Soldiers from 3rd Brigade’s 4th Regiment (4 Regt), Royal Australian Artillery, deployed to the Townsville Field Training Area have taken part in Exercise Chau Pha.
The deployment included airmobile operations with the 5th Aviation Regiment, as well as firing a number of unique training serials including Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) and Danger Close missions.
Exercise Chau Pha is 4 Regt’s regimental field exercise that provides engaging, technical training to ensure the Regiment is proficient in coordinating offensive support in the battlespace.

This is the coolest vid I"ve seen from the ADF. I'm not a soldier, and had no idea they could do that with one gun. That arty crew were smoking it to get those rounds into the air. It would take some pretty cool mathematics and physics to sort this kind of shit out. I'm impressed.

what's more impressive is that our guys were doing it with standard artillery. Modern artillery systems have auto loaders and will automatically deliver a 5 round simultaneous impact "burst". so they can land smoke, ground exploding and airburst rounds, simultaneously! when you do this with 10 automatic guns, you can land 50 rounds within 3 seconds. completely saturating the target area. When you add GPS guided rocket propelled rounds into the mix.... you can land multiple, accurate to half a meter artillery rounds. simultaneously. giving you the ability to destroy entire battalions of armour in a few seconds. There all designed so you can pack up fast and scoot.... while enemy counter battery fire is incoming, so they can pack up and run in under 30 seconds. effectively giving them the ability to dodge a return salvo. the first shot is proven to be the most effective in artillery barrages. troops bunker down and ride out the barrage. A MRSI strike outs all of the rounds o the target before anyone can react making this type of artillery strike the ideal choice for safty of your own forces and for maintaining the element of surprise.

recently i heard vietnamese army artillery did MRSI exercise on 122mm D-30 howitzer, i didnt know if it was real and if our army are that weird now i have seen another army does the same thing, i feel assured that practicing MRSI without an advanced self-propelled howitzer is possible and cool
@bigbluebuttonman1137

It's likely difficult to coordinate for manual loaders. I imagine that if it was practiced more, crews would get more acclimated to it, but auto-loaders can just...do it. The computer manages the hard calculation part.

Also the auto loader would need to be massive with multiple 'bins' to hold the various types of shell. An autoloader can not switch munitions like a human can.

Outdated guns vulnerable to counter-battery fire and by no means the equal of self-propelled artillery. Another example of the army having to make do with second best due to a lack of funds.

Look further out to the right & you'll see frag impacts, look to the rear of the main impact line & you'll see an air burst (perhaps tree hit) with a very telling shrapnel impact spread to the left rear. Also, look around at the trees & you'll see dust dislodged by the shock of the bursts. There's more to it than just the dust & bits falling off trees, on top of the immediate blast & frag the shock wave is a big killer/maiming effect for squishy humans. Plus, it scares the crap out of you (literally). The real thing is nothing like the movies or Arma 3.
