I have also been working on my Legends collection in April. And of course it is for absolutely no reason other than I like experiencing the cards. I think you nailed it with your comment that opening packs back before we had tons of information was magical. Without set lists every pack felt like it could contain anything. Like there were an infinite number of cards you could potentially come across. It really was an adventure.

I really enjoy that philosophy of buying the cards you love. Because as you said, if all the cards go to $0, they will still have value to you. I recently purchased a beat-up Revised copy of Vesuvan Doppelgänger for about $6. It's not a very good card by today's standards, but it was my #1 favorite card when I was a kid in 1994, and I wanted to give this HP (borderline damaged) card a home in my growing collection of Vesuvan Doppelgängers. ☺

1994 was a wild year. Our comic store also had a ‘1 per person’ limit on Legends and they jacked the price up to $5 !! I bought one and my rare was Divine Transformation 😢 Nice pick up with the Sword! Yoda says it’s a good time to buy Legends right now. Very soft prices.

I agree with your outlook on buying what you love.....My buy of the month was Tolarian Academy, I had an LP but wanted one that was unplayed because it may be the best land ever printed (restricted in vintage and banned in every other format). It's awesome that such an innocuous looking card that depicts a building, towers and a crab is so unbelievably broken.

Legends was the most underprinted set for its time. You can look at the numbers -- it was a massive set but by June 1994 Magic was huge, but you needed 4 boxes to complete a set (as opposed to 1/2 a box of Arabian Nights or a box for Antiquities). The scramble for boxes was insane -- similar to Alpha and Beta -- and exacerbated by the uncommon distribution being completely screwed up. I love Legends -- probably my favorite expansion set. As to cards recently purchased that meant something to me? I picked up an artist proof from this set recently. That counts.

Very nice thumbnail. I aquired 2 nice copies myself this year at very reasonable prices. (Was a grailer, focusing more on Beta atm).

Still looking for a sword for my oldschool reanimator! Nice to fling it to an opponents face as a finisher hehehehe. Great card! Hope you're doing fine lately, I've been busy, sorry for not dropping by often these days!

Interesting that you bring up the topic of focus. I'm currently at a very similar point and have been focusing solely on one card over the past few months, which I occasionally purchase. The Sword is definitely a very, very good purchase btw. 🙂

I always buy a playset of lightning bolt even though i had a lot of them already, because that brings back memory when i cannot afford i can only glance at it. But i know i can always buy lightning bolts everytime 😅

I think for me it's gotta be neither void I had been wanting it ever since I was introduced to magic by one of my co-workers I saved up some one and found a cheap graded copy and bought it

I do like the cards, some more than others.. but I think for me the collecting aspect is as strong or stronger than yoda the love of the cards themselves .. hope that makes sense
