i still dont quite understand the concept of acoustically similar being the worst recall leading to the conclusion tat memory is coded acoustically. thank you for all these videos! quick question- have you finished all the content in these videos?

Two examples that might help: Imagine if I read a list of 10 words and then asked you straight away to say them back to me. You be able to do it repeat them back to me exactly as you heard them. That's because STM encodes (thinks about) the way that the information sounds. Then imagine I read a sentence from a book, but then asked you to repeat the sentence back to me tomorrow. You’d probably be able to tell me the basic idea of the sentence but you probably wouldn’t repeat back the precise words I said. This is because LTM “thinks about” what the information means, rather than the exact sound of the information.

Second example: Blue balls = acoustic and Red balls = semantic. Imagine a STM ball pit that is full of blue balls (acoustic/sound based information). If we then put another blue ball in (similar sound) it would be hard for you to identify that ball/sound. But if we put a red ball in (semantic meaning) it would be easy to spot. Likewise, Imagine a LTM ball pit that is full of red balls (semantic based information). If we then put another red ball in (similar meaning) it would be hard for you to identify that ball/meaning. But if we put a blue ball in (sound) it would be easy to spot.

In terms of your question about videos. All the videos for Paper 1 (Social Influence, Memory, Attachment, Psychopathology) are on the channel. All the videos for Paper 2 topics that include Approaches and Biopsychology are on the channel (but not Research Methods yet). And I'm currently working on Issues and Debates videos that will hopefully be out in time for Paper 3.

@@BearitinMIND Thats a fantastic analogy with the ball pit! Thank you very much! also thank you for the swift response. And that's wonderful to hear that the content will be in these videos for the final exam, these videos really are the best for revision online as you explain really thoroughly and in a calm and reassuring manner. Thank you for your work and i hope you realise the wonders you do for many psychology students! :)
