A return trip to the eastern side of Mt Lindesay.
Spring 2022 #5 - Collins gap - Rabbit fence to S/E shoulder - Ascent to S/E shoulder - Traverse to N/E shoulder - Return.
Distance : Probably 11 km return.
Walking conditions : The Border and rabbit fences, footpads, and subtropical rainforest walking.
Notes : A visit to the walls of the huge block shaped peak of Mt Lindesay. The ridge climb is the most commonly used route, as it leads to the 100 metre high rock climb to the summit. I'll leave that to the experts. In this visit, I reached the S/E and N/E shoulders, traversing beneath Vidlers chimney (there is one quick shot of it - 8:50), and returned by practically the same route. I didn't visit the grave site.
It is possible to circumnavigate the summit block, but from where I got to (N/E Shoulder), further progress in an anticlockwise direction is only possible by first traversing the lower grass slopes. The first gully encountered up higher is absolutely vertical. Beyond that, passage is possible along the grassy shelves below the north face.
In a place like this, Birds-nest ferns can grow on rocks at ground level. Normally, these epiphytes grow on the trunks and branches of trees. Their upward pointing leaf structure gathers cloud moisture which funnels down into the centre of the plant. Nutrients are collected in a similar way from leaf debris, as their roots do not reach into the ground. Mt Lindesay is often shrouded in cloud, and is very rocky, so the plants will grow just about anywhere.
