Honestly I'm cool with none of the Boys ever getting any Super Powers. I find it much more interesting that they are normal people having to try and fight Supes. Plus it seems like something that might not be really possible in this version and Homelander has already talked about just how damn hard it is to even give a adult Compound V and that most everyone they gave it to would just die. I like them being underdogs and just barely getting by on the skin of their teeth. That when the 7 are coming after them that it's this huge threat that they have to worry about. Compared to them just being able to take some Compound V and then being able to go toe to toe with basically any of them other then Homelander. So I would enjoy them not gaining any powers and just trying to find ways to defeat them without it or using other Supes to help them like Kimiko her Brother for that one short moment where he takes out Homelander for a few minutes. And then the trailers seemed to be showing them working with some other Supe out in a field and testing his powers and maybe having him help them out.

Abrams didn't "save his shit" at all though. TROS was where Boyega was relegated to the side 100%. TLJ actually has an arc for him, whether or not you like it.
I thought he meant it as in: he had to be the face of the shit decisions Lucasfilm/Disney pushed on the movie. I'm not saying that's the case, but that's what i thought he meant.
Try and look past your own bias; he's saying that JJ had to come in last minute after Trevorrow was fired, and start from scratch. TLJ had an "arc", yes. Please, try and understand that an arc doesn't automatically make a character good, or a movie good. TROS has to take Finn forward from where TLJ left him, and conclude whatever Rey and Kylo were supposed to be. Look at the screen time for the trilogy; TFA: Rey 43m, Finn 31m, Kylo 19m TLJ: Rey 20m15s, Finn 17m30s, Kylo 15m15s TROS: Rey 55m45s, Finn 24m45s, Kylo/Ben 15m15s Hard not to argue that Finn got left out of scenes with Rey. If Finn had been a bigger part of TLJ, he might have been more central in the fight against Kylo. TLJ already set up the trilogy is just about Rey doing everything on her own; train on her own, escape on her own, lift rocks on her own.

He has come out and defended RJ since the interview, or saying that GQ misquoted or misrepresented him. And when does Rey choose to join the resistance on Starkiller base? The story wants her to go and be a Jedi. If Finn wakes up in TLJ and says, "I want revenge on Kylo. I don't care. Let's tear down the FO." the audience is going to say, "WTF? Why is Finn acting this way??" I don't think so. The problem is that you're taking one possible option that RJ chose to take, and saying that's how it should be. It doesn't have to be that at all. What if Finn was force sensitive but doesn't become a Jedi? Just a force user. He goes from 31m to 17m - I'm sorry that is not developing his character. He doesn't get to hold a lightsaber again, which Maz handed to him in TFA, he spent his "arc" with a new character, instead of with Poe. And in case you can't figure it out, the reason why Poe and Finn are split up in TLJ, is because RJ can't think of a way to make conflict between the two. Poe, Finn and Rey all go on their "arcs" , yes congratulations, but they are influenced, by OTHER characters, and when they meet up at the end, they have no idea how each of them has changed or why. That isn't great writing, sorry. That is contrived. All of this in an effort to give Poe and Finn something to do, wastes time introducing new relationships with new characters, when we want to see them in the story TOGETHER. That's why people like Luke, Han & Leia. That's what SW is about, not about deconstructing the burden of legacy, and referencing throwing away lightsabers. That's why ESB is almost universally loved, and TLJ splits the audience down the middle. I'm all for splitting the audience down the middle artistically speaking, but do that in your OWN movie, not in part 8 of a 9 part saga, in the middle of trilogy. It's ridiculous. Let's look at Finn's "arc" - he isn't force sensitive, he STILL has to be saved by Rey at the end, he doesn't get to face off against Snoke or Kylo, only Phasma, he doesn't get to meet Luke, and for half the movie he just wants to keep Rey safe, even though she saved HIM in TFA, and he tries to sacrifice himself (which is pointless) but isn't even allowed to do that.... Wow. Amazing. I'm shocked Boyega didn't love his part.
finn in a way was my favourite character in force awakens because his backstory was interesting and had potential... but i also had no faith in abrams so i went 'yeah i am not getting invested because i don't trust they have a good idea where this should go to'... (same for rey's parentage and her arc tho i had more faith in that plotline since i figured it'd be harder to fuck up) like my attitude was 'i am not going to have any expectations but if it's good cool' the main lesson here imo is... plan these sort of things in advance

When boyega took his helmet off in that first force awakens trailer, the fan base threw a fit about how a black storm trooper was illogical and only done for sjw reasons... No wonder they didn't give finn more play 🤷🏾♂️

RJ himself said that writing he started by asking himself what the worst thing that could happen to the characters was. And that's the best he could come up with? Casino planet and lectured by someone he doesn't know, double crossed by someone he doesn't know, in order to face down Phasma and want to sacrifice himself for the rebels - but then he doesn't even get to do that. So even what he wants to think is a heroic act is wrong. So where is his big moment? Being rescued by Rey? Rey already rescued herself in TFA so why would Finn need to worry about protecting her? It only makes sense if you realise they didn't have anything for Finn to do in TLJ. JJ didn't decide Finn wasn't a Jedi in TFA. Nothing states that he can't "awaken" in a later movie. Anyway, the whole trilogy is a mess, so who cares? I feel bad for Boyega, though, since he actually cares about SW.

Just watched the Mandalorian trailer, and heard the Jedi reference. I don't think the implication that that is the most recent Jedi history, which would be a bit odd, but just that there is old beef with Mandalor from eons ago. Also the reference to "race" seems to refer specifically to the "yodas" and not just all Jedis. The clip does make them seem a bit unaware of Jedis, but it's pretty ambiguous in that regard.

JJ was saying TLJ was a bit too meta. “The Force Awakens I think was the beginning of something quite solid, The Last Jedi if I'm being honest I'd say that was feeling a bit iffy for me,” Boyega says. “I didn't necessarily agree with a lot of the choices in that and that's something that spoke to Mark [Hamill] a lot about and we had conversations about it. And it was hard for all of us, because we were separated." Boyega has been candid on Twitter about his feelings on Finn’s story, and much to his surprise, Star Wars fans have responded to say they craved more of his story. Homelander is able to fly at super speeds with other people in his arms.. How else can he save butcher right next to a explosion. Which means he was able to save A LOT of those people on the plane in Season 1, He just didn't want to because laziness and he is a monster. I cannot wait for his son to kill him or The Six do it.

If your response in the comments is to shift blame onto JJ, you're not listening to Boyega, for the sake of your own narrative. Just respect the opinions of Boyega, since you don't know the full story behind the scenes. If you read his comments from the Hypebeast interview before TROS came out, it all lines up with what he's saying now.
The central three characters of the ST are Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren. All three of those undergo development and change in TLJ; for Finn it's a continuation of his story in TFA and a culmination of his breakaway from the First Order, and his development into an individual who can make decisions for himself (ie. why he chooses to fight for the Resistance despite the apathy of a character like DJ actually "winning"). To be honest Poe Dameron barely counts as a character; the only time he actually has an arc and development is in The Last Jedi. Isaac's character underwent the most changes from what was originally envisioned, from starting off as a Jedi to actually dying on Jakku when the TIE fighter he and Finn are in crash. Hence the contrivance of him suddenly appearing at the Resistance Base on Takodana near the end of that first movie.

If you read the hypebeast interview you'll perhaps understand, but seems like you don't want to. You just want to pretend that Finn had something exciting to do in TLJ. You can basically edit him out of the movie, because even the rebels ships being discovered because of the obvious double cross by 'obvious DJ grey character' doesn't change very much at all. It's all people in ships we never met. 1. I know Poe was supposed to die. 2. One of the things that people liked about TFA was the bonding between Poe and Finn, and Finn and Rey. It doesn't mean TFA was excellent. It doesn't mean the characterisation was Academy Award winning. 3. What people enjoyed about the OT was not character arcs, or character development (for the sake of it) but the bond between the trio. 4. The problem with TLJ is that in order to give everyone an "arc", so people an talk about how clever it is - and I should add that putting arcs in a movie doesn't automatically make it good writing, or fun to watch - Finn has to go on an adventure with someone else, and Poe has to argue with someone else, when what we really want is for the three central characters to shape and change each other. When Rey and Finn meet, and Poe and Finn meet again, they have changed, but not because of their "friends". That doesn't make it good. That makes the entire plot contrived to make everyone go on a journey. 5. "and his development into an individual who can make decisions for himself" It's funny how when Rey runs away from the lightsaber, by the end of TFA she wants to be a Jedi. Finn who also sees Han die, who also bonds with Chewie, who also stands up to Kylo and holds a lightsaber, still just wants to find Rey and run away. OK. 6. I like how people talk about all the characterisation and themes in TLJ, but nobody talks about how fun it was. 7. If Poe isn't really part of the trilogy, which I agree almost all the characters were weak in the ST, then there's even less reason for Finn to be off on a side quest that goes nowhere. He basically has half the screen time of TFA in TLJ, in order to introduce a general who gets killed, in order to develop Poe's character, and a mechanic, who also isn't very interesting, in order to lecture Finn, so that by the end of the movie, he won't have to be scared. 8. Sorry but Rey has zero motivation to be a Jedi or join the resistance at the start of TFA, she just does it because the story wants her to, and the audience expect her to. 9. Imagine if Finn had been part of the double cross; now *that* would have been something we hadn't seen before, and make use of him being a former stormtrooper. Instead we got a deconstruction of SW for the sake showing the audience what a deconstruction looked like. Yeah, it looked like a deconstruction. How about instead move the trilogy forwards with some things that aren't another Hoth and another throne room scene? 10. If you're saying it's fun to watch a ship slowly follow another one, while people argue, then I disagree. It's tense. But tense isn't fun. @@Ruylopez778 Yeah, I'm not reading any of that lad. The end result is simply this; you didn't enjoy Finn's arc in TLJ, and I actually did. While it's flawed, there's a fascinating triumvirate occurring between him, Rose and DJ. I really enjoyed watching it play out. Canto Bight? It was fine, wasn't it? A casino planet is really not that far from what we've seen before in Star Wars. That's it. It doesn't make you or John Boyega wrong. It definitely needed more Phasma though. That's the one major thing I disagree with Rian Johnson about when he said there was no room for her in the script. She had a very important role to play in Finn's development and it would have been great to see Gwendoline Christie out of the helmet and actually interacting in the story just once.

The reason you keep going on about 'arcs' is because nobody is saying TLJ is fun and exciting. Everybody talks about themes and arcs and development - and some people even talk about jokes, but nobody says it's fun. If you're not going to listen to what other people say, it's not surprising you just summarise what you think other people think. They marketed finn alot in the first one to get people qondering, then when the truth came out they didnt really need him fsce front anymore. I am not a star wars fan in any way thid is just my interoretation
