The golden age of the boxing made forever respectable and glorious by the legendary hero Mohammad Ali and his rivals in the ring.....we cherish, generations cherish....
He is really the greatest of all times.... He could hit a phantom punch to liston and make him sleep... He could play with George Foreman.... He could toy the people's champ Jerry quarry... He hit the most biggest fighters like nothing... And in this fight he didn't seem to hit him in 12 rounds..... He had lived his life in a royal way.... We respect u sir🥰
I've been studying Ali since I was 14 years old and my father took me to see "WE WERE KINGS." the documentary based upon the Rumble in Jungle with George Foreman. If you haven't seen the documentary, I highly suggest you see it. When I watch and study the Clay/Ali fights, I see a man filled with unbelievable, God-given skill/speed/defense/footwork/power/intelligence/hand-speed/etc... I think Ali was very merciful. I believe his skillset from 1962-1976 was above and beyond all the men he faced. The men who gave him the most problems were Frazier and Norton. However, had Ali trained the way he should've, his record against both Frazier & Norton would've been undefeated. In this fight against Mathis, I believe Ali knew he had Mathis beat in the first 60 seconds of this fight. I believe he let Mathis as well as other fighters like Coopman/Dunn/Blue/Ellis/Quarry/Etc.. hang around for a few rounds so that those fighters could say they lasted a few rounds against the greatest. Other fighters like Lyle/Foreman/Patterson/Blin, etc., Ali could've done serious damage to. What a great man... God bless us all for being able to see one of HIS greatest...
Sentimental crap he couldn't live with the more recent heavyweights I've been studying him since the late 60s Champions for ever made me cringe the amount of ali arse licking in it I've met Joe Frazier on more than one occasion and he was so small so what would Tyson and some of the others dun to him fury for instance who I can't stand is 6inch taller and can do all the crafty tricks ali could do
@@willis26311 I'm a big fan of Frazier and foreman but I'm not sure they would beat Tyson And remember foreman on the night he fought Frazier in 73 only weighed 217 that's about Tyson's best weight Tyson was a very strong man and skilful at his best
@willis26311 - I agree completely. How Interesting that someone else who has studied Ali closely like myself has come to the exactly the same conclusions too
Ha! Buster does some dancing at 55.00. It doesn't last for very long. I remember Buster in those days and that he was a big puncher and pretty smooth for a big man. He was a good fighter.
Well if he does some dancing at 55.00 it better not kadt Ling because the video stops at 55.01. So I don't get it. Unless you were there and remember it or watched it on video before

As Prince said " Style is puppy breath Style is no fear of death Style is Ali's jab Style is hailing a cab And giving 'um the finger when they pass your ass"
Yeah, another classic and awesome example of just how amazing and humane a person that he is!!!!!!!!!! Unlike all those movies and others fights, where boxers/fighters inflict horrible damage to an opponent just to please themselves, promoters and the "blood thirsty" crowd, Muhammad puts on (along with Elvis), the Greatest Show on earth and when he's got it all wrapped up, he don't need to wipe the floor with the guy, he doesn't need the "knock-out" attached to his record, he's just happy to win, not hurt the guy more than he has to and move on to the next bout!!!!!
@@elvicare35 Ali the GOAT, Cosell the most annoying announcer ever, Howard be talking about some stupid insignificant trivial bs that happened in Morganton W VA in 1968 January or Houston Astrodome 1969 or July 1967Las Vegas Nevada, Cosell STFU.
@@luisarmijo8552 Ali did the right thing, he just hit him solid with an accurate punch to knock him down and not send the man to the hospital with concussions, just to plz some blood thirsty thrill seekers. Thanx CHAMP!!!
Ali's summary at the end is exactly right. Why punch a man who is already nearly unconscious? Ali respected people. The system doesn't. It's Cossell that deserves the next punch for asking: "Why can;t you take him out?" What an dumb or cruel question. Mathis was already out.
Ali throughout his whole life Ali showed nothing but CLASS, Class, CLASS ! In Ali's time Boxing USED to be called "The Sweet Science" NOT "MURDER AT THE COLOSSEUM"like 2000 years ago where the next challenge was to kill LIONS ,Tigers or Bears ! Throughout history teachers about humanity like ALI who went against the norm"s of the time were most ALWAYS shunned ! Yet they never faltered but waited for humanity to hopefully catch up and or in ONE way or another DIED TRYING to leave the planet and humanity in a better place !❤
That damn Cosell is never happy with an Ali fight during his comeback, like Ali said"everytime you open your mouth you should be arrested for air pollution!" I wish Ali would've pulled off that hair piece of his!😅
ABC paid for the rights to show this fight on wide world on sat. after it was live on paid closed circuit the previous Monday. As Howard Cosell put it, he and Roone Arlidge decided only to show a few selected sequences based on the fact the fight was not competitive. because of this Mathis publicly called Howard a "cruel man". the extra time allotted was filled with Ali/Cosell banter.
Mathis was never in top shape. Frazier wore him down and stopped him too. Mathis had skills but they were of no use when he got so tired that he could barely stay on his feet.
Ali and Frazier became the closest of friends best of friends. When a reporter asked Frazier if he thought their fights could have been the cause of Ali's brain damage and he started crying because he could think that he hurt his friend. TRUTH 💯 FACT. It's on You Tube look it up it'd easy to find.
@@brucescott4261 well I'm just telling what happened in a interview. So why take it up with me go ask the reporter why he asked Frazier the question because u don't know. But I do know Frazier was asked what he thought about it could have been the three fights that Frazier punished him for I belive it was 39 rounds total or 41 rounds they fought and at the thought of Frazier thinking remotely that it could be hid fault he was very very shaken up over the thought because he and Ali became very close friends after they both hung up the gloves.
@@brucescott4261 and if you can read at the end of my comment I said look it up it's on you tube so go watch it and you tell me why he asked him the question. Now git go do it your bothering me mutt.
@@MikeSmith-cn6ub Ali and Frazier were close friends before their first fight. Frazier fell out with him because of all the personal insults and grew to hate Ali for a very long time after that.
What people didn't understand was Ali's jab was treacherous he knocked a lot of fighters with just his jab go look at his fights his jabs are dangerous because he was always a head hunter
A no fight duel. Very boring, exhibition type boxing yet a pay day for both artists. Even some of us Ali's die hard fans have to be riled about his featherlight punches. How do you throw 6 punches at a fellow who keeps coming & smiling at you as if you were fanning him with a feather? Less boxing more dance floor moves😢 Ali's point about not harming an obviously groggy opponent in the last 2 rounds showed the Champion in him though but not many of his fans were happy with his performance. The fight should not have gone beyond 5 or 6 rounds
I just watched Frazier fight Mathis, and it looked nothing like this. In this fight, Mathis was throwing wild hooks from too far out, and most of the time neither guy was throwing hard punches. I n the Frazier fight, in the 6th round Mathis was landing hard, accurate punches throughout the round. He was bouncing on his toes, then he would stop and nail Frazier with a hard combination. All I can say is, this fight has no resemblance to Mathis in his other fights. He looked damn good against Frazier, and Joe was young and at his best. It was a brutal fight with a lot of hard punches thrown until the end. In this fight,. if there were any hard punches landed, I didn't see them.
Styles make fights, even though Frazier wasn’t easy to hit he did get hit a lot bc he’s right there . Ali will make you miss and hit you with punches in bunches.
Why was Ali so great? He only knows a left jab. Damn his "fights" were boring. Nothing happened for 15 rounds, just Ali throwing left jabs in the direction of his opponents jaw, sometimes making a ponit thereby. 90% of the time he just hung out in the ropes. Tyson throws 200 punches of ALL kinds for every left jab Ali had in his sleeve. That was how Ali won his matches - scoring more points with his left jab than the opponent, and and else taking bodily punishment in the ropes. But Ali could handle an amount of hooks to his body. But Damn - think about a fight between Ali and Tyson, both in their heydeys. It would be a knock-out victory for Tyson, it would take 5 rounds, Ali would be a little moe difficult to hit, but it would be very unwise of Ali to try and hang in the ropes, or embrace Tyson (Ali's two trademarks that made him such a boring boxer to watch) Tyson would hammer 10-20 upper cuts to Ali's jaw if he tried his rope trick. No, Ali wasn't a great boxer, he was just hard to win over. And extremely boring to watch.
All this time I was understanding the sweet science of boxing was to win a contest under the established rules for winning. I didn't know it was about brawn and bar fight action for the benefit of the passive observer. Stupid me, huh?
Tyson was a great fighter. I find him to one dimensional. Power and speed Look at Ali in the 60's Fastest Heavyweight Fastest footwork. Fastest jab Could change statergies at will. He got hit by harder hitters than Tyson. Y- Tube Fastest Heavyweight boxers Who's number one? Tysons great, but power doesn't always win. Ali was a much more complete boxer especially using his mind. He wasn't born with power. Why watch him? You hate him You are a Tyson fan Tyson has said it time and time again NO ONE BEATS A PRIME ALI NO ONE
