Just over 2 years ago I gazed over to the face of Mt Barney from the Yellow Pinch Lookout with my father (in his early 80s) and marvelled at the ruggedness and challenge of this incredible mountain. I remember saying to my father that I didn't think I would ever be able to climb it, it was just too big and imposing. Since that time, particularly the past 8 months, I have worked on my fitness, lost weight, and what I thought was impossible 2 years ago, became a reality in June 2023 - climbing Mt Barney (SE Ridge). On this hike I revisit Yellow Pinch Lookout after 2 years and reflect on the journey so far, my affair with Mt Barney, a mountain I now visit regularly and can't get enough of. I climb SE Ridge again (up to the Razorback), down via Old SE Ridge (checking this out for the first time), and up to the beautiful Cronan Creek Falls. 16.2km total. This hike was about reflecting, and appreciating the diversity and beauty of Mt Barney, along with testing out my new Osprey 85L pack. I include a few stunning photos at the end, mostly from the region, taken with my Nikon Z6II camera.
