LOVE the camera controls and and functions on this, but thats a lot of the way toward a Ninja V for something that doesn't record. Its all the way to a Black Magic even if it's only HD record. Definitely the perfect mate for the Z Cam for sure, this should be a package deal with the Z!

If you put this monitor near the Atomos inferno, you will see almost the same brightness, but Atomos inferno has a brightness of 1500 nit. So here are 2200 сhinese nit!

I'm looking for a monitor that could be used to do some livestreams... and, for that, I think that all the informatiions from the camera could be sent to the monitor but it must no be sent on the "HDMI out" so that I may use it for a livestream on youtube... What that USB port does? Does it send any kind of inforation or is it just for upgrading the monitor? Thanks!

Makes me sad that Blackmagic doesn't just make their video assist line of monitors control the BMPCC4K/6K. The think I like about Blackmagic cameras is their UI. No offense to Portkeys but this UI doesn't hold a candle to the UI on the BMPCC cameras.

Does the BM5 support bi-directional communication through the LANC connection, meaning can it receive feedback from the camera, such as changes in settings like ISO, aperture, or shutter speed when these are adjusted directly on the camera?

Does color show correctly?Better than Atomos I have not met. Everybody lies colors. Shinobi is cheaper

great video!! i just paired my bmpcc 4k with the BM5WR just now,. i'm able to control it from the monitor but the monitor isn't showing what's on my camera, the screen is the default screen. do i need to connect something else via cable? i thought that the blue tooth connection will also connect the video? thanks!

Question: I’m using the same batteries you are. How long do you think it would take to chew through 1 battery at the highest brightness and highest fan settings?? I was going to get the 1500 nit but you just sold me on this one. Smallrig REALLY needs to make a cage for this thing with a full square sun shade (like atomos) as to avoid needing to use the higher brightness levels. Thanks for this review!!!

Cool, but way too tiny. Can't really use it for focussing. You need at least a 7 or 8" screen.

My BM5 monitor does not alow me to pull focus. I updated te software, is there a trick to getting the BMPCC 6K to focus with a Canon lens?

My personal opinion - this monitor is not that good. Yes it is bright, but built-in monitor in BMPCC is much better in case of details, sharpness, dynamic range and colors. Would not recommend. 6/10

I`m using the Portkeys Viewfinder Oeye for about 6 months now and won´t miss it. The different possibilities to power it up, mount and the crossconversion features are killer! Looking forward to buy the BM5 because i´m using the Tilta FF alot! Think this monitor will become handy in some kind of situations where it´s difficult to control the focus. What do you think about the color accuracy?

The monitor itself is great however extremely unreliable . Many units are defective out of the box and hdmi and sdi signals can stop working in the middle of your set . Dead pixels are common as well , i went through 4 units. Portkeys customer service and tech support is horrible and only based in China . After the seller return period , they will ask you to ship it at your own expense . Stay away from portkeys for professional work because of their poor quality control .

Theoretically....... When You can connect the Tilta Nucleus N...... Would it alow You to "auto focus" with a manuel lens? Because if the Monitor is telling the focus motor to move. and it has focus peaking....... With the right software it should be able to auto focus, right? Am I missing something? This would be huge!

Very good video, Tom. At around 1.57 you mention that you can make the image bigger by using your fingers on the touch screen. You then say you can turn this function on or off. How do you do that on bm5 please ?

Tom when you go to B&H there monitors with certain cameras in the titles but I saw in your video you toggled thru the different cameras. That is confusing.

Why does my BMPCC 6k readout look different? I dont have all of the camera settings and media like the bmpcc6k has natively. Its just blank and the old portkeys font

I bought the BM5 II and BT1 and returned it pretty much within 2 days. Not worth the £600. Serious flaws inc: 1: After clicking their high speed button it changes everything to 24fps...inc the P4K's high speed. You have to reload a profile to fix. They've known about this for months. 2: Anything above 30fps couldn't be shown. 3: The function buttons are only toggles for a few things. For others you have to tap through many things, each time, to get to what you want. For example...if it was set to frame guides it doesn't turn on or off your choice. It turns it off then when you turn back on you have to go through all the sizes until you reach yours! Same with scopes. No on/off of your choice. Constant presses to get to your choice. Utterly pointless. 4: everything overlaps other things when you're in camera control. Awful UI. Typical afterthought by these manufacturers. 5: because of the awful UI and intermittent touch effectiveness...it adds nothing to the experience. It's easier and cheaper to just use the P4K's screen. Waiting for a simple BT start stop button and that'll do. Buying the new BM VA 5" 12G HDR. Overkill as can't fully utilise its recording capabilities...but the UI and scopes are outstanding. A joy to use. People on a budget should consider touchscreen options of Feelworld 6 plus (also has waveform) or Andycine 6 plus. They're better than the BM5 at half the price. Although they're not as bright. Then the Shinobi, but that has no HDMI pass through. All just my humble opinion from experience.
