Bro, Kaldheim reworked my Sliver Deck almost entirely. Spiteful Sliver now works as a kill opponent button with Hivelord in play, because Orvar the All-Form allows you to copy Spiteful Sliver multiple times
I play this deck often (one of my favs) and I have to say quick sliver is one of my focal points when playing. The ability to tutor then cast a sliver in response to something is extremely useful. There have been times when flashing in a shroud sliver or flying sliver has blow out opponents. Of course the 8 mana nut counter of tutor then play indestructible in response to a wrath has happened but usually my opponents know about it not to run into it. Seeing as this video was made in 2014 another support enchantment I've added to the deck which has helped A LOT is cryptolith rite. Acts as a third mana sliver though not as good it is still extremely useful. As a 5c deck bring to light is absurdly good value to get 95% of the sliver in your deck and possibly an instant you need. I've tutored for indestructible sliver many times with it.
The Vivid lands are another decent mana fix, for on the cheap. I usually find I'm in a more comfortable place mana wise by the time the 2nd counter is gone, if I even have to consider that at all.
I used to run all 5 Vivids in my sliver deck, but my mana base turned out to be good enough that the only things the vivids did above basics is enter tapped and sit there with counters on them.
RIP Ssliverin' Sstandard Sslivers.. Summer 2014 never forget [the time when Slivers were just barely viable for competitive play... :P] I guess the next best thing is EDH. I once heard tale of a daring soul, who when faced with a Sliver Hivelord, attempted to Draft a Sliver Deck in M15 Draft.. This cavalier individual made post of his Decklist on Reddit, and it was truly a sight to behold.. The Stars, Planets, and any and all Celestial Bodies required, all must have aligned perfectly, for his Drafted Sliver Deck was nothing but a sublime perfection.. One could even go so far as to say, that it was, "The Dream."
to anyone who discovers this video and is interested in slivers, please dont even think that the slivers need any special lands at all, my land base is almost exclusively basic lands, it has like 1 fetch that i happen to have, other than that theres an urborg, reliquary, command tower, and mana confluence... the rest of the lands are all basic and its hilariously consistent and i barely even draw into my urborg anyways lmao just make sure you balance your colour numbers right and youll never struggle to get your mana out :)
Professor I think is time for a total makeover of this deck :) I was lucky and I bought almost all the cards back but new cards (and slivers among them) appear and they might have a place to the deck :)
Guys, im a Brazilian player and i crafted this deck, played several times and it's working wonders deckstats.net/decks/61977/455973-commander-sliver-overlord of course, the base idea came from this Tolarian Community College video, using their thoughts on this particular commander i went and changed some cards for more synergy and tempo gain, i would like to have your comments on it and last but not least i want to thank the Tolarian Community College for this great video on this awesome tribal that is Slivers.
only at psionic sliver, but that + brood sliver+shifting sliver +megantic sliver=GG as brood says when ever a sliver deals damage to a player and psionic says "this creature deals 2 damage" and if you throw in one of the life link slivers or a virulent sliver (or both) you can basicly end the game instantly
Wouldn't reflecting pool also be a good option for the mana base? Also in slivers what is more important, mana fixing or mana ramping? Because I am thinking Mana Reflection may also be a good enchantment to include. Also would Opal Palace help in the mana base? Or the need to tap a colorless to use it as a filter land not worth it since if we aren't going voltron the other abilities of Opal Palace in not applicable.
Professor, I have a question. My friend and I just recently tested our commander decks on Untap to see if we should buy them. Unfortunately, my Slivers easily fell to his Blink deck. Why could this have happened? The possibilities I have guessed would be that 5 colors is really difficult to pull together, and that SLivers aren't meant for singleton formats. Whats your opinion on this?
+Sung Hong I'm not the prof, but I've had this deck for a few years. It is amazingly consistent, even with just basic lands. Just make sure you have tons of land, so that you can play your general and convert mana into slivers. Definitely the nastiest edh deck I own for 1v1.
Seems like a really great build. I'm considering getting this deck but was wondering, how well does this deck perform in larger groups considering you'll be one of the biggest targets?
You'll probably get fucked if everyone knows how threatening. Though if youre given enough time it'd be too late for anyone to do literally anything to you
It depends on your play group really. I play with a group of about 8 but usually 4 at any one time and most of their decks are heavy combo/ramp decks so people focus most of their attention on stopping each other. I play mine as a defensive build until I need it to smash everything just tutoring ''answer'' slivers until things have gone to far, that's when I bring out queen and start cranking out tokens till hibernation sliver gets me my mana echoes and have infinite slivers, mana, and play out everything till everyone is dead lol.
Personally, I'd say Morophon has taken the cake for best sliver commander, sure you can't tutor for slivers with him, but dumping your hand for practically free is better in my opinion.
+Richard Rominger Slivers are nasty. I occasionally pit my edh decks against each other, and whenever I randomly pair one with my slivers I basically consider it to be a boss fight. Sliver mid to endgame is overwhelmingly broken, since all your creatures are usually giant unblockable vampire nighthawks with shroud and double strike.
I'm not gonna bother running Sliver Queen unless I can get one for cheap. I can use The First Sliver with some tech choices to make it more reliable than Queen anyway.
Slivers was my first Commander deck. One thing I particularly enjoy about them is that they remind me of the alien franchise aliens. Sort of a fantasy version of those. On the other hand, they win so much that it's not that fun playing against them and these days I only play them against decks that all my other decks fail against. They are sort of my last resort deck. But they sure are fun to play with. Also: best wishes from Poland, Professor. I find both your voice and your manner of speaking soothing. Like a massage for my soul.
Me watching this trying to build a sliver commander deck: “Wow! Look at all those good commanders! I want all of them in a deck! I mean sure the commanders cost around $50 each but that is not so bad!” *Googles sliver queen for sale* “Ahhhhhhhh!”
It's not so bad....years ago i got the Japanese Sliver Queen for $40 USD these days it is just about the same price as the English one while back then the English one was around $100 USD so yeah till people caught on about buying different languages being cheaper i was lucky. These days it is actually about half the price of the English one so still a good deal
"fury sliver" no no no "Bonescythe Sliver" is the correct one for double strike enable it cost 2 less than fury "Victual sliver" wrong again "Darkheart Sliver" is the correct one it may be one life less but its the same cmc and its free to sacrifice your slivers also diffusion sliver is fantasic defense thats cheap it gives all slivers spell pierce protection and if you have karraks thumb playing frenetic sliver might come in handy but not recommended and theres a budget alternative to shifting sliver and its just as good iand its 1 mana less ts called "shadow sliver" it gives slivers shadow and ghostflame sliver is considered a hidden gem that can get slivers past the color protection permanents most particually the swords oh even though its a old video its not as budget as it uset to be
This is the first video of yours that I've watched, and I must say that I appreciate the fact that you don't expect your viewers to have infinite money like a lot of people making deck techs seem to. Thanks!
I would run the sliver that says "All slivers gain Whenever this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter it unless it's controller pays 2". It makes lightning bolt, mugging, or any other pesky targeted removal cost 2 more. It definitely buys time.
+Tolarian Community College because I'm a terrible human being and saw this, would you recommend throwing a ghostflame Sliver (all slivers are colorless) and an Ugin, the Spirit Dragon combo in the deck. it seems ridiculous, but if Ugin is in your hand you can tutor for the ghostflame and drop ugin to use his -7 and wipe most of the opponent's board with no repercussions, correct?
watching MTG vids with nostalgia... I´ve stopped with MTG around Mercadian Masque edition, veteran from the Alpha and Beta edition. Nice to see Slivers still going strong !
@@OrochiDoesMincraft Slivers is one of the first commander tribals I wanted to make after I got some from Modern Horizons but I didn't have enough to make it work even with changelings. :( but then Time Spiral Remastered came out and now I have too many slivers to choose from! :D I use the hivelord and, yeah, indestructible slivers are insane. What is that golgari deck? No exile based removal and not enough sacrificed based removal to make a difference? I had to put the deck aside as too powerful for most games (in a 1v1 pairing).
This deck certainly looks fun to play. I'm a huge fan of slivers. It also doesn't look to be unfair and shouldn't be TOO hated out in playgroups. But how COMPETITIVE do you think this deck is in your experience? I see a lot of insane combo decks running around that this deck might have trouble dealing with.
Thanks, for the video, Professor. My one suggestion would have been to add in Patriarch's Bidding. Since it's a Sliver tribal deck, your most likely going to profit the most from it, even against other tribal decks.
Protagonist That's cause Slivers are evil and satanic and wrong... That's why I'm working on acquiring 58 Relentless Rats for my Commander Deck. Nothing like 58 57/57 Rats just a chillin.
I'd like to try a sliver deck one day, and I'm slowly collecting them via pucatrade. When I finally try it, I want to have the 10 Ravnica gates, + Maze's End. P.S. The big problem with Commander is that if your deck is too powerful, then nobody wants to play with you; I'd lay this sliver deck qualifies.
XToverdrive Tribal Myrs work great in commander, mine has been more then enough to stop most other decks. You can see my deck list at tapped out; my name on there is Penores.
XToverdrive check out my deck on tapped out. My account name is Penores. It should show you that making a commander deck based around Myrs is very possible and it works fantastic in practice.
Why do people not play Living Death? It's literally a trump card with slivers. If the game runs long and/or people have been loading your graveyard with your hard played slivers, Living Death will end the game in an instant.
WildMan There are things that prevent and/or counter literally everything in magic. That doesn't mean you shouldn't use that strategy just because *something* counters it. That's like saying you shouldn't play Tarmogoyf because it dies to removal.
It's not like saying that at all. You're looking at things through a narrow perspective, not the grand scheme. While living death is, indeed, a good card, it's not a staple and takes up a spot in the deck where there at least 3-4 other cards that do the same thing but better and faster.
WildMan There are exactly two cards in Magic that do what Living Death does, and the other is the star of a tier 1 deck in Modern that doesn't work as well in Commander. Slivers get tons of hate in Commander, and most of everything you toss out will be nuked from orbit ASAP. Living Death is basically a "you win" card if your slivers have haste.
I would love to see a video where you go over the top cards or just your favorites in your collection. I havnt been here long so sorry if you already have and I've missed it (you don't have to include a foiled stormcrow)
bobby bob as a Scion of the Ur-Dragon EDH player I know it isn't impossible, just a little bit annoying when you realized you forgot a decent ability for 2 seconds.
Where is Nancy Fucking Reagan when we need her to exclaim, "Just Say No!". Say nay to Slivers, kiddies. They are Magic's cardboard Training Wheels. You don't ride a bike with training wheels once you learned how to ride, do you? Slivers are making you look like a total beginner.
I use Vivid lands in my Sliver EDH. I think they are better than tri-lands, because for 2 usages they function as 5 colored mana. Which most of the time is enough to push me to turn 5-6, where I have either a full mana spectrum or a Gemhide /Manaweft Sliver on board.
Anyone who doesn't run S.O as their commander is stupid... First Sliver is respectable if you have to get a commander on a budget. I have 3 sliver decks and every sliver MTG has made, Overlord is overall the best...
I would argue that all 4 of the legendary slivers have almost equal standing sliver queen can easily go infinite hivelord makes all slivers durable legion makes them all retardedly huge overlord can tutor for any of the formerly mentioned lords
Does Wild Pair actually work well with this deck? By the time you bring it out, you've probably pumped up your mass of slivers to the point where it won't be able to target much (since it checks Power/Toughness of the initial creature after it comes into play). P.S. We want a Sliver planeswalker. The hive demands it!
A little late of a reply, but it does very well with the right setup. You need a haste granting sliver, a sliver that lets you tap a sliver for mana and dormant sliver. It is best to start this without any power/toughness boosting slivers as it messes with things a bit. So you cast a sliver with all the previously mentioned slivers and wild pair on the field. You search for another sliver and put it into play. you draw 2 from the dormant, tap the two slivers for mana and repeat as long as you have the mana to play the next one you draw. It isn't infinite but it can sometimes seem that way.
Nanofuture87 One, I thought it would work well until one sliver messed that up: steelform sliver. That +0/+1 is all you need to make a mistake. Two, YES! Minds thinking alike. We need a Sliver Planeswalker...*cough*SliverDeity*cough*
Question. Why did you pick Fury Sliver over Bonescythe Sliver? I would think the difference in power and toughness would be negligent given the number anthem slivers there are, and is more than made up for by being 2 cheaper to cast. Also...how about the Hellrider sliver? (Thorncaster, I believe?)
MirageDragonMyrgon Er...uh...because I was testing you. Yes! Yes! You passed. Congrats. My not including the better Bonescythe sliver was absolutely intentional. /quickly updates list
@@weareroger counter counter point: the only good looking one is Thicc Sliv-er i mean Diffusion Sliver. Why did they make it the only one to look female?
Well...i've been looking into Commander as the format i want to make my primary focus in Magic and i think you just sold the idea of running Slivers to me. They seem quirky (which is part of my own personal touch) and still mighty dangerous. Plus getting to be the guy everyone points their guns at first is rather thrilling~
Hey Tol, where would I buy this stuff? It would cost me loads to get all cards shipped separately, because I live in Denmark. The shipping costs for one magic card only, and I four-star you not, is 3 dollars. That would be really expensive, Is there anyway I can order the entire thing.
I don't know of any one place to buy a completed set. I would look at getting one bulk purchase go to starcity games or another reputable MTG site that allows you to buy singles. Perhaps look at EU countries that have companies that sell mtg singles?
Try tcgplayer.com if you are going to by in bulk. They are truly a god sent when it comes to buying multiples since they have a special offer for magic the gather with certain partners that you can get off with no shipping costs. I just purchased this EDH deck with Queen and Legion plus a few others for a beautiful $230. with only $.10 of shipping costs!
cardmarket.com is strong in the EU, shipping prices are low, and you will find vendors who have several different slivers and useful cards so you can bundle. Or buy the sliver deck from the premium deck series, its an all-foil preconstructed deck with plenty of useful slivers.
I have to say Prof, as always, when i'm in doubt of my hive i come back to this video to see if i have strayed from the path. I have crushed many a deck with my Overlord. I am feared by many, hated by many more. The hive lives on. Love -One devoted fan of the Prof and of the sliver hive.
Joe Ainsworth From one of the most powerful and broken (banned in just about everything) cards: gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=8883 Now, we're not the Academy here, but we do have a very nice certificate program...
Gotta love Necrotic Sliver. I have them in a 5 color sliver deck as well as my main Orzhov deck. Lots of good interweaving synergy w/ Deathbringer Liege, and Cauldron Haze.
My cousin gave me a sliver deck to have when I started and absolutely loved it. This helps a lot. I also love the music for this video. Very ominous for slivers
I was just curious about EDH Slivers and... 1:36 "Since each of these potential Sliver commanders is very expensive at the moment." c. 2014 *5 years later* //Modern Horizons reveal// THE FIRST SLIVER *Watching this video in 2019, staring ominously at the ridiculously low price these slivers used to be accessible at...* Every single one of these slivers has quadrupled, if not QUINTupled in price in an extraordinarily short lifespan, with the exception of the Queen and the Overlord which date back quite some time ago in MTG's history. Literally next to no one I knew cared about or played these cards, until Modern Horizons made its announcement, and I can only dream of ever finding/buying Sliver Queens at that price point ever again. Just a week ago she was topping over $200!!! And Sliver Hives? They were selling on EBay somewhere between the range of 7-10 before all this, sometimes 11 bucks... now?? 15 and into 20 bucks or more if people are desperate enough to pay the price, and most often willing to! Also, pretty wild, if not expected, that practically 90% of this EDH setup is derived directly from the Premium Deck: Slivers itself. A proverbial toolbox of a product where pretty much most of the slivers mentioned here are present in that exact Premium Deck to get this thing up and running. It's great to see Slivers getting some love but holy smokes did I not expect to see such a dramatic shift in pricing. All I want is to get the last Sliver Queen to complete a full play set, and it is so difficult doing so at this point in time. Outrageous.
You glossed an important warning on silvers. Using Winged and Galerider as example. Winged Sliver does not specify slivers you control, while Galerider Sliver does. In the off chance someone has slivers without focusing slivers, you give them the buffs as well until you're able to take control of those slivers . . . I don't know a lot of people that splash slivers. But, those few clowns that do . . . You can bite yourself by playing the All Slivers Gain versus the All Slivers You Control Gain versions. It's been the downfall of one of my old friends many a time when he played clowns (like me) that would splash sliver against his sliver deck.
This video inspired me to build my first commander deck all those years ago, and while it's currently retired, I can't wait to sleeve it up again with the additions from Commander Masters :) Would love to see an update, especially after seeing the deck still exists in your triple sleeving guide!
I haven't checked, but I hope someone has 'one-up-ed' your deck box. Very nice. Natural stain is a sign of class in any arena. Now show us a Tiny Leader Sliver deck. ;-)
Love your take on the sliver deck. I got into commander a few years ago and the first deck I made was slivers. The biggest problem Ive found, which you did touch on, is that I am usually the target as soon as my friends see me put the overlord into my commander zone. in place of psionic sliver, I prefer to run screeching sliver as my non attacking win condition. Even though its not as practical, I love watching my friends faces as they mill all their strongest cards away
When my friends and I first started playing commander, we bought a precon each. But one of my friends got a sliver bundle for super cheap as well. And before long he had built pretty much an unbeatable deck for us. It was not fun
For those able to get sliver queen here is your combo. Sliver Queen, Gemhide/Manaweft Sliver, any haste sliver like heart, and Basal Sliver. Enjoy this search able four card combo.
