Great review, as always. I really like the 2200 nits of the BM5. But, that's where it ends. I prefer the interface of the Shinobi. Yes, I already own the Shinobi, but that's because I really love Atomos products in general. The BM5 interface looks very 1970's to me. Just a little too wonky graphics wise. Why the BM5 works well with the P6K and still has issues with the P4K doesn't make much sense since there are probably more P4K's out there than P6K's. Plus, I also have a sun hood for my Shinobi and that helps immensely when filming outdoors. For the BM5, there are a lot of outputs and inputs that I don't see myself using anytime soon. Coffee wise, I'm a huge Nespresso fan. I love all the flavors that Nespresso makes for their machines. And it just takes about 30 seconds to brew a cup from a pod. And to be ecologically responsible, Nespresso gives me bags to return my used pods in so that they can be recycled. I always appreciate, and watch, your videos even if I don't have any immediate plans to buy what you're reviewing. But, if I do want to buy, I know your videos give me a good understanding of what to expect from the products you review. Great content as always. Cheers.
The menu system is very clunky but theoretically that can be updated via firmware like SmallHD has done. They really should’ve tested on both the 4K and 6K for sure. The SDI I/O’s are a very welcomed feature for me, but not very useful in the bmpcc cameras haha. I appreciate you always dropping by and supporting the videos (and watching the whole way through 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😁).
Would u suggest AndyCine a6 plus $240 for p4k?! Been waiting long and need to pull Trigger. $500 for this without HDMI out seems Bogus. Please assist. 13
Thank's tyler for the detailed video as usual. Please, can you do break down a video of the wireless setup, the camera and the hand-held rig, you had in this video? I hope am not asking for too much, cheers.
Hey Tyler, discovering your channel here... I just got the BM5 III and they have changed the firmware and interface.... Wondering how did you customized a button to get the backlight adjustment via the scroll wheel? I'm quite happy with the image quality of this monitor, but man, I feel like the interface is really badly designed.. not as convenient as SmallHD for example. .. I use it with the Sony FX3 and haven't purchased the Bluetooth module neither control cable as it's super clear yet what can be done with the FX3. Thanks
Chemex pours are the only type of pourovers worth the effort and time, because that flavor profile is oh so smooth and cleeaaan. Thanks for your input on the BM5! Like I said in the last video, I wanted to see how it will work versus the Shinobi. It seems like reliability and ease of use still need some tightening up, as i'd like to navigate ALL the settings through the monitor. Guess it's worth waiting and seeing what firmware updates can do!
Ya it would be sweet if the OS could be more refined and those issues get fixed via firmware! Never had chemex coffee before. French press is a different story though!
Hey Question, I have the Bmpcc 4k, but my HDMI port AND my 12v connect is not working...on my camera is broken, what other ways I can connect the Bmpcc 4k to this monitor?
Tyler Edwards I’m willing to bet the one down vote you received was from a software guy at Portkeys after listening to your 3 minute long firmware upgrade wish list. Lol
Thank you for the video! I'm getting this monitor for C200B, there is no dedicated version for Canon cinema cameras at B&H, but I suppose I should get the Z-cam version since it has the same control cable, right?
I concur with the false color and scrolling wheel comments. I much prefer false color on the pocket 4K monitor. The weird thing is the false color “image” from the pocket will only show on the BM 5 if enabled in camera monitor > lcd only > turn on false color. It won’t work if assigned to a preset button where as a LUT preset will display. Considering returning my BM5 II, decisions.
If you switch it from LCD only to LCD only and HDMI, you can toggle the function button on the bmpcc to send false color over hdmi to the monitor. I like the BM5 but if you don’t necessarily need wireless control of the camera or 2200 nits brightness, I’d go with a SmallHD focus or something. 👍🏼
Ya, I’ve heard QC issues too. A buddy of mine just got his and it was a dud, so he has to send it back. But, my first bmpcc4k was a dud and died on me the first week I had it, so it happens haha.
I don't think Bluetooth would be there limiting factor. Thinking about it everything control you wanted would have to be connected in the camera for control over HDMI which I would guess would be the bigger question. Can you control that much of the camera settings through HDMI and why would they make the circuitry that way for a few people to use it that way... I don't think it'll ever be a remote control for the camera.
This monitor has its drawbacks. First, there is no HDMI output, and secondly 8-bit matrix with color like a cheap monitor for 100$, and third, if you compare with the brightness of the monitor Atomos ninja inferno (which is declared 1500nit) looks the same in brightness. Something tells me that the parameter 2200nit is not true.
