Last year alone, Caracas had more violent deaths than Baghdad. Ryan Duffy traveled to Venezuela to investigate the country's crime epidemic.

While President Hugo Chavez has raked in billions from Venezuela's oil boom, the crime rate in Caracas has skyrocketed. The crime epidemic has been so punishing that it could be the reason Hugo Chavez finally topples in the country's upcoming elections.

***** I can't think like VICE thinks, so I don't know if they thought they'd get away with it. I speak Spanish like that cop does and every Spanish speaker I've met has been able to understand me. Given the accuracy of the rest of the translation plus lack of slang usage, I doubt it was an innocent mistake.

I AM interested in countries other than mine, one example of that is that I subscribe to viewing Vice videos about what's going on in other countries. I've lived in Caracas all of my life and what this documentary portrays is accurate. Police, here, are what you may call "gang members in uniform" and very recently, the National Guard gunned down an innocent family because they confused their car with that of two delinquents. Now, I won't justify the cops attitude in my country. But look at them. Brazil has BOPE, what do we got? These guys go to Petare under-manned and badly equiped. And the government couldn't give two shits about it.

I'm Italian living & working in Singapore. Unlike Singapore, Venezuela is embarrassingly notorious for having one of the highest crime rates in the world. Venezuela Government should see the wisdom to have death penalty law ( like Singapore) & to severely restrict guns. It is ironic, ridiculous & highly embarrassing that Venezuela is underdeveloped & poor & suffers recession in spite of being a major oil producing country & no typhoons. Venezuela should have same high standard of living of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar & Saudi Arabia.

At 5:09 the subtitles read: "From up here you can see where the war takes place". What the guy actually says is: " Here you can take a peek at the type of houses ( vivienda ) they make up here". He is probably referring to the improvised construction style in houses in the slum. What is the point of changing the meaning here Vice?
