it's not just the synergy of these theme decks, it's the intelligent plays you make! it's really educational watching your games and listening to your thought process.
Strongly recommend getting a deck tracker (like untapped as recommended by LegenVD in his intro 😂) to note what creatures you can Pyre into. Nothing worst than sacrificing a creature then realising you don't have any targets to search out of your deck 😂
What a great, interesting deck. Crazy synergies, and it's really cool and unique to see a Pyre of Heroes deck that involves two different creature types in human and cleric! 28:32 '...Although I'm sure there are other solutions to this puzzle' - yup, like just attacking with all :D
That line of plays in game 1 where you wiped all the opponent's board was amazingly played! I would easily missed it. It seemed like a lost game to me.
I don't think I'm smart enough to play this deck but I'm still gonna try. The 500IQ stunts you pulled in that first game were breathtaking. And that final game against an aggressive removal deck was also inspiring.
This combo is dumb and I love it. I play a bit of a variation, with a couple of meathook massacres, a blood on the snow and a couple bloodline culling / fateful absence. The biggest things I had trouble with piloting the deck were stuff like mono green that can outpace your disciples with tokens etc. that they're happy to sac, plus stuff like Wrenn and Seven / Chariot that can't be dealt with at sorcery speed/creature targetting. BotS also gives you a chance at a 3rd Orah later in game, and Meathook interacts incredibly well with all the sacrificing shenanigans after potentially clearing a gummed up board early on. But the main thing which I think is a straight up improvement rather than personal taste is Professor of Symbology in place of Elderfang disciple. It's a 2 mana cleric that generates the same amount of card advantage, but it puts choice in your hands (learn) rather than the opponent's, lets you tutor whatever lesson you need at a given time, and remains useful even if the opponent has no cards in hand. It also trades better as a 2/1 than the 1/1 disciple. Is there something I'm missing as to why you don't play this?
Agree, I build this deck yesterday because I remembered it looked cool but it doesn't function without Orah or pyke, and it's getting beat by almost every meta deck. Could you post your decklist, maybe I'll like yours better.
@@Rol4nnd I just did a run of it on Twitch (eamongamin) a few hours ago, I'll post it up on RU-vid soon (only did 2 games so maybe want a few more for a youtube vid). Should note still doesn't perform that well against the top meta decks but I think it has a bit more versatility in answers.
I made a zombie deck centered around Champion of the Perished and I'm really loving it. It is so easy to ramp a crazy amount of zombies with all the token generating cards. Also Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia generates a 2/2 Zombie with decay every turn if you don't have a creature with decay, and Poppet Stitcher/Factory removes abilities from tokens when it is Poppet Factory so when you have them both you get a free zombie every turn which is nice.
@@astroboltos7292 I'm not using it because I have Bladstitched Skaab which is cheaper, harder to kill, and does basically the same thing for my deck that Death Priest does for my mostlt Zombie deck. The only 2 creatures I have that aren't zombs are Poppet Stitcher for generating more zombies, and hopefully getting it to transform, and Jadar which also generates zombie tokens.
There should have been multiple MVC cards. The Pyre, the Demon's disciple and the Priest of the Haunted Edge. After all, that's how you clear the board. And again, there is the Most Valuable Player, of course. Awesome.
I don't usually think someone is better than me. Mostly I think of people as equal or inferior, but you ma frand, you're a whole new level. Best magic player ever. I'm not nearly as good as you are at making a deck. You're the real deal. Edit: I'm still playing your werewolves deck. It's awesome. 14 wins in a row on diamond. Players are listing everywhere gruul wolves as a tier 2 deck, but yours is slightly different and much better than what I've found around.
Coming back to Magic from a long hiatus, good to see that pyre allows pretty sexy aristocrat style tutoring, and with plenty of sac style etb removal it worked out. Kinda want to know how it'd perform vs a hard counter sweeper or even a similar token style deck (not necessarily aristocrats but still) but seeing that Game 1 with the double Orah tutor with demon's disciple really shows the power of "on death return x to battlefield" even for just key 2 drops. It's just such a clean aristocrat engine that I also just wanna see it go up against some of it's worst brick walls and some how win.
Orah and Taborax are pretty much the deck’s anti-sweeper tech, either refilling the board instantly or drawing enough cards to offset the wipe. Helps that there’s no Extinction Event or Ugin in the format anymore!
Shadow's verdict is probably the worst sweeper to have to face. Other boardwipes you can probably recover from especially if you had an Orah out. Having a resolved Pyre means you don't need to worry about counterspells, and chaining Elderfang disciples into Elite Spellbinder helps disrupt a control player's gameplan for you to get ahead.
I love Orzhov decks like this. This reminds me of the terrible Athreos Shroud-Veiled/Cavalier of Dawn/Cavalier of Night deck I made. This deck works because all the spells cost half as much.
lovely! ive been playing a more casual orzhov version with 4 valks and sick lifegain, but tbh - iam heavily struggling vs controll. i really appreciate you sharing this rather black/sac cleric setup - which from my pov can actually at least stand its ground against controll via its increased utility (discard/card-advantage etc) - thanks a lot
ive rebuildt this deck, with some slight adjustments due to the lack of wildcards but so far.. Im in love with it !! Its got so much more utility man.. now i really stand a good chance to win vs controll / enchantment
Hey Shane, we're gonna need you to go on the pyre now. Yeah, yes... yeah I know Shane. We get that you aren't super stoked but we really want Bob to get here so hurry up... On ya go.
I started nursing school while you were on break. It's quite stressful and I've been incredibly grateful for your calming and amazing content since you're back.
Gotta say I was impressed by the level of toolboxing this managed to pull through. I will say it felt like you were up against very little removal so I am curious to see how you manage against decks /draws that have more so you don't just continuously build and pyre but I am impressed all the same. I would like to see more of this in best of 3 to see how you adapt this deck. Also bravo for not just using luminarch aspirant just cause like most ppl I see running anything with white.... It's even a cleric and I don't think it really has a place here and your restraint is admirable
@LegendVD I'm wondering how to include some copies of blood on the snow. I really want to play this deck in paper but have definitely gotten ran over by some aggro decks and wonder if having the board wipe would help clear the board and be resilient to bring back a creature. Probably side board for best of three matches. If so, how many copies would be best in deck and what is best to swap out? Your channel is one of my favorites since returning to magic a year ago.
This has a similar appeal to a Birthing Pod deck, where the whole deck is a creature toolbox. It's much more balanced, but the creature type restrictions encourage you to take advantage of those synergies as well.
I don't know why but when I try your deck I'm usually less lucky than you. I would like to see what you can do against some Izzet decks that destroy everything you play and you don't find the Pyre or Orah...or against Dimir control deck that play Blood on the snow when you don't have Orah... I was in a situation where I had too many lands but nothing to do to change the game.
No disrespect to LVD, as the piloting of these 5 examples were great. But this deck gets wrecked in ranked, and who knows how many kitchen table games were played to get these highlights.
@@timelesswake3456 yep, I've build this deck yesterday cuz I remembered it looked cool with all the interactions, but after playing it for a while, it's like you all said... without Orah or pyke this deck doesn't funcion, and even with them you often get destroyed by every meta deck.
Love seeing your daily videos again!! I've been tweaking this deck since your Pyre video a while back.. Have you considered making a version with Hofri Ghostforge? I really think Hofri is a better fit compared to Drana despite being an additional colour, it makes your Priest of Haunted Edge & Demon Disciple provide a stream of value, and protects against boardwipes.. and in the event you need to hardcast Hofri, my version uses professor of symbology (a cleric!) into environmental science into a single snow mountain.
Man, that first match was something else. I’d consider sticking in a Professor of Symbology or two for the sideboard access. Maybe cut the farmhand for it since it doesn’t really seem to do much here. Either way, looks fun. Great content, keep it up!
Farmhand is a nice value creature while being human sacrifice fodder for Jerren. Tough to strike a balance between Humans and Clerics, but I've been happy with it.
@@LegenVD Makes sense. I suppose I’m more into the flexibility of a learnboard, but you’ve certainly shown the benefits of an extra tribe to work with. I’d hate to see what happens when this deck runs into gravehate or artifact destruction, though. (EDIT): Or Yasharn. Yasharn craps all over this deck.
I've been playing a deck very similar to this one for quite a while. it's very fun and kinda powerful. Nice deck all around. I don't really understand Jerren on it..... it's one of the only full playsets and it's really, really far from being the best card in the deck.
The first game was the sort that can really only be appreciated fully by watching .5x speed. Teleportation Circle, although as you showed is not necessary, is always fun for extra flair with ETB effect builds. Well done very epic
The deck is really funny and genial, high chances to win against aggro decks but also something like 99% lose against control. Let's hope for an aggro meta :D By the way this is something to try, good job!!
i disagree with the "99% lose against control" part. There are many versions of control, and for a number being able to chain elderfang disciple into Elite Spellbinder to pick apart their hand makes it hard for them to recover. Sure, some of the creature removal clerics are less useful, but those can all be sacrificed to Pyre to tutor the best options for the matchup.
@@a7wingedsheep I'm wondering how to include some copies of blood on the snow. @@zacharywright5318IMO the tech against aggro is to improve your early game lifegain package by adding cards like cleric of life's bond, righteous valkyries and priest of the haunted edge for removal. Blood in the snow is too slow against aggro at 6mana, but crippling fear can be a consideration since it is mostly 1 sided when you choose clerics.
@@a7wingedsheep Very good advice! Thank you for the reply. I will certainly give those a try and find a good balance. Can always build a decent sideboard for best of three. Cheers and thanks!
can you tell me, whats the specific purpose of jerren in this deck? like why are you running 4 copies of it. i assume as a source for sacrifices or blockers in bad times?
I've been thinking about running jerren in my orah edh deck, but I think 13 life is just too absurd. Although, it is a pretty good card even if you can't flip it
I'm always changing decks to record new videos, so usually don't stick with the same deck for very long. In 2022 Standard I did play the Small Skeletons deck quite a bit even after posting the video.
should be pretty good once you have a pyre resolved. From experience, chaining Elderfang Disciple into Elite Spellbinder with recursion of Orah disrupts them enough, and having a pyre means you are constantly getting value to get ahead
Think this would work with Liesa, forgotten archangel. Sacrifice a creature, bring a larger creature onto the battlefield, then returned sacrificed creature to your hand.
How Righteous Valkrie isn't a legendary blows my mind. for 3 mana you get a 2/4 flier that gives life and gives +2/+2 if you have 7 more life... for 3 mana...
@Redemption Games it gets worse when the +2/+2 bonuses and life gain STACK with 2 or more of the damn things. WotC doesn't playtest their shit very well and seems to balanced by rarity over play.
