The MSI GP66 Leopard with Intel i7-11800H and RTX 3070 provides top tier gaming performance at the $1899 price point. It topped out my chart in CPU game performance, and it nearly topped out my chart in GPU performance as well. However, there are a lot of cons to this laptop as well. I do my best to explain them in this detailed review of the MSI GP66 Leopard.

Hey Brandon, got my GP66 11th gen RTX3070 thank you so much for your review and recommendation. This is a BEAST out of the box the GPU is rated to 135 watts benchmark score 11 552 Timespy with GPU 11 757 and CPU 10 516 STOCK out of the box with NO UnderVolting - The GP66 performance is INSANE!

Damn bro I got the same laptop. Your benchmark results are astonishing. Rtx 3060ti(DESKTOP) reaches 11500-12000 in stock. Consequently, gp66 performs in some cases better than rtx 3060ti

But there is a lot of people like me, who are looking for advises or best laptops for this specific use... Hello everyone, I am aware that i am incredibly late to this video but maybe someone sees this: is there a reason that the née Alienware models like the m15 r5 are never seen in the top spots when comparing performances between laptops? Like the Area 51 with the 2080 super is always on top but the new ones like the r5 are not to be seen. Are they simply worse because of lower TDP or is there just not enough benchmark info available

Do you have any plans to check out the 11th gen intel cpu MSI GE66 Raider? I'm curious to see if it has better cooling/heatpipes for the cpu than the GP66 Leopard. Looks to be same chassis just more expensive with rgb lightstrip, a 1440p 240hz screen, and more memory. The GP66 leopard is what i'd prefer for the1080p screen and lower cost, but i haven't had any luck finding a website that will sell me a GP66 Leopard with 32gb of memory and i'm pretty sure i'd break something if i tried to take the bottom off myself

@ok had to warranty it because that model had an issue with certain games where it would completely drain the battery while plugged into the wall. At the time msi knew about the problem, but had no solution. I have had ROG since and no issues.

Hey there, with Timespy results is there any chance you can include combined score, graphics score is all well and good but in CPU bound games the combined score is a bit more useful. Plus some lapops are hugely hindered by bad CPU throttling.

I have it for about 5 days now and I can say that temps are around 85c CPU and under 80C GPU,2055mhz boostclocks by HWmonitor, all core 4.3-4.6ghz, -50mV undervolt via bios, bf5 solid 180FPS on max latency settings, what can I say its a true beast and my unit seems to have almost no backlight bleed, I'm also going to be pairing it with 240Hz monitor, for $2000 including taxes its really no brainer. 11800h looks like nothing Ive seen before 8750h 9750h 10750h owner and they all run 90c+ with -120mV and edited power. idk, but I'm quite impressed with my unit so far

I bought the i7 10th gen version of this laptop in February, I’ve got to say that it still slaps really hard. My friend owns a 2070 super PC and I was competing with him when it came to test results. So even if anyone can’t get this new 11th gen version, the 10th gen one is still super good. Also I’ve been playing Fortnite tournaments and Warzone ones too, it’s super smooth. Yes the 11th gen one has a better monitor but the 10th gen is still worth it in my opinion. 😃

Yep most importantly the 10th gen on sale or buying used can go for cheap... and still have a banging gpu... While the 11th gen will command a premium price for some time to come..

Thoughts on MSI Leopard GP76-11UG vs. ASUS Scar G733QR? Where I live, they have nearly identical pricing at around $2k USD. MSI ➜ i7-11800H / RTX 3070 (125-135W) / 17.3" FHD, IPS@240Hz 3ms, 72% NTSC. ASUS ➜ Ryz-5900HX / RTX 3070 (115-130W) / 17.3" FHD, IPS@300Hz 3ms, 300nits LED. On paper the MSI, which is the big brother of the laptop in this video, is slightly superior because of the i7-11800H and higher TPD on the RTX 3070. But I believe the chassis of the ASUS Scar is superior and it comes with metal cooling on its Ryz-5900HX. In terms of MUX I don't know if either one has it. Since you have both laptops (?) what's your opinion on which one you'd go with? Many thanks!

You said it is good for warzone but the cpu will be getting to hot? Getting that hot seems risky? When do you need to worry about the cpus temp? Is my main worry. I have a GF65 1660 ti I5. Lookin to upgrade. Is the issue only a worry when at extream performance?

what is the version of HDMI, is it 2.0 or 2.1? because I am planning to buy a 360hz monitor which requires an HDMI v2.1 in order to get 360hz and If it is 2.0 will go with a 240hz monitor.

Mine also throttles almost instant to 95 managed to get it a bit better with undervolting, ive seen other tests not throttling at all being arround mid 80s holding the 4,2ghz the whole test? should i be concerned and send it back? Games are running fine thought

I got MSI GP76 less than a week ago, and the temps are extremely good. The CPU is 66-78 max in games, and the GPU usually stays in the 50-60 range. Best thing I ever bought. Also, if you need this laptop for work I should mention that during shader compilation in Unreal Engine when the CPU is loaded for 100% for 10-15 minutes, the temps can go up to 90-93, but if these temps are critical for you, in bios, you can specify at what temperature you want your CPU to start throttle, by default it is set to 95. In terms of performance, it is a beast, especially with a 240Hz screen you'll have an absolutely different gameplay experience. But I noticed that even specs say that I have 140W GPU, but I didn't manage to hit that value. In all games, it is usually at 125W, and in benchmarks, it can go up to 132. @GizmoSlipTech have you figured what causing this?

You sure you can set the throttle temp in BIOS on the laptop?

@@valour549 yeah. It is in advanced bios mode. Hit left ALT + right CTRL + right SHIFT + f2 combination to access it. As far as I remember it is in section called "temperature" or something like that, don't remember the exact name. Just look for 95C and you'll find it. Also, a little below make sure you are enable this feature.

Don't run your games at crazy high framerates. Like if you are in valorant or something getting 300fps then cap it to whatever the monitors max refresh rate is to low cpu load and temperatures.

I would say it depends on where you live and how much the machines cost. The GP66 doesn't have QHD only the GE66. The GE66 is quite expensive here in the US and the price is unknown for the Legion 7 here.

Temperature won't be a problem to throttling if you buy a good thermal grizzly, somenthing about 10~15 W/mk. My OMEN 17 was at 90°C (both GPU and CPU), now it's 70°C.

Hey great review. One thing I want to add is that I have an Intel 11th Gen MSI GE76 with an Nvidia 3080 and I also cannot install Nvidia drivers. I get the same message you got. However I owned an Intel 10th gen GE66 and I was able to install Nvidia drivers with no issues. I think this is isolated to the 11th gen version of the GE series. BTW MSI Hybrid mode is MSI's implementation of Optimus. Because they use a modified version of Nvidia's drivers they added the feature to their MSI Center software. Go figure!
