They all just taste like cardboard to me, guess my palate isn't refined enough.

I'm very disappointed that there was no mention of Form of the Dragon: The enchantment that literally turns you the player into a 5/5 flying Dragon.

I think you missed the best part of Boldwyr Intimidator: the flavor text works for both activated abilities. Either everyone knows you're a coward, or everyone knows you're a brave, gallant warrior!

To add more to the flavor for Meandering Towershell, Meandering means that it follows the curves or bends of a river or road, basically meaning that whenever it attacks, it intentionally gets lost before finding its way back to hit the opponent the next turn

I feel that Jace's tapping to gather intelligence that Alhammeret makes him forget via discard is pretty flavorful too, and it's after he lost enough of his memories that he became wise to what the Sphinx was doing to him and managed to escape to Ravinca.

One favorite I have is Barrage Tyrant. Just the idea that this huge eldrazi is picking up your other units and chucking them at high speed at the other player is hilarious.

Fun Fact: I once beat my opponent's Hundred-Handed One by attacking with 101 creatures. Of course, Storm Crow could have single-handedly ended the game, but I decided that sacrificing one hundred soldier tokens was an appropriate way to honor my opponent.

Sarkhan is standing on the cliff in the "Crux of Fate" art, easy to miss. He adds more flavor to that card if you recognize the significance. :)

About number 10: It has islandwalk. The art is a walking island. Should be higher on the list.

The quintessential flavor card for me was always Hatred from Stronghold. The idea of hatred being such a overwhelmingly negative emotion is reflected in the effect of the card in that you are willing to risk your own life and livelihood just to cause harm/spite to that object of hatred. It literally changed how I viewed the idea of hatred and drastically toned down the use of the word in everyday life to those situations or things that I disliked so strongly I would be willing to go out of my way and sacrifice something to show my disdain for it.

Rescue from the Underworld should have made this list, imo. I think it's the most Flavorful card ever printed, referencing the myths of Heracles, Orpheus, and others who went to the underworld and brought someone back. The way that you literally send one of your creatures into the graveyard in order to bring another creature back from it is the most flavorful thing I have seen in the game. Considering Hundred-Handed one and Chained to the Rocks also being on this list, I would argue that Theros is probably the most flavorful set ever printed, and its block the most flavorful block. Cards like Eye Gouge, Akroan Horse, and Deicide are just some of other flavor wins the block has to offer, referencing the original Greek Myths as well as the lore of the block.. Plus the way that the gods of Theros work mechanically, needing devotion to materialize as creatures, while still being indestructible and having global effects even without enough devotion, is a great example of flavor and function working together.

I think Skin Invasion is a relatively flavorful card.

You should do a follow up to this video as an Antithesis to this one! Call it "FlavorFAILS." an example would be Bloodsoaked Champion. The card text says he can't block but the art depicts a person wielding two freaking shields! wtf you mean he can't block??

There's the coward card that runs away for a turn (exile) every time they are declared attackers or blockers.

after binging all of your videos, this might be my favorite one

One of my favorite cards is cathartic reunion. It has a picture of Chandra and Pia embracing with Pia looking on in joy and Chandra eyes closed head on her mother's shoulders just enjoying the moment. And the flavor text "The chasm of years and worlds collapsed under the power of their embrace." it hits me in the heart every time

@nizzahon I stumbled across this after watching some of your newer stuff. Very cool to see how far youve come in your presenting, though the more off the cuff style has something to recommend it too.

You miss Gwafa Hazid, really flavorful card.

I know this doesn't have much bearing on the video as a whole, but members of the House of Representatives can't filibuster, in the US national legislature it's specifically senators.

Boldwyr Intimidator is definitely my favorite one here

Tainted Remedy goes very well in flavor with the Liliana flip walker- it is an enchantment that features her giving her brother the medicine she believes will cure him but that ends up turning him undead. The enchantment says that if your opponent would gain life, they lose that much life instead. Super flavor- win!!

Field Creeper wasnt a thing yet but i think it could make this list. the art is spectacular and the flavor text is awesome.

I love this video. Learned a lot about Magic's history. Wish #1 had defender or could have tapped opposing creatures. Richard Garfield explained the lore behind Shahrazad and I thought that was pretty interesting. Glad I never had to play with or against that card though.

Bolas's citadel is quite a flavourful card in my opinion. When I play it it often just comes down and gives me an instant battlefield, like the citadel and dreadhorde appearing. I may be biased though, as I like the card.

I love Akroma's flavor text from Onslaught and I also love Serra's Embrace text even tho I dislike angels and white colour in general. Pearled unicorn is also nice.

Speaking of Chained to the Rocks, Titan of Eternal Fire is also worth mentioning - it's based on the same myth and pretty well depicts the act of giving fire to humans. It's also unique, since Theros' mechanicsw wasn't centered around humans very much

Liliana;s brother Josu was injured on the battlefield, I believe, also he was not healed, the Raven Man led Liliana to plants that he said would make a cure, and she used dark magic for the first time to create it. However, it does not drive Josu insane (well, it does I guess), it basically zombiefies him. Or something. But he's definitely at least partially dead.

Aw! No Hornet Nest? Yeah I love the flavor for the double sided Liliana! Some of these cards I've never even heard of before, and some of them are hilarious! Thanks for doing this dude!

The Hundred-Handed Ones are an actual type of giant from Greek mythology. They are also known as Hecatoncheires. They sided with Zeus in the war against the titans.

If you like Chained to the Rocks check out Titan of Eternal Fire, its a giant that gives your humans R, tap: deal 1 damage to any target. Also they weren't out when this video was made, but the Sagas from Dominaria are just dripping with flavor. For my money the most flavorful is Phyrexian Scriptures.

My favorite is Anguished Unmaking. The flavor text reads: “Sorin had created Avacyn, so it was a cruelty beyond imagining, a pain beyond description, that it fell upon him to end her forever.” The rules text perfectly reflects this, letting you exile a nonland permanent, but costing you 3 life, indicative of the pain it caused Sorin to destroy his own creation. To top it all off, its art is awesome. Definitely a flavor win in my book.

Definitely a good list but I would've liked to have seen coalition victory or Deicide

I feel like Memnarch should have been on this list. It encapsulates the entirety of the Glistening Oil from the New Phyrexia arc; compleating living beings and taking control of inanimate objects to colonize everything for Phyrexian forces. Memnarch was the entity that Karn left in charge while he was fighting the Phyrexians elsewhere, but Memnarch was infected, so he took advantage of the time that Karn was away.

I'm a new sub (7/2019). Being a fan of your vids despite not playing MTG is a testament to your skill. I have to say I'm blown away at the contrast between your early vids and your current ones. You have obviously put a lot of time into honing your craft. Outstanding!

That hundred handed one is hilarious. They could have just said "can block multiple creatures" but instead they went with the more lore-friendly ability. I wonder if anyone ever attacked with 101 tokens or something

You want to know what is flavourful ? Once i was playing commander, and i used anguished unmaking in a creature that my opponente controled, and he used misdirection to change the target to MY Avacyn, angel of hope(which is also my favorite card), it was anguishing indeed, i killed him first because of this

does hundred-handed one only have 2 arms before it becomes monstrous? if not why can it only block that many creatures AFTER it becomes monstrous? so many questions? why did i end that last one with a question mark? you will never know?

How about the whole set Homelands. Actually most of the sets before the Mercadian block felt more flavorful, but the connections between the cards from the early expansions was far better. While the card effects and abilities are now weak and way overpriced, I feel the the Homelands set told the story for the set through the cards themselves better than pretty every other set.
