Muhammad was a segregationalist...He felt blacks should stay w blacks...I respectfully disagree...proud of your heritage sure...but be an American of all different peoples
Most Americans hated Ali in a similar way they hate Floyd Mayweather but way worse. They wanted to see him beaten and punished. These people didn't stop hating him until about 20 years later, when they saw Ali on the Olympic Stage with the torch, when he was old, crippled, speech slurring, visibly shaking & helpless.
Single-handedly Mr.Mohammad Ali taught that all human beings are brothers and sisters. He taught by his skills, by his comedy, by his courage, by his kindness, by his generosity and more importantly by his intelligence he instilled it into the unintelligent that human beings are all human beings. No one need to abuse the other.
I wish there was the whole interview shown. But, for a man with little education, as he modestly puts it himself, who couldn't write well,, what an eloquently, well spoken orator ! Very soft spoken man, but, he speaks fluently, clearly, very knowledgeably without ever stuttering or saying 'um', like so many highly educated people do. I am always in awe to listen to this great man, this Hero of the people, speak! Ali! What a gift to the world!
The part where Sammy Davis jr. Spoke about getting rich black people to do something for other black people still resonates to this day, if you want to be about self you have to do for self👊👊
As an Australian, who grew up really admiring these 2 men, and was brought up to value all the races of the world - l can't thank you enough for posting this priceless piece of American History with these two articulate, intelligent, respectful citizens that God used [altho' indiv religious beliefs], to be part of the very slow evolution that has brought very necessary change to American society. This early 70's discussion may sound extreme to some, but these 2 were world celebrities, and looking back in hindsight, you realise that any publicity of their own personal experiences/ opinions, kept the discussion alive, and created a step towards change.
Wow! Was this aired on regular broadcast television? This is some heavy stuff! I don't know if you get quality discussions like this in the media anymore.
Sam Davis sir breathing oxygen chimney with over accessories and diminutive height makes this legendary dancer legendary with another legendary boxer, the most famous one of all superb, respect to the departed gentlemen, thanks for the video.
It was the Mike Douglas show. Which at that time was video tape ( remember the 2 inch video tape reels) in the city of Philadelphia Pa. The Mike Douglas Show would move to Los Angeles some years later. This recording was a copy of the master tape. The numbers on the screen usually indicate that it was copied from the master tape. Or it was a copy of a copy .
@@bayanbaree8638 I'm old enough to remember those days, and I do recall that Douglass would at times would have other celebrities host his show, while he went on vacation. That's probably why Sammy was here. I also remember Douglass did this too with John & Yoko,
Black Muslim interviewed in by a black Jew. You should see his college tours. Even though he’s having a controversial topic, he’s so funny delivering it
My grandmother said us wanting integration was the WORSE THING WE COULD HAVE DONE. My Grandmoma said she NEVER WANTED TO EAT AT A WHITE FOLKS LUNCH COUNTER WHERE SHE WASN'T WANTED. We must GET OURSELVES SITUATED BEFORE WE CAN MOVE FORWARD.
Imagine if we never integrated. All of the black talent that would have come from black colleges etc. Imagine LeBron James coming from LeMoyne Owen College in Memphis. Imagine Michael Jordan coming from Tennessee State University. Imagine Cam Newton coming from Grambling State, or Hershel Walker coming from Southern University in Baton Rouge. And each year since 1964, every McDonald's All American coming from HBCU's. The economic, and psycological impact would have been staggering. And that's just sports. I haven't even mentioned other careers.
Your grandma was right. What's the point of eating in a restaurant where you're not wanted only for them to seat you in the least desirable spot of the establishment or spit in the food that they serve you.
In Hell is more like it... Sammy Davis was a member of the Satanic Church... he never worshiped The Lord... this is just more programming for the masses... people never think past thier programming... but both these guys have nothing to do with The Lord... one is Muslim and the other is a Satanist... they are not in heaven by The Lord's side...😑😑😑
@@johnjones6049 😂🤣 you fool, now go on ahead with your lost self, may Allah grant my brother Ali the highest in jannah (heaven), go speak to your priest and ask him which religion is the way to heaven and i promise you if he is educated and honest he will tell you that Islam is the right one
The handshake was originated in the 15th century. It originally was oriented as a search of the arms to see if there were any weapons hidden in the shirt sleeves of the individuals. The forearms were first inspected then years later only hands were touched in "greeting", when before it was to defuse the possibility of meeting an opponent who would try to sleigh you.
@Chaz Dadkhah Wow! I beg to differ on that! Life is what you make it! If you choose to focus on seperation & confrontation that is exactly what you will get! Morgan Freeman & Denzyl Washington are not crying out about equality.
I remember Ali saying you wanted us separated, you wanted us to not use your bathrooms and not eat at your business's and now that we are saying Okay your mad about it. Not verbatim but I totally understand why he went this route. He was also so young and malleable. Ultimately glad he ended up seeing how this was the wrong way to go. Two legends
Not really. Although he didn't smoke, it was the norm in those days for people to do so. Hard I know for Millenials and those from younger generations to fathom, but it was the reality back then.
@@TS-yg3lv No, it wasn't dumb. It was just that back in the old days, cigarette smoking was just a common and acceptable social custom as coffee drinking is today. You have to understand that it wasn't until 1963 that the surgeon general confirmed that cigarette smoking is harmful to one's health. Moreover, it wasn't until 1970 that cigarette ads were banned on TV. People of that era and prior just weren't educated about the detrimental effects of smoking, like Millenials and even Generation X. With the younger generations, it's taboo, because that's what they were taught. But with the older generations, it was an acceptable custom.
@@lwmson It's not about accepting the norm of smoking back then; more so Ali was a hardcore committed practicing Muslim & they supposedly hate smoking & drinking. And I'm sure even tho he knew Sammy was a hardcore smoker probably didn't appreciate the smoke near his face.
his purpose of seperation and an own state is downright crazy, would lead to more conflict than before and is a sad revelation that not only many whites but also many blacks still define themselves by their pigments and the past and not at first by the dream of one nation.
This is so true..no matter if some people don't want to hear it.but its true.the world is set up where it is divided no matter how much we don't want it to be. I believe this should be a chose' if some people chose it. to be divided..Ali is right.
I hear and see two intelligent men having a necessary discussion. David Storm, it's people (and I use that term loosely) like you who make these conversations a must. Your nasty, disgusting, comment wasn't needed or wanted. Perhaps if you and others like you could walk in someone else's shoes you'd know and understand that racism is real and harmful to all on the receiving end of it.. Mr Davis passed away some 20 odd years ago, so even someone like you should be able to imagine how things were at that time and years before that. You're living proof that racism is very much alive even today and it's an ugly institution.
Baby boomers had the benefit of witnessing the great Muhammad Ali. Gen X had the silent and innocuous Michael Jordan. The Millennials are blessed to have LeBron James. While he's no Ali, he's not silent or reticent like the athletic shoe salesmen.
A nation not depending but lied to before after violating each other. To prevent as many people to live in peace harmony. It don't matter very much where we live. It's how we live. Considering we had it all as Black Native Indians. Ultimately taken away lives lost over Land. Still going on everyday for blood 💰 money.
@@gbrown4x4 Yep. I was on another thread about this topic. I'm 58, a Boomer, and it tickles me how younger generations, like MiIlenials, are so appalled when they see old footage like this of people smoking. But you're right. It was the norm back in those days and just as an acceptable and common social custom as coffee drinking.
Ali who I respect, wants separation, which is kinda late to do now,but his concept could have worked in another lifetime. Also Sammy had 3 wives ,one white,I dont think Ali would have given his blessings on that one! Plus Sammy took on the Jewish religion!
prophet muhammad was the greatest human being to ever be created...and we muslims follow his footsteps since day one....as a matter of fact our duty as muslims is to honor prophet muhammad everyday hundreds of times...and do prayers in his honor...
With all due respect to Sammy Davis jr. Who I think is a fascinating Entertainer and probably and all around decent person, I don't know what kind of person he was cuz I don't know the man but, it seems to me in the beginning then again I'm sure people are going to get mad about this didn't he kind of sell himself out to the white man I hate to make this a racial thing but even the greatest Muhammad Ali speaks of a lot of racial matters and does have some views that would be considered racist. Now I love my beautiful mixed African American Caucasian grandbabies. But it seems to me that Sammy Davis jr. Just went along with what was going on seems to me he just was the pet of the Rat Pack cuz they needed that I don't know somebody tell me and I don't mean that sarcastically I mean this truthfully honestly and respectfully or was he just doing what he had to do to support his family and bring that Almighty Dollar in?
I think I need a retrack now that I went back and look at a few more things and watched a few more clip two things that he was actually successful before he went into the Rat Pack
Also, in my eyes Sammy was never the pet of the rat pack, he was the best of 'em...not one of them was on his level - none. But he simply grew up in times where whites vs blacks, Irish against Italians, both against Protestants, and all against the Natives. Sammy was not like this, it never made sense to him. He always could connect to anybody. He was simply ahead of his time....Best regards from Europe
That's just probably Sammy Davis Jr's personality and style of music, etc. Doesn't make him a sell out. He's who he is. Doing things his way. His style of music and personality drew him to the Rat Pack, and the Rat Pack to him. I've been waiting for years for Tommy Davidson from Living Color tv show, to play Sammy Davis Jr in a movie. Tommy Davidson has Sammy's mannerisms down pack. Lol
Sammy Davis didn’t “sell out’’ any more than great Jazz musicians ‘’sold out ‘’ to the white listening audience.in Europe and US You’re telling me to the Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson type Larger black audience was going to all of a sudden get down with Sammy s singing Sinatra type arrangements.? Sammy s talents and the style of music that he liked to do was more supported by a white audience... that’s not his fault but that’s where his craft was ...anymore than Hootie n Blowfish singer was selling out going country... Watch the documentary on Sammy and what he went through in the early years how they were treated ...you tell me if he sold out ... disgraceful! I suppose you think that if someone speaks well like a Thomas Sowell or a James Baldwin and they happen to be brown or black in skin color that makes them an uncle tom for sounding educated?...there s the racism ! I heard that same shit from Miles about Louie
@@stefunkypunky116 Sammy was the MJ of his day ...fierce entertainer...there’s nothing he could not do if he set his mind to it...but don’t snub Frank and Dean. Frank the quintessential song crooner and Dean maybe the funniest crooner of 20th century... Sammy was my fav...because he was so damn good...schmaltzy...but good
Total separation? Wasn't Sammy's wife, Mai Britt, a beautiful blond Swede. Didn't he get death threats and have to eventually break of his relationship with gorgeous German actress Elke Summer. Sounds to me like he is straddling the fence.
You're Mr. Sammy Davis Junior talking from his grave to be so sure about his opinion? I wonder why people need to compare great athletes and to start arguing stupidly who would win!!! Marciano was a great fighter in his time and Ali was during his time and we won't know who would win unless they fought for real. So stop those stupid fictional comparisons and respects all those great fighters, all of them were great in their eras.
its interesting how Mr sammy Davies and mr Ali talked about respect for the black women - its 2016 and we have BEYONCE and riahanna as liberated strong women. hee hee - hilarious :)
+SuperPat88 why is a woman who's confident in herself, making money, not having loose sex to anyone's knowledge, and good parents the ones that get torn to pieces. Beyonce is an entertainer and young ladies aren't gonna do the things her and rihanna do.
andrea B No, but the kinds of costumes they wear in performance, and the ways in which they gyrate themselves on the stage... not to mention the displays of ignorance they often put out(such as what happened at halftime in Super Bowl 50)... often give off wrong messages and signals. They should watch what kind of messages they give, especially to the younger kids.
He was definitely talking about within the Nation Of Islam community however you are not wrong about the image of black women in music videos these days in your statement.
Smuttyyo Combat That was a young man in a different time. There were slot of other factors too. He changed as he got older. He is acting very appropriate for the time and who he was
Theres Segregation every where in this country there are white Neighborhoods the Suburbs , Black Niehboorhoods the inner citys , Barriors in L.A for Mexicans , Latin Niehboorhoods in ny like Pueto Ricans Spanish Harlem , Chinses Nieghborhoods like Chinatown ,
Man America is more segregated now then ever before.....look at the North most schools are segregated....... segregation is good for a race of people to build economic prosperity for themselves......blacks should have stayed segregated from whites and built their own businesses ,houses and schools......these white so called librals have use Martin Luther King Jr's bullshit strategy to fool us
@@seans3291 nuh that man was power hungry and preached his own version of Islam which is why people like malcolm x and ali left nation of islam after visiting makkah
@@RealEyesRealiseRealLies Ali also turned on Elijahs bow tie operation...funniest thing was how surprised Ali was when he first went to Mecha to pray with all other Muslims and was shocked if they all weren’t black! Muhammad was a natural genius but also very ill in formed and somewhat brainwashed by Elijah Mohammed and the black Muslim movement at the time...he learned true Islam later.
The book of Islam teaches the muslims to wage jihad (physical war) against people who don't worship the god of this world, Satan through the muslim god Allah. They are to fight them until they convert to Islam, pay the tax or be killed. Sadly, Mohammad Ali converted to Islam and followed the teaching of the book of Islam, the Koran. He talks about a nation of blacks....uh, that would be Egypt and Africa. How did that work out? Ali was naive and easily seduced and deceived by Mohammad Elijah, his guru who took advantage of Clay's bitterness toward white America. So sad. He could have done so much for his people if he had gone into politics.
He was so addicted to cigarettes, I think he really didn't think about it, back then smoke filled rooms were so common... People didn't consider it rude.
Than whats the answer...you can't force people to like you, or want to live around you, whites has showed us time and time again that they don't like us (the majority anyway)
This is the most ignorant comment I ever heard!!! So Jews and Muslims couldn't be friends now according to your silly logic. Obviously, you're too ignorant to mix what's political with religions. Probably you even ignore that Muslims protected Jews for Centuries and lived together for Centuries in peace in Palestine, Andalus, North Africa...the list is long. Even during WWI et II there were documented actions of Muslims protecting Jews. I am sure you never heard about the Jews who lived with Muslims in Andalus before the Catholic Spaniards oppress them in a brutal way until most of them did escape with Muslims to North Africa and they still live there. Ignorant people like you daring to spread more ignorance are responsible for hate and animosity between stupid followers who don't know either their religion nor history.
Wake up dude ...Trump just brought 3 Arabic Muslim countries to recognize create peace and start amicable relationship Israel. Yea Trump did that ..not Barak
@@akremamara8349 ur on point. The Jewish Golden Age of Spain took place for a few centuries under Muslim rule, where a great Jewish philosopher dr(the Great Maimonides) was actually Saladin ' physician.
Only 4.4% of the slaves came to the USA... and the USA was the best place to go.. because most of the Slaves that went East in the Trans-Saharan slave trade had died and was treated awful.. and most of the slaves that went West were in South America.. and the Muslims had the biggest slave trade of all time for over a thousand years.. so it's ironic that black people in America become Muslim. If it wasn't for white people going into Africa and stopping Eastern blacks from enslaving Africans.. it would still be going on today.
You mention that Muslims had the biggest slave trade... This is false tribes in the Arabian peninsula and surrounding were part of that slave trade. They were not Muslims yet, when prophet muhammad came he bought and freed slaves himself. Soon when Muslims became powerful and established themselves in the region they began to follow and made sure there were no more slaves. Islam was a slave breaking religion.
Khaled Sherid No.. Islam controlled the African slave trade.. and slavery benefitted Muslim countries from the 9th century to the nineteenth century.. so what do you mean those countries weren't Muslim yet? Yes they were. And Muhammad owned many thousands of slaves.. so that's a bad example to bring up his name.. sure, records show he treated them better than other Muslims treated slaves.. but they were still slaves. And furthermore, what about the Muslims today that get caught enslaving tribes like the Dinka in the Sudan and selling them to other Muslims? But anyway.. slavery in Africa was legal in Classical antiquity and during Arab conquest, but was made illegal during European colonialism... so it's ironic that white people ended slavery in Africa during colonization, yet they take all the heat for slavery.. I always thought that was hilarious.. but that's what white people get.. you should never try to do things based on feelings.. because you will always look like the bad guy. And one more thing about religion, I'm an atheist, so I look at all religions unbiased.. but why do the Muslims lie about Christianity and slavery? They say slave masters forced slaves to be Christians.. but that's a lie.. black people were Christians before the Atlantic slave trade even existed. And another thing.. only 4% of the slaves in the trans atlantic slave trade came to the USA.. most went to South America.. but why does the USA take all the flack? And the USA was the best place to come if you were a slave anyway. People need to stop learning about slavery through biased mediums like Islam.. because Islam controlled the slave trade and try to hide it.
If you don't realize that the trans-Atlantic slave trade brought the HEBREWS OF THE BIBLE to the USA and other countries then you'll never understand the significance of slavery. True, the smallest % came to America yet this particular tribe of Hebrews has had the most impact around the world especially in music and social dynamic. This is why the honorable Muammar Ghadafi said the "ancient nations" were paying close attention to the status of the people of THE BOOK. He went on to say that Libya, Iran-Iraq etc., know these black folk (African-Americans) are the Jews a more precisely HEBREWS and that time is short. This is what distinguishes the Negro from other minorities like Mexicans and Asians, etc.
I never considered Muhammed Ali a hero. He joined Islam to avoid service. He has openly embraced a hateful Racist religion, openly expressed his hatred of white people, and is himself a white hating racist. Yes he was a great boxer but thats where he ends.
Need to reverse this indictment and direct it squarely to the guilty , murderous, slave making, deceitful, blood letting, satanic, demonic, God Damned Caucasian Race 👹
