You are viewing two experiments. One is a propagation method of cutting the yam vine between knuckles and getting them to root at the knuckles. The second experiment is getting the yam to grow up a string "artificial vine" so that it can produce a yam in soil which which does not impede the yam production from tree root intrusion. Much like the yam grows in the wilderness. Please watch the video for more information and details on the yam vine type and it's sister vine which you do not want to be growing by mistake. I thought I was the only one growing white winged yams by tying strings to my oak trees. I use sisal rope that decays every year and won't choke the oak branches. That's worked out really well for me as they don't get very big up there. They just want sunshine.

The bulbifora also can be eaten. In India here and in other Asian countries we do eat them. They are called Air potato. You cook them just like potato. If they are not bitter you can eat them. Only the bitter ones are not eaten. I hope this helps.
