MSI GS66 Stealth Review (2020 Intel 10th Gen) 

A couple of things that would've been nice to mention: 1.There's 100% an issue that is making the cpu pull quite some power at idle and during light tasks that should not happen. Of course, display's power consumption is higher than standard 1080p 15.6" displays but i still don't know which component is drawing this much power and that is making the whole laptop draw ~15w (99Whr/15W ~ 6.6 hours - what you're getting) during those light tasks when in reality it should've been

My experience with MSI is that their warranty repair turn around time is unacceptable. They are quoting me between 2 to 6 weeks, not including shipping time.

I have this laptop. I am used to MBPs and was really surprised by this machine's sleekness and solidness. The only gripe I have is the bottom lid is a little tough to take off. I only use it for gaming, but had to put in a giant SSD. I still use a MBP for general purpose work.

Premium look? Yes. Rigid build? Absolutely not. It’s not unibody, which reduces the manufacture cost, but also make it flexible. Any the plastic bar on my GS66 has a gap between the magnesium part. And although Nahimic3⃣️ has a lot of functions, the software itself always crashes on mine. Despite these problems, it is still worth buying. The undervolting function needs to be turned on in bios advanced setting.

The CPU fans on the GS65 are known to begin screeching for a few thousand users, and there was a design flaw that deforms the keyboard ribbon (causing issues with the fn, windows, and enter keys) which afflicted almost a few TENS of thousands of users. Any signs of those issues on the GS66?

If one isn't strictly interested in gaming for the same price and similar spect the new HP Envy 15 comes in at the same price at the top end with a 4k touch oled display. I'm conflicted between the two

The issue with Throttle Stop et al not working is due to BIOS update for Intel PlunderVolt exploit. You can no longer vary the voltages. So even if you use Throttle Stop to adjust nothing will actually happen. If there is an older version of the BIOS then I would suggest sticking to that. Beware Windows Update though as manufacturers like Asus are pushing the BIOS update out that way now. For my Asus Scar lll I don't go past version 3.07 but have had to flash back a few times due to annoying Windows Updates that don't stipulate it contains the BIOS update. I have an very good undervolt on my 9750h which means it never goes over 80'C, a big improvement I do not want to be without.

I see that you can charge it with the USB-C port as well. This makes it a good PC for people on the go. Are there any other competitors in this category (USB-C PD charging, 99Wh battery, good build quality)?

I bought this laptop 6core with 2070 n upgraded the ram to 32 2933 and I already made 3times my money back on videos. I got it in Jan 2021

Mine broke after downgrading firmware to last month now I gotta send it back to msi for repairs. Corrupted recovery too.

Why don't laptop manufacturers keep the Home and End keys together? It makes no sense. It makes you stop and look for the right keys when it should be intuitive, i.e. next to each other.

Which is better option... Alienware M15 R3 or MSI GS66

I prefer the previous design, aesthetically speaking. It was unique and had a little style, a little flavor. This looks super dull and boring to me, like a Dell Latitude, except uglier.

Is it as good as alienware area 51. I don't like the keyboard the gl65 has a better buttons but bad guts.

repasting in not an issue. it is an advamced procedure. but removing the fans for regular cleaning without removing heatsinks, and of course, ram and ssd ulgrade without removing whole mother board, is a must. anything else and i would fire my designers for ever, banning them to work again anywhere.-

The Acer triton 500 is $400 less with same specs.... but this one does look better....... so hard to choose!
