Good video! Worked at a golf course for many years. All of our rough areas were never bagged, and that was all the proof I needed. We did however aerate heavily in the fall before the snow fell.

I ran a test for 1 year bagging my clippings versus mulching and I can tell you my grass was in better condition and fuller when I mulch my clippings. I might only bag at the beginning of spring for a clean up but that’s it. Only Mulching for me 😀

I bag alot. Between disease and weed seeds i say no to mulching. I feed my lawn regularly so not worried about decaying grass clippings clogging up my lawn for nutrients.

Where I live in northern Louisiana with extreme heat and aggressive weeds, the best formula for me is bagging during key months to prevent spread of weed seeds. Therefore I bag March-July, mulch July-Sept, then bag rest of year -- in other words, mulching the hottest months. I have a lot less weed problem than my neighbors. IMO most homeowners in the south cut their lawns way too short, and spread weeds by not bagging at all. Also I use the paper disposable lawn bags, not plastic so I can conscientiously get away with bagging.

I have a decent sized yard with no collector on my riding mower. Only have ever mulched. I do a slight heavier overlap to avoid chunks mulched grass clippings left at one time as well mow 4-5 days to only take off a bit at a time. For me that’s just routine maintenance to keep the lawn looking its best, and to prevent too much thatch buildup as well.

Bag clippings and rake out debris (including previously mulched clippings) prior to overseeding to improve seed-to-soil contact. Where I live, we have to use paper bags or reusable bins for all yard waste; no plastic bags are allowed in yard waste. So, bagging clippings here does not add plastic to the environment. If you have a fungus problem in your lawn, bag the clippings to remove affected grass and to air out the lawn to reduce the level of moisture that is likely contributing to the fungus growth.

That is the best mulching mower. So with a SR, it will mulch and leave your grass looking absolutely perfect.

I live in Hawaii. The sun is intense and I mulch. Most of the neighbors like to shave all the green off of their lawns. Mulching helps keep the soil from baking.

Another advantage to bagging the clippings is that your bagger will also collect weed seeds on the weeds so you won't be spreading those seeds all over the lawn.

Another consideration is if you have a compost pile. Grass clippings are fuel for that process.

Be careful if you are composting for use in a vegetable garden. If you have applied an herbicide, fungicide, or insecticide to your lawn, avoid adding grass clippings to the compost pile.
