The devs have confirmed that characters, stages, perks and other gameplay elements will all be free. The only things you’ll have to buy are cosmetics like character skins. So, hopefully, if everything goes according to plan, this game will be successful.

Ahh this video aged like sour milk 😊 The game’s mad fun, feels fine, the roster is decent, more on the way. Also the fact that every voice actor matches the character they play is a HUGE win too. The battle pass is forgiving and you can even ignore it. Perks are based on the character that you level and you can’t buy them with real money. I think the gripe I have is some of the variants are way too expensive, but I guess they make their money somewhere to pay all of the big name voice actors in this. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely a major win.

@@GGGabrielGaming I wouldn't really worry about that for new characters tho .one of the devs said you can get new characters when they get added to the game for free if you want to grind for them but some people would just buy them because they don't want to do the extra work. But Im guessing you will have to buy alts ,taunt,kill animations and banner with real money.

if you like smash bros you will like this to, and if this game stops updating.. well smash i only played 3 days, unlocked all characters and got bored. they should make characters paid dlc because seriously who is going to buy skins? this game needs more then 100 characters if not well the kids might still enjoy it.

@@bruhkan457 smash bros had 70, 70x boring. i'm not somebody that can use a main character. mortal kombat 11 i used minimum 8 characters online.. those that use a main are not born in the 80's. i like to use all the characters.. so what they should do is put a leveling system on characters unlock a gold skin at level 50.. and then see oh this guy is level 50 bugs bunny but all the others are at 0..

@@theelitegamer1980 you’ve nailed the character level concept! I’ve just been playing the beta and each character (Harley, Finn etc) level up individually and unlock different perks the more you play them. Not sure if that’ll provide skins etc yet mind you

@@EwanJP2001 i played the beta to, it seems normal fight is online.. even i don't have ps plus/tier 1. i won with harley but yeah 1st match what i do punch punch jump punch. then offline with taz.. why the f he freezes himself in a 1 on 1 fight XD after that i quit.. i actually hope unlocking characters will be a little slower, so buying the founders pack feels more rewarding.. if somebody unlocks all characters on 1 day it would just feel bad to me if i spend 39.99 on it.

That’s a fair concern, but at the same time we don’t lose anything if the monetization system is busted right out the gate. The game is F2P so it isn’t like, say, EA games or Overwatch where you had to pay upfront and STILL had to fork over money for microtransactions.

I love this comment because of the fact that any F2P game releases that way for a reason there will always be micro transactions there for the devs and publishers to make money so they can in turn keep rolling content out into the game take "SMITE" for example f2p but you can but skins and the reason they're still ongoing is all the support and the money they make off of just selling skins or small items

Interesting prediction, but I do think there's a few problem with it. 1. They already have a clear pathway for monetization with the battle pass (which has already proven to work for games like Fortnite) 2. You never really explained how a Lootbox/Gacha system would work. Besides skins and characters (the latter never being in a lootbox system to my knowledge), what else would be in there as the trash you don't want? It's pretty necessary to have for this kind of system to work. Speaking of what to put into it. 3. Stage Gacha? The stages you can't pick because it randomly picks when you're online? Mode Gacha? Do you have to gamble to get stock mode? Funny enough, there are stuff you can put into a lootbox system that's already in this game and isn't bonkers, i.e. banners, badges, emotes/sprays, etc. The closest thing to a lootbox system in a f2p fighting game would be brawlhalla. Spend a 100 coins on skins that cost 160 but it's random + exclusive skins. Stupid but w/e.

Thanks for the analysis! here is what i can say regarding your points 1. the deviation from a clear pathway at the last minute is the point i was trying to make, shadow of war promised such things too, only to be changed at release 2. for the gacha system, i was thinking something along the lines of overwatch, i.e. limited times skins for events with a small chance to get rare ones 3.that one is my bad, 100% agree, i was trying for an exaggeration of ridiculous gacha for comedic effect on how bad modern monetisation is, but ended in the in-between not serious enough to be a point and not crazy enough to be a joke and of course, this video is only a prediction from my past experience with the publisher, no confirmed facts, just bad gut feelings With that being said, have a great day Joshua! :)

He was right. It is seem they just made a clone of all star brawl and a grindfest to get characters. You will get like 10 golds per match but the character costs 2000-3000 golds so you have play 200-300 matches to unlock ONE character.

The director Tony said stages will be free and everything cost worthy would be cosmetic. Skins will have some money system. Characters questionable but I assume they'll be free. Perks maybe. Modes I don't know. Limited time stuff? For sure. Now I forgot about the fact that characters would probably be locked behind coins, but so far it's not that bad. I have faith it'll be more in line with Fortnite and League of Legends.

Well, this video aged interestingly, lol. From aging poorly quickly, to eventally aging well again and ending up being somewhat correct. Multiversus was both a massive success and one of the most impressive sabotages of a strong start for a live service, and spedrun it's awards to decline and abandonment. This title's claim ended up aging like fermented food.

I feel like healthy skepticism has to go both ways. Could the game go down a troubling path, sure. But as it stands now it’s hard to imagine how a gatcha would even work. And while they have said all characters and stages will be free. People would be willing to pay for character DLCs if the game is good enough.

It’s sad to see nobody even came back to talk about how this came true because of how much the game has lost relevance. There was an actual 99% decrease in playerbase. But hey, at least it didn’t die because of intrusive monetization. And here’s to hoping the devs actually pick up the ball and try to bring back hype, even though that would be VERY difficult at this point. It's a gamble. It fails or doesn't. Many people are enjoying the game, including big time smash players. We will see. I want this game to succeed. Lots of potential. It won't be a smash killer just to be clear. Nothing will kill smash. Nuff said. It's going to be its' own thing with its' own community.

Look at it on PS5 (yeah, I got one and yeah this is my second one) and it seems you can buy character tokens to unlock characters early😑 Not looking good if they are doing that, especially considering I haven't heard it being difficult to unlock characters normally. Because usually when something like this exists they make it more difficult and more grinding to unlock things.

Eh, I saw the Shop menu in the Closed Alpha, so I already knew microtransactions were inevitable. I imagine that it's purely cosmetics, though. The game itself and everything required to play it efficiently are all free, so I'm fine with it.

most free games have dlc, you can not give free updates and free servers. if cosmetics are dlc this game will fail. people would pay for characters.. cosmetics well i think 90% will not buy that. and to me if i don't get 100 characters minimum then it will get boring in 3 days (just like smash bros)

They'll probably go on the same direction that fortnite went, with microtransactions being just for cosmetics, or the battle pass. And stages, characters, perks, etc, will definetely be free, Tony ( co-founder of player first games) said stages and everything that is gameplay related will be free.

Tony has been pretty upfront with everything and has consistently assured us there won't be any thing paid for that has to deal with game mechanics or anything like that. there will be no pay to win.

It broke new records of concurrent players of a fighting game into the freaking stratosphere. I'm sick of stupid attention seeking videos like this desperate for clicks by claiming X thing is the best/worst far before there's been any opportunity to observe or inspect said thing properly, baseless trend content to pump out without any actual evidence it's remotely accurate and highly likely to age like milk. Edit: OK this video isn't as atrocious as I thought judging from the title/thumbnail but it's still pretty bad and that original title is still everything I'm talking about, apologies for being a bit quick to comment but I despise that stuff and this still definitely fits into bad types of content in terms of nonsense fear mongering without basis (zero connection whatsoever to have that tangent about Gacha when it's completely unrelated)

It broke records? It's being given out for free and is a smash-style game with every streamer paid to praise it. Of course it's going to do well on the steam charts. That doesn't make it a good game any more than any other free to play game having its moment. Maybe this will stay popular for casual play because it's culturally relevant due to the cast, but it's a mess of unreadable animations, imbalance, and floatiness that really doesn't make it fun to watch, as evidenced by most of smash streamers getting 1/2th of their normal views on Multiversus videos despite the memes, accessibility, and hype.
