I’ve had one for a few months now. Beautiful workmanship. I found it doesn’t open as many locks as you may want. It doesn’t open a lot of security door or padlocks, but it will open plenty of normal pinned door and padlocks. Still, l wouldn’t be without one. There is a learning curve with this tool and only practice or a good video tutorial will help you increase your success rate. Good review 👍

Yes, it’s a tool that does require practice and that’s an observation I’m afraid I missed out on the video. Thank you for mentioning it here :-)

I've had mine for about a year and it still works great. I love picking locks as a hobby but if you have to do it to get into a door on a wet tuesday night when it's freezing cold and chucking it down with rain, this is much quicker

Thanks for the great review, and the well done montage. I made something like this out of an electric toothbrush. It did work, but let's just say longevity was going to be an issue, and I don't think it was nearly as powerful, or had the correct frequency for a lot of work. Everyone who has viewed this tool raves about it. BB, LPL, and now you. This is the trifecta so far as I am concerned. If I was working in the trade, I would definitely have one.

Hi Lock Noob, Yes the electric pick guns work, like all Locksmiths, we love our lock picking tools etc. we have them, and use them, but they are not a magic wand. I honestly believe they are Country specific. In Australia ( and America ) the vast majority of locks have open keyways, and the mechanical pick gun works just as well. In Europe they tend to have tighter keyways, and the tiny adjustable vibrations of the electric pick gun is probably an advantage. We do have these tight keyways in Australia, but they are fitted by Individual Locksmiths, generally in Master Keyed Systems - and all lock/key combinations are recorded. In day to day lockouts, the electric guns have no real advantage over mechanical. Lockwood ( Assa Abloy ) are now fitting spools in ALL pin chambers, and the pins lock up under turning tension. It does depend a lot on the key combination, however, even using pulsing tension, neither electric nor mechanical guns, will reliably open these locks. SPP is the way to go - or impressioning, as the spools are all pushed into the bible by the key pins. Fancy key and driver pins, and threading, have no effect whatever on impresssioning, in fact they help. Regards, Brian.

Nice review, thanks! I often have folks ask me on my videos (and a few times customers have said “don’t they make electric guns for that?”) why I don’t use an electric pick gun. I’ve had a couple over the years but really I just think it’s gimmicky and loud :) also if you slow the video down at 7:05 you can see the debris just flying out of that lock :) I always felt like I was trying to open a lock with a reciprocating saw and it’s just chewing up the lock inside ;) But still, great video

EPGs are great tools, but they have their place and time. Brass is softer than steel, so you might get some debris if you hit warding by accident, but really, your not using it on a lock more than once :-)

I am more the sniper than the machine gun type. I still mostly use my manual pickgun, but maybe I just need to take some time to practice more with the Kronos. Also do not like the cloud of brass dust coming from the core when using it.
@RAkers-tu1ey
@RAkers-tu1ey 5 лет назад
Agree on the brass dust. Even my crappy home built version would damage brass pins so the key became unreliable after about 10 pickings, but I doubt a pro would ever pick any given lock more than once.
@NoctisMotus
@NoctisMotus 5 лет назад
So true. Such a horrible thing to do to a lock. These vicious machines seem to be popular with locksmiths that couldn't pick their way out of a wet paper bag, and are happy to charge clients for any subsequent work on the lock they may damage by using the tool.
@RAkers-tu1ey
@RAkers-tu1ey 5 лет назад
@@NoctisMotus True enough, but time is money for a pro... and aesthetics are the first to die for the cause. Decades ago I was a mechanic, and I now shudder to think about the way I treated my tools and my now classic subjects in the interest of expediency.

@stratsteveo106 5 лет назад
@@NoctisMotus nobody in the company I work for uses an electric pick. We pick locks by hand and 9/10 times one of us can get in. I've heard plenty of stories from new customers who had locksmiths just drill the lock out without even trying to pick that. We are not all like that, I'm certainly not. I take pride in my work and I'm good at it. Just saying..
@NoctisMotus
@NoctisMotus 5 лет назад
@@stratsteveo106 Very happy to hear that, Stella. Kudos! Friends in the trade work the same way; with respect for the client. The lazy drilling approach is common here in Australia also. I've edited this comment as I originally could not pick any locks with it. However I have persevered with it and find this to be quite an incredible piece if kit. Basically once I managed to pick a padlock I've gone round and picked every lock I can find. In fact its quite satisfying being able to do this at ease. My message for anyone who has one or who is thinking of buying one just take your time and learn this device. It truly is a cracking bit of kit. Apologise for the original comment I was basically totally wrong about this pick

All epgs are hard to use. They take skill and patience and good tension control. They also don’t work in every lock. It might look like this is just a press the button and the lock pops open type of tool but it’s just not the case

I really like the Kronos, at 200€ it is a fair priced quality tool. I am curious what security cylinders can be opened by the wire tensioning technique (thin wire with a 90° bent that is used to quickly apply and loosen tension). I am thinking about getting one, but I am not sure how efficent it is on standart cylinders of european companies (abus buffo/E20, Assa 500/600, BKS etc.). I would really enjoy such a test 😃

Urbansumo, I doubt someone opening a lock with nefarious purposes in mind would spend €200. There are a lot of cheaper ways. At that price point, any amateur would be a serious hobbyist. At Banggood.com, you can buy an electric lock pick for ~$60. A snap gun is just over $10
