Mt Barney SE Ridge Track out and back (3rd attempt success - a summit of emotions)

Many years ago I gazed across at the face of Mt Barney from the Yellowpinch lookout on a hike with my father (in his 70s). I recall looking at this monster of a mountain and saying to my father that climbing Mt Barney would be too much for me, an impossibility, it was so imposing. Not long ago I set a goal to lose weight, get fit and hiking has been a big part of this. I eventually set my sights on climbing this monster of a mountain. It was an emotional experience on the summit after being congratulated by a group of strangers that encouraged me and invited me to tag along with them. 3rd attempt success. It was brutal and incredible.

You might like the other video I posted a few days ago of Barney from last Saturday. Up SE Ridge down South Ridge. Was a great day, video footage is very clear.

Congratulations mate, a great effort! Saw your previous vid from a few weeks ago when the weather got the better of you. What a lovely group of fellow climbers as well. Saw about the 26min mark that someone mentions the Upper Portals. You've got a 4wd which will get you to the trail head with ease - I did it in a Subaru Forester recently and the road from Waterfall Creek is quite smooth and in good condition. If you want a more challenging walk, look up Montserrat Lookout, which you can add on. Both are easily achievable in 1/2 a day to a day max.

Thank you, I'll check it out. I've been to the road that goes to Upper portals, went there to do Mt May hike earlier this year.

Well done Dallas. Having recently climbed Mt Barney for the first time I know this hike is no joke and vids don't do it justice. So proud of you having the physical and mental stamina to complete what once you thought impossible, and that's some well earned emotion at 23.05. Big love to all the fellow hikers who're quick lend a hand. BTW, in your more recent vid you scrambled up the slab like a gecko! Was that because of new shoes?

Thanks for the kind words. I had new shoes La Sportiva TX4 which made the rock slab easier but also I worked out a better way to go up it, walk in zig zag based on the natural ledges. My friend Peter showed me how.
