Great video, very thorough explanations. One thing I might add myself is using a torque wrench whenever it's required, as it's the safest way to tighten certain bolts making sure you avoid damaging your components/frame
I know this is an old video but if you have a problem with bolts coming loose when using regular loctite, try the Loctite Tape. It applies like pipe tape/teflon tape. Holds way better, doesn't harden or break apart from vibration.
Came across this video because I had this really irritating noise coming from the rear. Took it to the bike shop and they thought it might be a small rock in the disc break and that it would work itself out. Really didn’t think it was from the break. Watched your video and you brought up the presta valve! BOOM that is what it was!!! Tightened it up and noise gone. Thanks so much for the idea!
Thanks for sharing your bike knowledge with us in such a concise easy-to-understand Style. Your explanation of how to index the derailleur was perfect! .. I've always had a little trouble with that but now my gears are dialed thanks man!
Having just bought my wife and I bikes since our young kids are gravitating to the sport it scares me to think of what the next video is. I thought the basic video would be wash it off, degrease the chain, grease the chain. At this point in the video I just cranked myself. I either need to learn how to do this ASAP or my mechanic bills are gonna be outta control. Thank u so much!!!
Well thought out and great for a beginner .. nice one. Quick tip on brakes .. it’s no longer to just top up a Shimano system BUT if you do then beware of going all the way through pads (and bleeding is something EVERYONE should be able do... especially people who are busy as who has the time to take the bike to a shop when you could be riding? ) .. the other thing is when you do fit new pads you’ll need to let out some fluid... Switching cables is also a cheap way to get/keep a new bike feel... a new inner takes 2 mins on top of indexing and flushing the outer with WD40 or better still a Teflon spray will get the crap out.. the genuine optislick (Shimano) is great but expensive.. I just buy cheaper Teflon inners and 10 go reasonably quickly with droppers and 1x across a few bikes... outer I buy jagwire in 10m lengths as it’s way cheaper .. you only need to cut what you use.. If the frame linkage keeps working free it’s worth checking bearings and bushes... (but some frames it just happens anyway... non of mine but apparently a known thing on a Foxy. ) Washing ... If it’s really filthy I usually start upside down (on grass to protect the controls) otherwise it all runs down later...then put it the right way up once the crud under the saddle and downtube is gone.
Very excellent! I learned a lot. Your music could be quieter and have more variety, but that's a minor point. Thank you! me and my (older) mt bike are grateful!
if you are careful and don't use the harsh water blade, it won't do any harm ofcourse. But the risk of washing out some grease is higher than with a normal hose :)
Good day Tom! I wish i could have a bike like yours. That's so nice. Mine is an old model of Giant. I have not even upgraded all its parts. Keep it up!
Tom i just subscribed and just started MTB Thank you for the tips. I'm a sound engineer one tip for you is to level your music with your vocals Geez that music is LOUD
A great bloke who don’t waste money on crap to clean his bike,I washed push bikes cars and motorbikes for yrs and yrs with fairy liquid, good on ya , Shane uk 🇬🇧
Thanks a lot for the run-thru. I knew most of it but some bits were still new so I've learned something. Need to stop being lazy and get into a routine of cleaning the bike and doing the maintenance.
I sometimes have to go to a “do it yourself” car wash where you have to use pressure washers. But I don’t pull the trigger for the full pressure, I just use it’s base pressure which doesn’t even hurt my hand from upclose
Finally, a like minded Pro! Never used anything other than washing up liquid, a sponge, a toothbrush and the dustpan brush, with a bucket of warm water! Air dry it (and some kitchen towel) and spray WD40 (or other oil) on it - just not the brakes! Just seen though, 3 years ago! Good ole RU-vid recommendations!
Just bought my first bike since I was in my teens, I’m now 30. Went for a ORBEA Onna 29 50, not had chance to go out on it properly yet so thought I’d check what I needed to do to keep it in top condition, never realised how much I’d need to be doing 😂 this is a great video, but I’m so worried of causing damage just doing the simplest of maintenance 😆
I´m really bad at indexing gears and I just recently found out you could adjust them at the shifter. Felt like a genius. And really stupid at the same time :D
There is an art to wheel truing.. back in 95 i grabbed my first spoke wrench and had at it.. learned thru trial and error.. soon i was truing my buddies wheels for them. Its not really rocket science but if you've got reservations maybe get a pro to school you on it. Hell just look it up on yt!!
tom man. you've got slx brakes man. all you have to do when you feel the lever get too squish, you adjust it at the lever point where you can adjust the throw.
I know this video since he posted it. Every time i see my bike muddy it reminds me of this video. And this video reminds me of how much money i need to invest in my bike🤧💀
