This is Garry’s fourth #MSRHubbaTour2 tent after the last three leaked! And yes, so does this one! In a bid to have a tent that’s fit for purpose, Garry sealed the seams with seam sealer! And with a wet day forecast, he's put the tent up in his garden. Read more www.garrymcgiv...

I just got one of the newer ones. Hopefully it doesn’t leak. I had the original hubba hubba for 15 years. It was a gift from my grandfather when I joined scouts and lasted me until I lost pieces in college. I took the risk, because I loved how durable my last one was. Will update.

Based on the same previous issues you highlighted Garry I went for a Vango Cairngorm. All our main camping tents have been vango. Never had an issue.

Trouble is I like the layout so much, which is why it’s so disappointing that it doesn’t work! I have a couple of Hilleberg tents which are brilliant, I’m just not keen on their layout!

Have to agree Garry. The porch space is a bit limited on the Cairngorm.

I feel you pain. MSR Hubba Hubba, stored dry used only a handful of times as second tent. Went to put it up recently and all the waterproofing had flaked off. MSR not interested so tried aftermarket products. Sad to say after a cool wash to remove the old sticky coating then a coat of fabsil Grangers gold on inside, Geargauard seam sealer on seams and Nikwax Tent and solar proof on the outside (a considerable sum of money spent)....... The dam thing still leaks like it has no treatment at all. Time to cut my losses I think!

Unfortunately, it’s not the first time I’ve heard this. I don’t know how MSR got this tent so wrong. I hope your other tent keeps you dry.

Having suffered the misery of a (very expensive) leaking tent whilst touring Ireland many years ago I can only sympathise Garry. These days I stick to durable tents from well-known British manufacturers and just accept the extra kilo of weight.

@@travelsonabike2 Hi Garry. My 2 man tent is actually an ancient one which I bought in the early 1990s. It was made by a company called Hawkers IRC and marketed under the "Lichfield" brand. I don't think they're still around but the tent is still gong strong. My other tent is a Wild Country Zepheros 1 which is tiny but I only use that one for quick over-nighters. Wild Country is part of Tera Nova. It's basically their more affordable range. The other British manufacturer which comes to mind is Vango. They have an excellent reputation. HTH

I've recently bought a tour 1 having experience of the Mutha Hubba. The Mutha Hubba performed really well in wet and windy outer hebrides last year. I really hope the tour 1 is going to perform well but your reviews are making me wonder if I made a good choice. The layout for bike touring is excellent, but useless if it's not waterproof.

I had the same problem with an MSR Elixir 3 last week, half of the tent was completely wet, in just 3 hours of rain.. And the more incredible is to see that our 60 Euros tent from Decathlon was completely dry !! I really don't understand wy I paid 400 euros for this pore quality ....!!

Your original video was a major part of why I decided not to buy a Hubba Tour. I’ve bought a Robens Verdin for this year, but haven’t been out in it yet or tested it in the wet. Perhaps today is a good opportunity.

I’ve slept in it for the last five days. It’s a good quality tent - well put together. FWIW, it has its own issues (probably why it was in production for just one year). Very lightweight, that was achieved with fabric with a HH of just 2,000mm on the fly - and if you touch the fabric when wet, it seems to wick through. Plus there’s the whole tunnel tent condensation issue (certainly in the current chilly overnight weather, anyway). The other big compromise is the size - just too low for me to sit up in (I’m short, but with a long torso), and it’s VERY low at the foot end (so much so that one night my quilt was damp - not sure whether it was condensation wicking from inside the flysheet or some other issue). On the plus side, it has an excellent sized porch, seems very sturdy, and because it's made from silpoly, it doesn’t stretch when wet. Overall I’m happy to use it for up to a week on my own, but an extra 700grams or so would buy a tent with better headroom and more height at the foot end. If I can persuade the other half to try cycle camping/touring, we'd probably go for something like the Naturehike Oppalus 3. Because I’ll only be able to get away with buying another tent if it’s very, very cheap :)

when i first used mine, i noticed it was bad with condensation and after it rained, it seemed to stay wet for a long time. yet when i used my msr hubba nx the year after. that tent was brilliant.

@roberthardy3090

Just had mine out in quite heavy rain for the last two nights, a handful of drips from the stitching that holds the frame cross member, but that did seem to self seal, otherwise no other water penetration. I notice that the fly is taped, so have MSR modified the later tents? There is however fairly extensive condensation, and that does bridge the fly/ inner tent gap, the separation is limited, it used to be an issue on my original wild country quasar. In driving rain I might expect some misting of condensation through the tent and penetration of the zips, the storm flaps are small and strong wind would blow water up under them. My own view of the level of condensation is that it was nothing that I couldn't accept and be happy wiping up with a light weight small camping towel, but it was only myself and a labrador dog in the tent, with another sleeping adult the problem might be more inconvenient.
@travelsonabike2

@alexmorgan3435 4 года назад
This doesn't look good does it? Will you still use the tent? A tent that you can only use when it's dry is pretty useless. You don't want a wet sleeping bag. Pretty bad on MSR's part that they can't make a waterproof tent. Will it be back to using your Hilleberg?
@travelsonabike2
@travelsonabike2 4 года назад
It really doesn’t! Knowing me, I probably will! The layout just suits my needs so much, although like you say, if it doesn’t keep you dry it’s pretty useless! As I said I don’t know what MSR are thinking, I had an MSR Velo, which was brilliant. The only reason I stopped using it was that it just wore out!

@@travelsonabike2 I have a couple of MSR tents but not the Tour, they have had light use but never noticed any leaks as yet. I am worried. I bought one of their Windburner stoves and new out of the box it refuses to light. The first one I had was brilliant but unfortunately that was pinched. I think MSR quality is pretty hit and miss given they are supposed to be a premium brand.
@travelsonabike2
@travelsonabike2 4 года назад
I think they’ve lost the plot and are more interested in profit these days! As I said, my old MSR Velo lasted for over 10 years and I never had a problem! My MSR Windpro cooker has been going strong since the early 2000’s. They use to be a brand to trust, I’m not so sure these days, and as for customer service! Best we don’t go there!
