I can appreciate the e-bikes making their way into mountain biking but at the same time there isn't a better feeling then looking down at your speedometer and knowing that your legs are what's generating that power it seems like in certain complicated trails that you'd like would work really nicely but I myself still truly feel and believe that there's no better feeling than generating thatpower on your own

If anything, this video is actually a pretty good illustration of the differences between a regular MTB and an eMTB, and that difference really is not all that much other than it makes climbing easier/faster - which is kind of the whole point. These are ‘pedal assist’ bikes, not [independent throttle control] ’motorbikes’ - you only get assistance when you are actually pedalling. You can also decide exactly how much assistance you do get at a given point - so if you want more of a work-out, you can simply turn that assistance down, or even off! At the end of the day, this video was presumably trying to promote inclusion - but judging by a number of comments here, people who apparently have yet to actually ride an eMTB appear adamant to remain in their respective camp?

I have ridden plenty of them and done demo days but nothing convinced me it was a mountain bike. Just shared components but it was a very different experience and I don't want one. Simple as that. Ride what you want but I get fed up of it being rammed down our throats that they are the new must have. I also liked the channel because it was mountain biking and EMBN was for electric bikes . But now there is content on gmbn I just don't want. It has nothing to do with inclusion, it's about the fact that there are two channels for two separate things, I can't see EMBN having normal bikes on it. And as a mountain biker I prefer to see the mountain bike content on GMBN.as for staying in our respective camps, why shouldn't we? I have been riding MTB since I was 14 and I am now 50. The bikes are amazing now, I ride all the time and love it as much as ever so why change what makes me so happy.

I've ridden a few 7k plus Giant and Specialized ebikes and they're overweight plumpers that are nothing like a mountain bike. Nothing like a mountain bike. I dont care aboutbprice but these were solid examples. Carbon, nice spec etc... They are fat, sluggish and holding weight everywhere. Sorry they are nothing like a mountain bike they're more similar to a dirt bike that's been neutered. In my experience I have yet to meet many unfit dirtbike riders however. That's really asking for a situation.

In 2021, the Rotwild was blowing an analogue bicycle, rotwild rx375. 18 kg with a shimano ep8 85hm motor. it also has a small 360 battery, but it's easy to remove as well.

Turned 67 this year, and my Levo is perfect for me. My 32 pound Hardtail is still in the stable and I still love it as well. Just don’t get as much time on it these days.

Realistically, if what you like is going downhill, and the only reason to go uphill is so you can go down again, then an e-bike makes a lot of sense if you can afford it. Where I ride locally there are now loads of e-bikes for that very reason. Personally I prefer cross country and enjoy riding uphill more than down. I'll stick to my analog bike. That is, until I can't keep up to my son, then I might ask Santa to bring me one.

@irish kitty. I have an ebike. I ride with both ebikes and acoustic bikes. I change the support level depending on situation. I never run ahead acoustic bikes either. It is not written in any laws that everyone has to ride full power. Common courtesy is advised so that biking can be fun to everyone. I also agree that price is different. However, you know that hobbies are costly. Whatever makes you smile more, and for me it is ebikes for sure! :-)

I did downhill in my teens, but didn't really ride properly until lockdown, bought a Giant Trance E 2, allowed me to see so much more of the trails I never saw when pushing up. Started using turbo quite often, then got down to using eco almost all the time, as I never get a massive amount of time to get out it's still nice to have the assistance so I can climb faster to get back in time. Either way, it has reignited my love for bikes, buying an acoustic Trance soon, so I can get to BPW and use the uplift to get more runs in

I have a full understanding of how important an e-mtb is for people who have had serious injuries or health issues, it lets them keep riding and puts less stress on their body and gives them a new enjoyment level that keeps riding a valuable part of their life......I just have to pedal much harder to keep up with them.

Well a lot of people can ride like that and I enjoy it but I think we get fed up with ebikes forced on to us like we are dinosaurs. I freaking love these kind of videos! It's awesome to see you guys ride together while pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of both types of bikes! I love both my ebike and my "acoustic" bike for different types of rides. I'm 52 and I can ride my ebike up and down my local trail system all day, and still come home with battery life and enough energy to spend with the family. But my acoustic Stumpy rips my local jump line like it has wings, and because my trail riding didn't tax me to death at my age, I have the energy to send it over and over again! What I don't like is all the venom towards ebikes from some riders in the comments. They're all just bikes, people. Whether you ride a hardtail, DH, trail, Enduro, XC or an eMTB, they're all just bikes that shine at their designed type of riding. Knowledge is power, and GMBN, as well as EMBN, do a great job at showing us how to get the most out of whatever riding we choose to do. Like these guys in the video, JUST SEND IT AND HAVE FUN! 👍😎🚵🏻

Great video, and for the style of riding that's in fashion right now the electric bike is perfect! Plenty of downhill runs at your local forest and the motor to haul you back up the fireroads to hit the downs again.. a couple of hours of fun with your mates....and plenty of energy to go out to the pub later that day too!

My friend bought an e-bike. A group of us went on a long ride which had multiple uphill climbs. The e-bike smoked us. He was so far ahead of us he constantly had to wait. So get used to riding alone most of the ride.

I imagine that many younger people who buy E-MTBs end up riding them alone, or with other E-MTB's. I think E-bikes are great for disabled (or rehabbing) persons, or the less fit to enjoy riding with friends that easily outstrip them on normal bikes. I enjoy the challenge of pedaling, if my buddies bought e-bikes, I would probably not ride with them while they were on them. The discrepancy in speed would be too great.

@@vashusan1984 On an electric bike you can put on the lowest setting should be similar to a normal bike or turn it off if you want a harder workout than a standard bike. The great thing about ebikes is the flexibility.

For me ist not about Ebike vs bike. It’s more a geometry question. EBikes are made for speed, means longer wheel base. There is nothing wrong with it, but sometimes you just want to have a snappy bike. 😅

@@KTMrippa yes i absolutely love it. It's a good compromise between larger travel and shorter travel XC. I'm not adverse to emtb but I don't really need one and prefer the higher specification components at this price range rather than lower spec with a motor.

There's 3 main questions than are always failed to be addressed 1st what's the total ride time on e bike. 2nd what mode was use in what proportion of the ride time. 3rd what % of battery was used. Please 🙏 pass these questions on to Steve also, as when reviewing any E bike mountain, road, gravel. These are the fundamental questions all E bikers want to know. Thanks great videos.

Giant Trance X 3 27?5 2020 150/140- alu frame 15, 2 kg in my opinion e-bike limit your freedom of bike, and perfect power goes to 3 kg of lazy weight. Analog component, 27.5 wheels and Alu Frame is the best for adventure! Giant Maestro is the Perfect ! 29 for speed, 27,5 for Fun. I choose only Fun of riding!

I do think that e-bikes have a purpose. May be for people with some mild health problems, That could benefit from the electric power and have a better experience than none. Otherwise it's probably for average+ riders that can manage that power and really enjoy the benefits safely. If a novice gets his hands on one of those I really believe it's more dangerous. First power, then weight, price. Imagine some inexperienced rider to crash one of those expensive bikes. You can't give 100% when you are scared of damaging your tools. Build that confidence, build that knowledge, build the technique and then, if you wish, jump on the e-side.

400% help won't make you work the way you do on a MTB up those hills..I'll get one one day, through injury or age, but for my riding, i'd miss the satisfaction 0f self achievement of getting myself to the top, and long days out under my own power..And iI love the pureness of MTB.

Some people are describing eMTB as being a real sport and the unavoidable future of MTB. As being a trail (running I mean) runner myself as well, I wonder how people will react if the same approach was applied to this sport: like having shoes with electromagnet actuators or treadmills to bring you up on the hills. Maybe the same comments will pop up like “Ain’t cheating, I can run longer and access areas I was unable to reach before”. I hope I will stay on analog bikes as long as I can, while understanding my friends going on eMTB for fun, but most of them are not interested in sport performance or training. What is sad is that we nearly don’t ride together anymore…

I've ridden ebikes a few times. I get the appeal if you're out of shape, disabled, or if your only enjoyment in mtb is jumping and you don't care about anything inbetween. But they truly feel like mini dirtbikes, and that's just not what mtb is or trails are designed for.

Are E-Bikes contributing to the need for Governments to bring in Cycling licenses, Insurance, MOTs? How is an electric bike not an electric motorbike? Are they ironically not paving the way for less independence and more costs and legalities?

If I had 13k Euro to spare that Bike would definitely be on my list of things to get. It's like a hypersports E-Bike, my Orbea Occam is only like 2.5 KG lighter and has no e-power. But I'm also a bit oldschool and really don't like that everything is getting invaded by electronics these days.

It doesnt seem right seeing a e bike on gmbn also it seems mountain biking going with battery with the gears, shifter and suspension but doesnt batterys have a life cycle eventually.

Hi Lewis! E-bikes are gradually becoming more integrated into mainstream mountain biking, so giving e-bikes the odd feature on GMBN is great for representing every genre of MTB.

Bruh ur regular mtb is an e-bike with that e suspension. The pros in the 80s had no sus at all man now some full sus can be cool but any electronic parts and you might as well get into dirt bikes you’re cheating yourself enough as it is 😂

Watched two 40 somethings Sunday ride their E-MTBs past multiple 'closed for maintenance' signs at my local riding area carving ruts for the rest of us to cope with later. It isn't necessarily about the motor, it's about the lower cost (physical, not financial) of entry. I feel it leads to ignorance of trail etiquette. Not in every case, but often enough in my experience.
