Here's a cool 12V RV fan that does more than just vents. A few minor tweaks and it can be a desk fan, a window fan or a high power ventilation fan for a car, van or fridge. Very versatile!

It's easy to see why they wanted YOU to demo the fan! Thanks for the bonus installation ideas.
@SlimPotatohead

NOTE FROM SLIM: Many have commented that they would have preferred the cigarette lighter adapter instead of bare wires. I have informed the supplier and they have been very happy with the feedback you have given them on their fan, and suggested an easy way to fix the issue. GOOD NEWS! I have included a link in the video description for the complete 12V adapter with plug that eliminates the need to solder. And with the new power cord the fan unit is still under $100! Those who think its too expensive may be comparing it to shoddy cheap car dash fans, which is a little unfair. This fan is a lot better quality, a lot more power, has 6 speeds and reverse. The only comparison I know are the Fan-Tastic RV fans, which with the exception of the Breeze model, are all a LOT more expensive and less versatile. Thanks! SP

Also the Fantastic fans are noisy .. theres a big difference between a soft whirring fan and a noisy one.

Slim Potatohead I DO NOT SEE SCREWS TO OPEN THE FAN. TO CLEAN CIRCULAR WINGS WHICH DUST SEEMS TO CLING TO VERY FAST. I REALLY WOULD NOT LIKE TO SIT WITH QTIPS CLEANING DUST OUT A FAN. I HAVE DONE THAT BEFORE N LEARNED MY LESSON TO BUY FANS THAT ARE EASY TO DISASSEMBLE N REASSEMBLE TO CLEAN.

I use a 12V computer fan, mounted with magnets in my van. There are (relatively) large diameter fans that quietly run on a low speed. you cannot reverse the direction of the flow, but you could mount it the other way around.

I may be weird I know, but I'm one of these people that need consistently humming "white noise" to go to sleep to block out all other extraneous noise. I always turn the "Fan Only" button on when I'm in hotels to block hall sounds and noises from other room tvs. I even carry a small portable device called LectroFan on my travels just because it produces various humming or white noise sounds. YOU can't sleep on your device's Speed 6. In my case it is the ONLY speed I could sleep! Ha Ha. Low consistent humming sounds soothes and hypnotizes me and masks out those other irritating inconsistent sounds. Like I said, I'm weird!

My first thought is that it might work in a van window! I like to sleep to the noise of a fan, so I ordered it. I will be installing a Fantastic Fan, but this might be a good thing for the back of the van. I currently don't have windows that open in the back, but I might can think of a way to do something like that.

@randy7879
@randy7879 5 лет назад
@Ashurii Ya thats way too much for 17.99 you can get a USB Opolar fan which only draws .8 amp hours. Sure its not a window fan, but you can get 4-5 of them for the same price as this and the construction is metal not cheap plastic. I dunno, a lot of these little RV gadgets are way too overpriced. Shoot at 100 bucks I could just got get an inverter and use a regular window fan.
@randy7879
@randy7879 5 лет назад
@Ashurii Ya so true RV's are way overpriced I camped with my family as a kid, in vans, trucks, trailers, and eventually my parents got an RV. I like the whole idea of having a backup home if Armageddon happens or something and the ability to camp out. When it comes to being economical though Ive seen a lot of people using cargo trailers and doing their own simple build or grabbing a low mile box van and using the shell to make life easier for the build. RVs are nice in that you get so many pre packaged facilities already set up, but like you stated, u have to make sure they all work proper when u buy used, no holes in the roof, minimal corrosion, etc. Im mostly interested in the electrical aspects since solar panels and batteries have become so cheap, that was always the thing missing in my old camping trips, lots of free energy! Craigslist people giving away solar panels at like 0.50 cents a watt. Anyway, happy futures :D

I think I prefer your homemade unit with the twin 230mm fans for under $50, which has so many more possibilities, and quieter, to boot. Frankly, I'm a little surprised you recommended it. Small fans like that are best suited for confined spaces, like inside a computer, or venting a compartment. At the high speeds necessary to vent a trailer, plus having to repeatedly push those buttons, I can't help but think it'll wear out sooner than later. My 2cents. I enjoy watching your videos. Quality stuff.
@SlimPotatohead
@SlimPotatohead 6 лет назад
Hi V, I enjoy my computer fans too, and expect to keep them in my vents for the time being. The Titan is an alternative that gives more power when needed, plus the bonus of being able to put two units in the same vent (4 fans). Buttons are no different than you'd find in a microwave, which I have never had wear out. Being narrow makes them very well suited for a window, as you don't have to open it much to get a full breeze. On last thing: the Titan has a cover so you don't stick your fingers in the fan! Thanks, SP

Better to have an air system that forces air in through a filter into the RV than to blow air out or blow in - both will move in dirty air.

Definitely has some nice features. But if you are willing to cobble something together, a really good solution may be 180mm and 200mm pc case fans. Many are designed to run silently for years and the big brands spend tons of money optimizing performance.You'd need to install some sort of PWM controller, but those are cheap.

Van Life: My Life On Wheels I can understand . I have full timed for a total of 13 years and noted that the 12V "cigarette lighter" plugs will eventually fail , especially in cases of aftermarket sockets . Many off the grid folks have changed/adapted to more substantial connectors or simply hardwired accessories . The ONE shortcoming of this product is the power input , coaxial (barrel) plug . Often the socket is the weak link here , mounted directly to the circuit board and easily dislodged or broken . The manufacturer DID supply a 90° plug which lowers the "snag-factor" . ps ; like your channel too .
