I bought this laptop at that price due to an Amazon error (bug) in Mexico for around 440 USD, and I believe that in this case, I can't really complain if it doesn't meet my expectations. LOL
Thanks for taking the time to put up a review on the Katana 15 - you're absolutely correct that there's hardly anything out there on this particular machine. I ended up going for even a more budget option, the Cyborg 15 - only because it was pretty much the same price as the Steam Deck OLED or the ASUS Ally and it was the right choice for me - I love the laptop. Thanks for taking the time to post on the Katana - I'm a big fan of MSI now because they make good gaming laptops that do the job for "the rest of us". I'll never pay $3,000 just to play games - that's insane.
Got mine for $549.99 I can send proof of my receipt but i definitely knew it was a majoooor bug from my local base Navy Exchange 😭. Am I complaining? Absolutely not. Best money spent .
4:27 it's not throttle bro, it's your settings. It will automatically go for 60hz if you disconnect the AC Adapter, you must set your settings to 144hz when it's unplug.
That's a good observation there, but if I do turn up the settings then my computer is only gonna last like 1-2 hours unplugged depending on the game I'm playing. Idk if that trade off is worth it lmao
"I've got another laptop for work, just a basic macbook pro, and it's speakers blow this out of the water." My brother a macbook pro is an expensive laptop, even for the lowest tier model...
If you don’t like the display then just buy one to plug it into. A better display than what this laptop comes with isn’t cheap. For what the laptop is worth it’s not bad
Strangely enough, the Microcenter model has a 2560x1440 165hz panel, and it looks quite good too. It's the US430 model, but MSI lists it as having a 1920x1080 screen.
To add, I have a GP850 and AW ultrawide on my desktop and I'm still happy with the laptop screen, unfortunately I don't have the tools to test it, but everything looks good.
Thanks for the review and honest points. I don't need a gaming laptop; just a decent one that won't have performance issues for my work. If it's going to be a gaming laptop, that's fine.
I appreciate your review. I am in the process of purchasing this very Katana myself, and previously had a GL65. During that time I had it, it mostly sat on my home office desk, with my gaming headphones, attached to an external monitor, and always plugged in. So why did I get it? Because I travel a lot. And it's also good for doing impromptu meetings away from my desk. It's just the convenience of being able to be mobile that matters more to me.
i wanna know if this pc can charge over usb-c (not while gaming ofc) my last my said it could.. but no.. it could just hold its battery lvl... not charge
@@DupeTubeTeam you must have a usb c charger with 65 w or more. And the laptop needs to get more battery % with it conected (and the normal charger not plugged in)
I bought the Katana 15 b12vgk ( i7-4070) at sale a couple of days ago, i'm going to up the ram from 16 to 32Gb ( a lot of heavy-modded games), maybe install a 2Tb storage, but I think i'm going to put an old 2Tb ssd in an external case. Slapped one of my W11 Pro licenses in it and been testing some benchmarks, I think this laptop is going to serve me just fine when i'm off to my cabin during the weekends. Btw, regarding temps i've lifted the back from the table 25mm to let it breathe and limited the fps to 75 using Nvidia control panel and yes, power adapter is needed :D
Thanks, this is the only review video I found on this laptop for some reason. Based on what you said, I'm gonna pass on this one. I'm a student so I move around a lot and thus build quality is pretty important to me. The display too as I'll only be using the laptop's display
Hey DupeTube, thanks for the review. What can you say about durability of this? Torned between this and Legion 5 (2023) Ryzen 7 7840H RTX4060. Thoughts? Thanks 🙂
Can you help to decide which laptop is better for interior design, HP Omen or MSI Katana? * HP Omen: Intel Core i7-14700HX (14th Gen), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (8 GB) * MSI Katana: AMD Ryzen 9-8945HS, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (8 GB) I use 3D max, Corona render, autocad, adobe programs .
Would you reccomend it for video editing really wanna take my actual pc gameplay clips and use the laptop as more as a video editing device with some entertainment downloaded of course with just a few games
Thanks for the insights, your review tells a lot that other reviews doesn't. I'm a beginner game developer mainly using Unity and Blender. Is this laptop suitable for these applications?
4:00 bro you do realize you can adjust performance its very easy to have the laptop run the same plugged and unplugged. That is just a settign tweak not a laptop critique
@@johnbeaton1076okay bro. It’s in the Msi centre app. There is are options to save battery whilst having it unplugged. This is done by using less of the graphics card, as it requires a lot of power of course. It’s any good for gaming in this setting, but it’s good for business work or watching a video
i want to buy a laptop for like animation purposes and i got into two laptops, msi katana 15 (i9 13900h) or msi sword 16 hx (i7 14700hx) which one should i buy in your opinion?
@@jonkeren Runs excellently on Diablo IV, Cyberpunk, Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, Horizon Dawn Zero (what I've tested thus far) all highest settings or near high and at 60 fps plus even with ray tracing! But please note I use this laptop as a PC meaning I plug it into an external monitor, keyboard & mouse etc.
@@julzmusic8708 I haven't played TS3 in a while but it's notoriously hard to play on most computers, it's very laggy and loading screens take forever. I think people have made fixes, mods and youtube videos on how to improve the performance of the game though
@@CYBER_N0T haha thank you for replying, I still did actually end up buying the Katana 15 - 4050. I heard that I’ll need to go through some Alder Lake patch to play TS3 but that would be the case on any newer laptop. And I never doubt how buggy that game would be haha, thanks for responding xx
@@Jermain_mc I'm planning to also buy MSI Katana 15 with i7-13620H, 16 RAM, 1TB, and RTX 4060 with 8GB VRAM. Will that be enough for editing videos and images even after many years like 4 to 5?
@@Komi_Is_My_Name My MSI Katana 15 has an i9 and a RTX 4070, with 16 RAM and 1 TB storage space for £1,300. But the i7 and RTX 4060 should be good enough, and that includes gaming. If I was you though, I would try to go for the RTX 4070 if you can. I got my laptop from Curry's PC World, but someone might be selling it for a cheaper price on Amazon or eBay. Make sure the laptop is brand new when you buy it though, as previous owners could have damaged something👍
Definitely not, if you only wanna play league of legends go for something much cheaper than this. It's a pretty powerful machine, it's like using flamethrower to light up your cigarette.
Ryzen runs cooler, I went from i7 13700hx to Ryzen 7 7840HS. The Ryzen runs 40-50 degrees celsius and battery life is MUCH better. While the i7 did run 70-80 celsius with a ridiculously short battery life.
@@VonDutchNL Haven't bought one yet. Waiting for the victus to come back in stock since it looks better and has a better build quality. It also has 32 gb of ram
Hello, please help, which one do you think its better, Katana 4050 (16gb and i7) or Cyborg 4060 (8g and i7, these are the only differences between the 2) cyborg is a little more expensive, and considering i have to add ram and a mouse..but people say 4050 is inferior to 4060
So we haven't actually looked at the cyborg 4060 So we can't say definitively. But just looking at the stats I would think the lower amount of ram is a big draw back even with the 4060. If you're able to upgrade that then it would be worth it assuming you get a decent amount of storage space ( shoot for 1 tb rather than 500 gb)
Can you help me I’m trying to find a gaming laptop so they can be with me when I’m on the move and not with my PC what do you recommend and I’m looking to spend like 1000
