Don't forget biting more than they can chew (a.k.a Overpromising). It's kinda sad because I want to be excited about this game, the same way I did with Necro Release.
@@zeldapro18 its only an issue because Jagex wont make money lmfao. Minecraft mod Refined Storage (that is also limited by java), you can store millions of items each with different metadata from different mods. When opening or searching it does not cause problems on a low-end machine running both the server and client. Limited Bankspace is a myth, its bad coding. "Server Load" is an excuse to keep metrics and bankspace behind MTX's, its that simple. Server population was up 800% during COVID and the game ran fine, not to mention more and more in-game content is being added and graphically updated, But an already existing feature being used wide spread would be the hair that broke the camles back....? rigggghtttt.
@@zeldapro18 Okay, they are a billion dollar company, and have a nearly non-existent player base in rs3. You can't tell me that this couldn't be pushed through, it's just an easy phrase to placate the player base, because they aren't allowed to take from any profit and make the game better. The profits are very strictly - profits.
As an OSRS player, this is the scariest fucking thing i have ever seen in my entire life. The levels of blatant predatory and dishonest behavior is absolute disgusting. It must be terrifying being a osrs dev and sitting in the same building as the people designing *this*
Need to bring minigames back to life. They could easily take mechanics from dungeoneering and scale "fake players" levels with the average levels of real players who are playing
IIRC, Jagex originally started selling bonds to combat bots selling gold on third party websites. I guess they figured that if their players wouldn't have to worry about scammers and violating the terms and conditions, all while reducing bots, it was worth it.
lets be real, someone said we are going to sell rsgp directly and the main problem was how do they sell this to the players without killing the game overnight. Bonds were the solution. Even osrs players willingly accepted bonds.
Jagex has lied multiple times, so I don't have a reason to believe them. It was a band-aid solution, because Jagex never banned the Gold Buyers themselves, up until very recently due to the Duel Arena fiasco. Which again, took years to actually address and for a lot of creators to spotlight that issue. Hackers and bots can use fraudulent credit cards through hacked accounts to buy bonds, to sell bonds to get players'/bot labor gold. The point of it being a gold sink doesn't work and you can't get 'free membership', due to fact it requires labor for another player or a bot. Overall it doesn't benefit the game at all, it was just means to profit and band-aid solution to an open pipe flow. Perhaps even worse, with that mentioned fraudulent credit card bond purchases, which they can give their bot farms, actually for 'free', membership.
I started in 2003.. I don't care about MTX at all to be honest.. I enjoy the game.. but I absolutely HATE how much Runescape content is totally dead.. Minigames, Dungeoneering, 90% of skilling methods, most skilling methods are pretty bad money makers, etc.. also want to sell more skins? Make them look fancy.. 90% of cosmetics in Runescape are ugly AF.. I've played like every avaiable MMO in last 20 years and RS skins are one of the worst looking ever..
Have you ever played on an iron man? I created one a while back and played on it for a few months. And let me tell you; everything in the game is relevant. Stone spirits are good drops. lol. I’m not telling anyone to start an iron. Just saying things could be relevant. Lol
Have you tried osrs? There’s tons of new content. New spell books, new continents, new skilling mini games and bosses, and still getting updates. The community is huge
The problem with MTX is that it directly ruins skilling methods and prices. Areas with required people to interact become skipped content become dead etc
I've recently found a hobby in valuing businesses and looking at company trends. I've seen an alarming trend where so-called "enshitification" ensues when private equity gets involved. If I recall correctly, Jagex is owned by a private equity firm. This would well explain layoffs and other cost-cutting measures as well as the "by any means necessary" to raise capital. This isn't Jagex's own will, but that of the firm that owns it. The PEF just wants to milk it for what it's worth and sell it to the next person, even if the product, in this case the game, has been milked dry. It happens with something as simple as a grocery store, and something as innovative as a tech startup. DISCLAIMER: I am not a business analyst, nor do I want to be. It's just something I do for fun.
big truth, you can see it EVERYWHERE you look now days, sometimes it a change to cheaper materials or ingredient, sometimes the packaging gets smaller or cheaper, sometime's the price is raised, or the customer service is outsourced to a far cheaper place across the world , you don't see it happening unless you watch out for it, but after a few cycles you are paying double for a much worse product with support that's almost impossible to work with. so what do you do? give up and buy another. exactly as planned.
On my main account.. I spent quite a bit on keys.. I just felt like I was so far behind everything and that it would take forever to catch up... ultimately I regret it. I ended up making another account in RS3 where the only keys I get are the ones I get from quests and dailies. I have focused more on enjoying the journey.. rather than getting to the end.
That's part of why the emulation scene exists. What's the point of a new game looking absolutely stunning, having really fluid gameplay and a killer ost made by legendary composers, if MTX is always there, as a constant reminder you're not free from monetization. Honestly, screw the industry.
@urekmazino6800 same, I refuse to play any games with MTX. It ruins the experience for me. I'll probably never come back to RS3, unless they really tone down or remove MTX.
Also no, those people who say "Lmao just play OSRS" you're not helping, you're just running away from the problem, you're still supporting Jagex by playing their games. If you're genuine about helping, if you really want to make a difference quit FOR GOOD, play on your emulators because the gaming industry is not any better than Jagex.
As someone who maintains their own membership by buying bonds on the GE, I really hate seeing so many promotions causing the skyrocketing in the prices of bonds.
I bought a few treasure hunter keys back in 2017-2018 during a promotion or two and haven’t bought any since. I don’t regret it. Historically I always quit RuneScape because I’m putting in more time that I healthily should not less. I was in the mid game at the time and it really got me the much needed boost to do more fun quests and content and ultimately unlock priff and eventually the quest cape before that summer ended. You get your first job out of school and it’s easy to spend money like that. I had to put a stop to it when a third promotion came through and I realized I was tempted to buy it and if I did I would have spent more on keys than membership that year. I enjoy my RS3 account for maxscape and afk - and I still heavy utilize the free treasure hunter keys to get me there. But these days I often miss the grind and how everything used to be earned in RuneScape. I’ve gotten lucky with crypto and do well in my tech job so I can reasonably retire within 5 years so I’m looking forward to play OSRS more.
Something very minor that was only briefly available after release of Bonds, was that players could get physical merch from their store using them. I picked up a t-shirt using this by snagging myself a/some (I forget the cost conversion) bonds from the GE at the time. Still have it as well. Think it kinda slipped off of most people's radar as I have heard nothing of it since.
Talking about the nerfs to TH specifically its all a move to make people purchase more spins. First action was lower oddments for converting, no extra for multiplies converted, able to buy 15 oddment keys per day. We've seen far more TH promos for sets that require x amount of keys often about 250keys. This is to drain players oddments so they can't keep buying oddment keys especially for xmas time with temptations long before then, probably some at halloween. Unstable proteans replaced regular on TH and at the time I guessed they'd just bring back blues for DXP so people swipe to get some to train skills. Seems thats true. Slayer wild cards also got the nerf. The ones we first had can be used on anything thats a slayer target and gives full xp for being used now replaced with limited specific slayer wild cards also giving less xp. Both still give on rate drops and like proteans this item is back on TH for the Time to train promo. Blue proteans and slayer wild cards won't be gone altogether they'll just be given as rewards in other places or used in TH promos in a limited setting like Time to train. Dummies probably next on the chopping block. If its like the proteans they'll be used faster and give % more xp but won't work on dxp probs.
Having lived through all this shit, the biggest thing I learned was their revenue charts from the past couple years. So you're telling me that they made over 3x more money in subscriptions in 2022 than they did off of MTX. On top of that, they didn't even need the money from MTX to push their numbers over 100m that year? Why the fuck has the RS3 community been pushed into so many breaking points over this!? I've literally went full on OSRS since Hero Pass, and have just now started thinking about playing some content with IRL friends to spend more time with them. (Especially with the lvl110 updates coming.) And you're telling me the very thing that's pissed me off in the game I've been playing for over 20 years now doesn't even make them that much money comparatively!?
Managed to handily grind all the yak tracks by the end of their releaseweeks with only the two skips provided on the 50 tasks I honestly didn’t find them as bad as a lot of people complained early about but found the rewards of later yak tracks pretty becoming less and less And while the cosmetics on the hero pass I did like, on its release it was simply too grindy compared to yak track before they finally gave it a more reasonable progression.
As an osrs player who just started playing rs3 a few days ago my inner gambler got the better of me. I like them agility boot things tho passive xp yeh
I wish I had an ungodly sum of money to waste so I could buy my most beloved IP and then build a non-profit around it to just build a game by gamers and for gamers.
Refer a friend came before SoF and allowed you to refer a friend and it rewarded xp boosts for the referrer and the referred. You could make an account and refer it. Like referring your own alts. So you could buy boosts
Weird quesiton protoxx, but i'm a enthusiastic person when it comes to making videos especially about mechanics of the game or big tips/tricks and like to create content I've tried making a video before on one of my other youtube accounts and tbh i feel unmotivated and unsettled due to how much hate jagex is getting Do you personally think in your wholehearted opinion, is it worth starting from the beginning to content create for Runescape at this current point in time?
Losing trust is a really bad state to be in, but knowing how to tell when someone is lying is useful. It is more the reason behind the lie that is impactful, and I hope it is a good one!
i would Like to Add : By not thinking of Bond Ingame Prices, they are killing the Playerbase aswel. I dont think that Regular F2p player can have enough patience to grind towards a bond, which currently is around 120m gp. and for a Lower Skill member it is a Full time job to try to Upkeep a Membership with those prices.. and eventually they Feel it as a chore to Grind the Bonds to be a member and not find any fun in the game and leave.
I have seen these kinds of comments and I wish a youtuber touched on the following: Is the point of bonds really for the f2p player? Or to reward 1. The one who purchases it to get gp and 2. The veterans or people with good cashstacks. I don't really think bonds should be catered to the f2p or early member, just kills the sense of paying for membership entirely, which is (or was and should have continued to be) the main income of Jagex. Idk that's how I see it, doesn't make sense 7 dollars for 10-20m when RWT gives you a whole lot more. Now it makes a lot more sense to buy bonds for gp.
@@dannymusicdrThe pure lack of content and being put on the back burner while os gets the best possible treatment even though it is full of cry babies and bots.
@@dannymusicdr Yup and it is sad since they basically push bot culture just for revenue, Thousands of bots made than take hundreds of thousands of bonds out of the game to feed the membership in bulk there goes bond prices to well past 20m by the end of the year.
Never bought a key or bond with real cash (to me it feels like unsatisfying and cheating to buy gold, rather achieve the wealth myself). Of course I’ve paid for membership on and off for years but am looking to end that by EOM and go on a Bond grinding journey.
Well i dont have time to Play a shit ton anymore, i played normal for quite a long time but to be able to just buy Agility to 99 was not bad imo. I mean noone has to use mtx since everyone can play at his own pace
Idk how it is today but at one point Jagex also sold bank presets and extra action bars which were super expensive back then but i think they lowered the price years later.
99% of the people that are complaining about mtx are guilty of contributing to why jagex uses it. Communicate with your dollars and your time, not with your words. Your words mean literally nothing.
@@pixelh8952 who says they don't care? Just because of a dry period? They're bringing back Rune Fest that hasn't been back since 2019. I think the hero pass thing really screwed everything up.
@@zeldapro18It is absurdly fast to level up things to 120 except the slower skills besides going for comp there really isn't much to do, Killing the same boss for thousands of kills only is fun for so long.
I watched another video previously and basically they had to start selling bonds and putting in MTX to sort out the RWT problem. As many people know, credit card companies were threatening to not support jagex and Runescape through membership payments anymore due to people complaining about getting their money stolen-due to RWT, so Jagex removed the wilderness and free trade at the cost of upset to the players, but then brought it back. They then had to make a decision of let RWT's kill the game, or bring in MTX. I think they were backed into a corner and had to make hard decisions, but from then it has spiraled into a very predatory MTX system.
i would feel so bad as dev for rs3, imagine creating a skilling method only for mtx coming around the corner with another op promo for years its just been, save up proteans and bxp and wait for dxp, dont know what to say anymore
I want to start by saying I mean this as a honest critique and hope its taken as such. I have been subbed for a long time and today I un subbed because the way I see it, the majority of content coming from you for the past 6 months or so is always a complaint or issue with jagex\RuneScape as a whole. At a certain point it just gets to be to much to hear about all the time without mixing in a fun series or videos or two. I feel there is a lot of opportunity to create content that isn't based around complaining about things happening in the game like a hardcore or ironman series, nuzlocke series, speed runs ect. I get it the state of the game and micros aren't great, but hyper focusing on it is not something I want to hear about on a weekly basis. I want to reiterate that I have been subbed to the channel for a while and want to see you succeed which is why I took the time to type this rather than just unsub and say nothing. All the best and good luck.
Why are bonds this high now? Can you make a video about it? It used to be about what you make on the top end PvM per hour, doesn't seem like it is now. I'm also thinking of poor Timmy the Peasant mining 60 hours for a bond. Can you still pay for it with dailies?
It's just put me off the game - I don't mind / understand that companies need an ongoing source of income and things like cosmetics is totally fine but they're doing game changing forms of MTX. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and has slowly turned me entirely off the game.
First and formost, lets define a parameter here, JAGEX is a Enterprise, wich has only one goal to exist, to "make profit", that is entrepeneurship 101. With that settled, que real question is "how?" See, RS as a community has developed cultural habits already, over 20 years of habits, and they ain't changing soon. RS players normaly don't care about cosmetics, so what is left to sell in the game that is not currently there? For me the lack of creativity and the laziness of "not researching" their own community is the real issue. Effects in abilities, color overrides for all tier 70+ equipments and weapons, special "fatalities" when you kill a boss, just a small short clip would work, and so much more could be brought as buyables in the game. Bonds are by far the most effective and useful item in the game, because what it offers, so why aren't they studing the bond format and trying to create more buyables like it to increase revenue?. Runescape as a game is being left behind because os its limitations already, current tech and engine, so they kinda need to come up with something that works, otherwise is a dead company at the end of the year. With other MMO games coming up soon, with better technology, better engeneering, if they don't stand out NOW, most players won't mind starting from scratch in a new game, because the experience will be positite.
@@Avrahffxiv Jagex is getting more greedy, Do you really think people are gonna like it or tolerate paying 60+m a bond in old school or better yet when they implement MTX system to please the shareholders
I used keys to train many skills I dislike, like Combat (dummies) and Dungeoneering (now 101). Also I trained 111 slayer with mostly dummies 🙂 I bought keys like 4-5 x but only because I didn't have time to play. These days I refuse to buy keys. I rather "grind to earn"
i stopped playing rs3 because of keys i bought waaayyyy too many. especially if a DXP weekend was coming up i would try to stock up on proteans. there was one DXP from when it was announced until it was over i spent over $500 USD on just keys.
I haven't played in nearly 4 months now and I'm not sure I'm ever going back. Which is a shame as I do love the game. I might just stick with OSRS or I might just quit entirely, I'm not sure yet. MTX is only a small part of my reason, but it is a part.
Jagex could make some freaking bank if they did a player model update visual combat animation overhaul. instead of that dumb combat rework witch was nice but didnt make them any money
Complaining about bonds is kind of silly, gold farms used to be a HUGE problem. At one point 50% of the playerbase had bought gold through RWT and Jagex almost got blacklisted by credit card companies because of how many credit cards gold farm scammers would steal info from. Bonds just allow players to engage in the gold market in an😊 above board way, otherwise they'd just use black market means.
My acc got hacked when I quit and had a shed ton of jcoins I needed to buy to unlock it... Think I paid nearly $200 to unlock my account, was ridiculous. Should have just quit back then.
@@MikeBoomiepredatory is forcing it in your face every second and when you log in. And hiding cool items behind a shitty paywall. Defending mtx is down right silly my friend, and when you give these people an inch they'll take a mile. No game that makes you pay monthly should have mtx imo.
Bonds were started when Jagex was threatened by Credit Card companies that they would no longer deal with Jagex if they didn't start dealing with illegal hold sellers that used credit card numbers fraudulently. It was a genuine threat to the existence of the game.
Im new, just started in 2024.. whats with all the crying? Im having fun, have only spent the amount of money for membership, so i quit the game since eberyone is saying its dying? Am i going to be able yo learn to PVP eventually? Or will no one be playing by then? Should I instead go to OSRS or is that also dying aswell??
They're getting membership money from rs3 and osrs that's what keeps the lights on. They're just plain greedy and addicts feed their greed by buying mtx.
@@urekmazino6800 More so getting folks that are addicted irl gambling and have no blocks in game to stop you from dumping 5k cash or beyond within mins
Both are disgusting. If the game was f2p and you unlock all content I wouldn't care, but you pay monthly and they hide things behind a paywall it's gross.
I thought Jagex started selling gold/bonds in response to all of the gold selling scams being refunded and cc companies putting pressure on Jagex to do something about it
Nah, they did a 25k trade limit to stop RWT but a lot of players lost their minds. It stopped merching and you could only buy or sell items -25k of ge price or +25k ge price from players. But the RWTders worked around that.
@@SuperDutchman99 yeah I remember the trade limit. Quest points increased the difference cap. But that didn’t work so they did bonds/1st party gold selling..?
