Great work...did the same thing to my Aprilia Futura's "bread box" years ago . Going to do the same to my 3week old Tracer but going to cut off half of the "bread box" like l did on the Futura and it worked great.
The first time I did this I made the box 60mm narrower, made for a bit of extra work though. this time I didn’t bother. just got my 3rd MT09 last week and will be doing it again but this time I’ll cut the bottom off as it makes life a whole lot easier for doing the exit pipe as you can bolt the exhaust back on to line it up. Tip... the 50mm header pipe continues into the box about 50mm. If you cut carefully around where it enters the box, just passed the weld, you can pull it out before cutting it off, gives you a bit more to play with 👍🏻
I do this the same with my exhaust. Is many work, 8-10h for make good job. At low revs around 87-89db, at 5k revs around 99-101db. Over 85km/h and if not accelerate you hear almost only wind. The most noise while riding is at 2-4k revs, big bass. Before I had good full replica real carbon Akrapovic but it was 8-10db louder. I also tryied moded it for reduce noise but nothing helped. For me was too loud for daily use. Than after 500km, yes I only recommend mod oem exhaust.
well done man,I did similar to a cb650f I had a few years ago,it produced a great exhaust note and to all and sundry appears to be a stock muffler, until you open it up ,love it ,stay safe enjoy your bike , cheers 🍻 Robbie Renalson Devonport Tassie
no remap, no negative effects on the engine, just a healthy 5bhp increase for very little money. did the same to my 1st MT09, rode it for 18k miles and no issues, current MT09 is on 7k miles, again no issues.
it's not too loud, just sounds great, mate has an Akra without the DB killer and that's much louder than mine. there's about 250mm of baffling in the main box that keeps the noise level a bit lower but it's basically a 50mm straight through pipe... do it :)
as far as I can tell there's no negative effect on performance, the exhaust makes it "sound" faster anyway, and the mod gives 4.5bhp increase for very little money
DAVID RESPECT I did almost the exact same mod on my MT09 and ran it on a dyno, theres a video, the only difference being I made the silencer box smaller but internally it was the same. as for weight, couldn’t tell you exactly how much was saved, I was more interested in making noise and power 😁
Can you tell me the diameter from pipes? because I want to do the same on my tracer 900 and one more question who many hp you take and take you on duno?
Γιάννης Βαλβης stock is about 52mm O/D but I used 50mm as it fit the exit pipe shroud perfectly. dyno’d it with stock exhaust then the modified exhaust (on the same day) and got a 4.7bhp gain
