I can't stop loving this opening enough. Series of unfortunate events really does sum up this deck. Look away, there's nothing but horror and inconvenience on the way.

As someone who *loves* the Series of Unfortunate Events novels, this was an absolute treat to watch. What a perfectly fitting subject for an incredibly well-done homage. You even got the "use an advanced word or idiom then give a comical & contextual definition" gag in there!

Quite literally picked up singles to start building out a Leovold deck on Thursday. So much for the element of surprise in my group! That said, thank you for some suggestions I hadn't even considered!

this is how you do a deck tech.

Despite all the hype, this isn't really tuned up version of Leovold yet. On the Counterspell front there's only negate and misdirection that are actually good (if we are going for truly cuthroat like it sounds like we are trying to), there should be enough ramp to cast Leovold on T2 pretty much all the time (dual land, mana dork, another land is enough). Explosive Vegetation does not make the cut here (there's even better version of 4cmc ramp, Skyshroud Claim and it doesn't work either) While many wheels were mentioned, Timetwister and Time Spiral were left out, as were many removal options like damnation, Abrupt Decay and Innocent Blood. Pillowfort pieces are cute, but not necessary. EDIT: the cards that have superior versions available but somewhy aren't used here: Dimir Aqueduct, golgari rot-farm (citp tapped) Explosive Vegetation (Skyshroud Claim) Cultivator's Caravan (felwar stone) Nevinyrral's Disk (damnation) Prophetic Prism (come on now...) terror (Doom Blade? Go for the Throat? Snuff Out? Innocent Blood?) temples of mystery, malady (citp tapped...) Arachnogenesis, propaganda (why not Rhystic Study or Mystic Remora instead? sure the goal for these is different, but the cards are better) Myriad Landscape (citp tapped, does not give us colours) Dream Fracture (Arcane Denial would be cheaper) Also a fast mana package of Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Mox Diamond, Grim Monolith and Lotus Petal would be nice to enable a fast fast combo deck. The objective is to win ASAP so the opponents do not get to have any fun. Why durdle around with comes in to play tapped-lands, bounce lands and 3/4-mana ramp spells when you can play 0 or 1 mana for those and win right away? :)

You really nailed the feel of A Series of Unfortunate Events, this is my favorite deck tech so far :)

you forgot arcane denial is essentially a less colour restrictive counterspell that lets us draw and if going into an opponents turn who just had their spell countered then they get not even one of the double draw effects its suppose to provide for being so under costed as a hard counterspell.

I freaking love my Leovold deck. I pulled him in a C2 draft, and immediately built a deck around it using mostly cards I had on hand and a few others. What I found is that it has such a heavy artifact basis in its toolbox that adding artifact lands, cranial plating, some affinity and metalcraft cards, and elbrus the binding blade make for some excellent plays, with Elbrus and Cranial Plating being wincons for beat downs.
