Many years ago I gazed across at the face of Mt Barney from the Yellowpinch lookout on a hike with my father (in his 70s). I recall looking at this monster of a mountain and saying to my father that climbing Mt Barney would be too much for me, an impossibility, it was so imposing. Not long ago I set a goal to lose weight, get fit and hiking has been a big part of this. I eventually set my sights on climbing this monster of a mountain. It was an emotional experience on the summit after being congratulated by a group of strangers that encouraged me and invited me to tag along with them. 3rd attempt success. It was brutal and incredible.
