I'm not a muslim, I'm not a black person, I'm not an American but this video touches my heart. Wish I knew him more earlier. Love from Korea Muhammad Ali. May you rest in peace.
@ؤ و i never thought of reading Quran before, but I changed my mind. I will read it. All racism are equal, and incident like George Floyd never shouldn't happen whether you're black, yellow, white, we are the world. Thank you for the recommendation brother 🙏
Whether or not you agree with his beliefs and religion or not. He stood up for them and refused to kill for something he disagreed with. He lost his titles and his freedom for this. Just think about how much bravery this requires and if you could possibly do the same.
Chizarano Rehmano I'm not talking about whether it was right for Ali to fight in the war or not, I am disagreeing with the point that drpacman made about how brave Ali was by refusing to go.
TehZylem Why is that not brave? He was stripped of his title and had not boxed for 4yrs something he has done since he was 12. He opposed the America government and was told he would be sent to jail. He spoke out about his beliefs in a predominantly Christian America. To me he seems brave, that to me takes bravery and a strong belief system that would say "I rather go to jail".
Manushka Gilet I am pretty sure most people would agree that going to a war where you are most likely to die a horrible death along with suffering traumatic experiences is worse than going to jail and getting stripped of your title that you can win back in a few years time.
@ I'm not saying you're wrong, although, in the world of sports, it is common for attitudes to change like that. The great NY Yankee teams from 1996-2009 were hated by other baseball fans, but now, even Red Sox fans like Jeter, Mo & Posada.
@blayzertrayl That's only a half-truth, not the entire truth. The reality is that, in America, Ali was a hero to most blacks but hated by most whites up until about the mid-70s. When he fought Frazier in 1971, most blacks were rooting for Ali while most whites wanted him to lose. In the lead-up to The Rumble in the Jungle in 1974, once again most blacks were rooting for Ali to beat Foreman while most whites were betting on Ali getting KO'd by Foreman (Ali was a heavy underdog). Much of White America was rooting for Foreman to finally end Ali's career, and shut him up for good... But then Ali pulled off one of the greatest upsets in sporting history, and knocked-out Foreman, something his mostly white critics claimed would be impossible. And before that, most of the African audience in Zaire had been shouting "Ali bomaye!" ("Ali, kill him"), making America realize just how popular Ali was outside of America. He overcame all the obstacles that White America threw at him, and still came out on top. That was the turning point, the moment when White America finally admitted defeat and embraced Ali as a national hero.
Yeah but if you’re drafted it is your “right” to go and join the army. If I dodged the draft at that time I would’ve been out in jail but because he has a little bit of fame means he can get by with it? This is bs
@@ethancbaker2002 ur problem is with the gov. Not Ali. No one should go to jail for refusing to murder other humans. By any religion.... Thats the devils work
@@ethancbaker2002 what do you mean Ali get away with it? He was sentenced to go to jail for five years, and he had to fight for his freedom for four years, just battling it with court for four years...
+MrGeorgewf Elvis had no balls.... the balls is Ali standing up to y'all racist shit heads at the prime of his career is brave.... if Ali would have joined the military he would have never went over seas.... he was bringing to much money to America.
+MrGeorgewf I ain't draft dodging. I ain't burning no flag. I ain't running to Canada. I'm staying right here. You want to send me to jail? Fine, you go right ahead. I've been in jail for 400 years. I could be there for 4 or 5 more, but I ain't going no 10,000 miles to help murder and kill other poor people. If I want to die, I'll die right here, right now, fightin' you, if I want to die. You my enemy, not no Chinese, no Vietcong, no Japanese. You my opposer when I want freedom. You my opposer when I want justice. You my opposer when I want equality. Want me to go somewhere and fight for you? You won't even stand up for me right here in America, for my rights and my religious beliefs. You won't even stand up for my right here at home.
Why should someone go to fight an unjust war for the elite for a country where you and your people was not free? He was right. Elvis was another culture appropriator, copied Jackie Wilson.
When Ali refused to take the step,i was fighting in Vietnam,I have NEVER BEEN SOOO PROUD of ANY man as i was of him, except for my Father and i let everyone around me know this.I joined the MARINES in 1966.At the age of 73 today,im still PROUD of Ali,RIP my BRATHA.
@@GeorgecortCortina there is a old saying which says you can defeat 10 knowleadgable people but you cant defeat one ignorant, and mohamed ali was a hero of the people
hope you are totally healthy and ok as possible my friend after this war.Μy grandfather fought in 2 ww and told me many terrible things he wished he had never seen them .he was never totally the same again besides he was a kind and nice man
You know why? Because fear makes us whimps and targets for people in power. I only fear Allah and no one else. My biggest enemy is my own ego and I am in jihad with my own ego. It is a constant battle and reminds me of staying true to my own self.
They despise him for not joining the vietnam war, now look at it today, vietnam veteran treated like a garbage, some did not deserve it, while some deserve it because of their war crime that they tried to hide / sugar coat it. And look at muhammad ali, legendary boxer, greatest of all time until his last breath.
Yup. It is not easy to lose all for your believes. It takes a lot more than guts and courage. He had no guarantees he was going to get back to being a Champion and a hero.
@@GeorgecortCortina your country is turning to shit, nobody respect you anymore China and Russia and Saudis told you to do f** off. You have so much debt you keep printing papers 😂 well nobody is using your papers now what are going to do? 😂😂😂
RIP , May Allah swt Grant u Jannah, i like he corrected the reporter. Muslim not Black Muslim, Because in Islam we are brother no matter difference , we just judge how Taqwa to God.
„Suppose they gave a war but nobody came“ - Charlotte Keys He was a man ahead of his time. Not a professor but wiser than most and a kind soul. RIP the greatest.
He spoke from his heart... refusing to participate in an unjust war... and even was willing to face a firing squad for doing so which made him even a better person than the '' greatest '' as a boxer.
Can you guys imagine if every single potential soldier will refuse to go to the army, we will never ever have this pointless wars again. The entire planet will live in peace😍
To me this man was on another level because he had faith in God and stood his ground about not going to the service and he loved his people. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017.
I remember this well. He was a very principled man who loved his country but knew thing's had to change. He was the greatest! Both in and out of the ring. Wished thing's could have been different. America never ever learns. ❤
The greatest ever lived!!!! God rest your soul brother Ali for all eternity may your life be an inspiration to black ppl who will come on this planet for ever 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Islam made him understand a lot of things. I do not understand why African Americans were embracing Christianity, knowing that most of their ancestors who came to America as slaves by whites were not Christians at that time in Africa. Christianity was imposed on your ancestors because they did not have the right to choose. Why do blacks not understand that Islam is the first religion that prohibited slavery and freed slaves? And the Qur’an is the best proof of what I say, that it is written there.
Even he sacrificed his valuable times and agreed to go to jail but not joined in War, That made him the greatest. He was super stylish and modern during his time.May Allah bless him Jannah
49 years later, this man (#TheGreatest) is beloved and a pioneer for #CivilRights. Essentially saying the same thing Colin Kaepernick is saying. I was too young to know what effect Ali had on the nation of his views, but I know he sacrificed dearly for his beliefs. People forget that Kaepernick will probably never play for the NFL as Aliʻs boxing career basically ended and was actually supposed to go to jail, if not for an appeal and overturning of the verdict.
***** oh cool, can you make out what Ali is saying to Terrell during the stare down at around 1:10 in this clip: Muhammad Ali vs. Ernie Terrell [FULL FIGHT] . it's hard to hear without a program, and I've always been interested in what he was saying to Terrell.
***** NO WAY! are you serious? terrell actually spoke back? wow. i'm surprised you actually got some sort of transcript since that video was literally recorded in the 1960's lol. thanks for taking the time to do so!
***** that's awesome, lol. standard ali. think you can make a short video out of it on youtube? i'm sure other boxing fans were curious what ali said since this fight is pretty much ali at his roughest
I wish more people would have followed his lead. He was so brave to stand up to the govt and tell them that he wasn't going to go murder innocent people.
@@eurasianbrother1710 That guy has to have over a thousand comments on RU-vid talking shit about Ali so he definitely has some problems if he’s that obsessed with him
That was mad honorable and primal when he said I've been ready for the war.But under no conditions will I take part in taking lives of other humans. That sounds like what it means to keep your eyes on the prize.
@RangerDanger84 Not even "for his country", either. Nothing about Vietnam War was defending the people or territory of America, but was about protecting a lot of the same interests that benefit the people who run the country.
