This looks so good, and fun. I've struggled to make Doors work since we got it, and I'm thrilled to see it working as a Winota enjoyer. Your point about no Restless Ridgeline is a little surprising, but makes sense. Did you try Mirrex at all?
Yoo thanks! I didn't try Mirrex but I think you could get away with running 1 copy instead of a Forest if you wanted but I probably wouldn't run more than that or you'll likely run into issues where you have to play it early and then don't have colored mana later. From testing I felt like the only matchup where I wanted those creaturelands was against Sunfall decks, and I feel like Wrenn & Realmbreaker does a really good job there. Having something like Mirrex in the maindeck would help game 1 but very few decks outside of control are maindecking Sunfall, and control hasn't been very popular from my experience, plus as I said I don't think you can really afford to run more than 1 so it doesn't really move the dial much. Against most other decks you usually have good stuff to do with your mana every turn since the deck has a lot of mana sinks in addition to the top end if that makes sense?
Yeah, the lands look too tight to run more than one Mirrex, but I will probably try it out as a hedge against bad draws and control. Thanks for the insight!
Yeah due to the low 'actual' land count because of the cyclers I don't think you can afford to run Cavern because you won't have enough green sources for turn 1 Halfling otherwise, and it's pretty bad to have to name Halfling with Cavern. I also feel the deck is pretty resilient to counterspells because of Delighted Halfling, especially post-sideboard where I usually lower the curve bringing in the Wrenn & Realmbreaker etc which is easier to sneak under counterspells. On top of that Reprieve is the most played counterspells right now so I don't think Cavern really adds all that much, but you could probably run a single copy if you wanted, I personally prefer not to because if you replace Mountains then you have very few available to fetch with your Oliphaunt/ Huatli, and if you replace Forests you're more likely to need to name Halfling to play it on turn 1. Hope that makes sense!
Do you have any changes that you've made to this list since the new Alchemy cards come out? The enrage one and the cost reducer one seem like possible candidates for this deck
Hello, the deck looked really cool so I crafted it and had some really fun matches so thanks for the deck. On another note, what should I sideboard against orzhov three blind mice combo?
Looks very cool, I don't have a set of Doors of Durin so I'm running a more traditional Dino Build, hopefully the new Alchemy expansion brings something cool to the deck
You have no removal. What happens if they just keep destroying your creatures like if you play against a black deck? Also you have no artifact removal. How do you deal with that?
Game 1 against Mono Red is tricky but the matchup improves a lot after sideboard with 4 Chomp & 3 Frillback so I've found the matchup to be pretty good overall. If you're playing the deck in Bo1 then I don't think this ports over particularly well as it is since all of the good cards against aggro are in the sideboard.
Fair enough, new Historic guides will be coming soon though. I've got a few decks I'm really liking atm but I needed a bit more testing time on them to ensure they're optimized before I post.
It's felt pretty good against Dimir so far, the deck recovers pretty well from discard spells because you have so many high impact draws so you can usually topdeck out of early discard as long as you have the mana to cast it, which you usually will between 24 lands including the cyclers + 4 Huatli to find lands, and the dorks that will sometimes survive.
