This Mastercraft (MTD made) snow blower needed new auger belts. This version uses two narrow auger belts instead of one wide one. We have to separate the machine in two parts to get this done.
Mastercraft and Yardworks branded equipment is usually MTD made, and sold in Canadian Tire stores.

I'd just like to say here I stumbled across your channel looking for more information about the STX38 which I am inheriting from my late father. This past summer I learned how to take apart a carburetor by just taking it apart and cleaning it and putting it back together on my cub cadet. I enjoy watching your videos. You've given me more confidence to work on some of my small engines in my garage. Thanks for the content and keep doing what you're doing!

Good day from Waterloo Boy that was kinda easy fix for 1 blower. Other blower took longer. I found a MTD non-self propell with 5 hp. Have got any videos on that. I look but too many& was not sure. Thanks Merry Christmas & Happy New yr to u & yours especially being she brings meals out to u, can't beat that.

Hey Don. If its a single stage blower with the rubber paddles, you just tip the unit forward and the paddles pull the machine along. IF the paddles aren't worn out. Best of the holidays to you!

Good Video, However It Would be Good To See Exactly What You Are Doing.. Maybe A Go Pro Strapped To You Would Be Good. I Am Aa Mechanic And I Like Watching These Types Of Videos, I Live In Australia. We Don't Have Many Snow Blowers Here , Mainly Big One's At The Snow Fields.. I Find These Types Of Videos Relaxing In A Way, Even Though I Do Similar Stuff Working On Small Engines

Power steering?!! Do you have a video where you zoom in on and explain the pieces and parts and how something like that works?
@randomwrenching
@randomwrenching Год назад
I don't currently have a video on that. But it works like this... Both wheels are driven by the trans at the same speed. When you want to turn right, you pull the right hand steering lever, and the right side wheel unlocks from the drive shaft and freewheels. Because its not being driven any more, but the left wheel still is, it makes the blower curve to the right. Not really power steering like in a car, but it does actually work pretty well especially on larger 28-30" machines.

Nice that once in a while the repairs are pretty straightforward and more of a maintenance task, huh ?? Would you ever consider tackling the rust on a snow machine ? I've seen you paint mowers and decks but don't remember seeing a video of you painting on snow throwers. I don't know if it would even be preventable due to the salty environment as a lot of people use salt to melt ice. Just curious 🤔

I did paint one ratty looking MTD in the past. Snow blowers so cheap (IF they sell at all) and usually if they are really that rusty, the metal is just too thin to be worth the effort. I recently scrapped a good running 11hp Cub Cadet that was only 8 years old because the entire metal body was so far gone the engine was falling through the chassis. Saved the engine though....

Good day from Waterloo. Interesting video. So do u sleep in shop too. I seen coffee machine, dinner delivered. Yes it does look like a good machine. I seen your comment on power steering. So it is fairly reliable? Thanks

The people that live in my house (wife and daughter) take decent care of me with food delivery and such. They do think I live in the shop...lol. The power steering does work OK, but there are a couple things that go bad. On Husqvarna (AYP) designs, the gears that lock and unlock are sharp and square cut. They can get sticky unless you lube them up once in a while. I use a graphite spray for that because its dry and it stays where you put it. The MTD made machines typically will break a cable over time, or break the weak-ish control levers to actuate it. Honestly, on my personal Husqvarna, I don't use the system for steering, but if I pull both levers at the same time, the machine rolls super easy to back up instead of using the SLOW reverse gear.

Any time I see springs (belly pan in this case) rusting I automatically hit them with some light oil to slow that rust down.

Great Video Just about to work on same machine 1999 year I believe Left cable guess its auger is either broken orother issues no tension on handle Are you in Canada? Wondering what cable number is to purchase if required
@randomwrenching

I can't say off the top of my head, I use the machine model number to look up parts specifically for the machine I'm working on. Sometimes cables have the part number kind of faintly stamped onto them. Yes, in Canada. Southern Ontario

Looking for garden tractor mounted snowblower

There are usually some in the local classifieds. The problem would be making sure you're getting the correct mounts and brackets for your specific tractor...

I own a snowblower that is almost identical to this one, except mine is a 12HP with the same 30" size. Despite my machine's power, I noticed that it was not fully clearing my driveway, leaving behind a frustrating 1/2 inch layer of snow. After conducting some research, I tried adjusting the shoes on the snowblower, but it didn't improve the situation significantly. I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone could provide in resolving this issue. Thank you.

I think you may need to have a look at the scraper bar to make sure it is positioned properly, and not worn away.
@christiandeee6058
@christiandeee6058 Год назад
@@randomwrenching yea ok thanks I’ll definitely take a look at that but how do I really know if it’s considered bad?
@randomwrenching
@randomwrenching Год назад
@@christiandeee6058 With the skid shoes lifted up as high as they can go, that scraper bar would be digging into the pavement if it's not worn out. To adjust the shoes, I'll put a 1/8" spacer under the scraper bar, then loosen and adjust the skid shoes so they just touch the ground.
@christiandeee6058
@christiandeee6058 Год назад
@@randomwrenching when I lift the shoes as high as they can go the scraper bar definitely does touch the ground. I even attempted using the snowblower without the shoes all together and the snowblower still couldn’t pick up that 1/2 inch of snow left on my driveway. So I’m a little confused what I should be focusing on and even if my scraper really does or doesn’t need to be replaced
@randomwrenching
@randomwrenching Год назад
@@christiandeee6058 Adjusting the shoes as I described is the way it should be done. Your blower won't dig under or pick up any hard packed snow or ice. 2 stage snow blowers actually aren't supposed to scrape right down to bare pavement, but when they adjusted properly, will leave about 1/8" of snow.

What’s the belt sizes?
@randomwrenching
@randomwrenching Год назад
The belts change so often on different years and models it would be impossible to say for sure. Your best bet is to grab the model number on the white tag attached to your machine and look them up for your exact model number. I order OEM style replacement belts by machine model number, I don't know them by size.

What was the belt size for that snow blower o got the same one
@randomwrenching
@randomwrenching 8 месяцев назад
I cant say off the top of my head, that was a repair done long ago. Grab the model number off the white tag on your machine. MTD has a great website where you can look up part numbers once you enter your machine model number. That's exactly how I do it for machines that come in to my shop.
