I love all muscles, not all American, I love tuners, not ricers. For example I love a challenger hellcat but wouldn't drive a ford, I love an evo but wouldn't drive a Honda. For real car guys it comes to taste not just where the car is from
All of the debating about American vs import and which is better is so stupid. There are bad ass American cars and their are bad ass imports. On any given day with the right car and driver they can both beat each other in a race. Anybody who appreciates motor sports should just see a bad ass car for what it is, not where it was made.
beefcake3131 i grew up on american muscle im from the south lands i own a dodge and i also own a supra. im glad to see that someone understands racing, and the fact that its not the ride its the rider
Ernie Brown I hear ya, but that shit goes both ways. I used to be one of the guys all about American cars who ripped on the domestics and then I grew up and realized that some of those Japanese cars are mean.
Bearlodge I completely agree there. I hate most of the riced out civics you see out there. Although I will admit every once in a while they are seriously fast. Search youtube for "just a little 4 cylinder"....its a naturally aspirated civic with very few mods that eats V8 cars.
( I'm an american muscle guy ) ...I think we Am guys and Tuner guys should join together instead of hating each other ....we should target our badassness in the direction of the Super Cars !!! We should show them a tuned Rx7 play with a Ferrari ....or 1969 dodge charger can have a porches face ...let's join and beat the supercars !!!! Not each other ...
As much as I like to see import and muscle car guys finally call it truths and come together, you and I both know it's never going to happen. Those damned egos will keep whispering in our minds. Just like there's always going to be racist bigots spreading hatred threw out world, there's always going to be tension between muscle car guys and import guys. Always... That's just a really hard pill we all just have to learn to accept and just swallow.
Funny thing is I went to Japan over the summer and you do not see civics with fart cans on them or any front wheel drive for that matter , what you see is mainly rear wheel drive Nissans like Skylines and GTRs and they laugh when you show them photos of U.S. Ricers . Also you can do what ever you want to civics and cars like it but at the end of the day you still have a civic
Amir Abdullah A computer can shift faster than any man. It's just not possible anymore. But that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying all these quartermile times are slower than a stock GTR's quartermile time
Tyler Hough I'm not certain of the stock ET of a GTR but one car ran a 10 but I do know the GTR's are really fast. But I've seen faster cars lose on a consistent basis because of better driving. That's all I'm saying.
+blackrooster91 muscle cars may have the deep rumble of a freight train but a well tuned import screams like an angry mofo... I love a good v8 rumble but that angry scream puts an even bigger smile on my face. I got a 5.3 ls and a 13b rotary... love em both each has their ups and downs
these fucking import vs muscle wars are stupid as shit. I myself prefer muscle, but shit if any import can get down the track quick, then i have respect for it. I hate when muscle elitists talk shit about "ricers" and how they have no power, and I also hate when import elitists talk shit that american cars can only go straight. (please remember we're comparing 40 year old technology here as well) Can't we all just get fucking along? It's a never ending battle if you have money.
Thank you its seriously the stupidest argument id prefer an import but my respect for muscle is the same its like arguing between play station and xbox or apple vs android they both have there own benifits and defects but both give you the the same adrenaline rush and fun
*+Grumpy* Don't know why we must fight amongst each other. When we should be focusing all of our venom on our *TRUE* enemies! These punk ass fart cannon, lambo door, Pepboys sticker having ricer kids, and these Hybrid car driving, Starbucks slurping yuppies!
Varun Rao NO they are over complicated engineering blunders. Good engineers get the job done with simplicity, budgeting, and performance. The bad ones make everything complex, unreliable, ugly, and expensive. now tell me Which of those descriptions applies to muscle cars and which applies to hybrids?
LOL built v8's, the v8's in the video were hardly built maybe just a cam, intake and exhaust on some of them running 12's besides one Honda and supra that ran 12's they were running 13's and 14's that may be quick but it's not hauling ass
***** I suppose, I always hear of a modded Nissan Skyline (just using as example) that beats a Ferrari but they compare it to the lowest performing stock car. So of course an upgraded import can beat it, but the muscle can keep up with its STOCK engine. However I think they both have their pros and cons.
well how are we talking 40 year old car is the shell 40 years old and everything else is brand new like taking a 69 fastback mustang shell and building a whole new car under it?
Imports are better any day mussels only won because they were costumed vs stock, turn those important into tuners and American cars wouldn't even!! Brah ,word
DJrezafication since when do V8s sound like tractor, diesels probably sound more like a tractor And even a diesel sounds better than a fart spitting import especially the weedwacking Hondas and Volkswagens
Not all V8's, just the ones in 'muscle cars' with like 2 billion litres of engine displacement. You might as well start ploughing farms for money at that point when your car sounds like that.
DJrezafication oh I gotcha! You know why they sound like that because theres a thing called a camshaft that the intake and exhaust valves to open and close! Some people do this to get that rough choppy sound and or performance! So next time read a book on how engines work! Your comment is invalid!
kevin steiner Pretty much all cars have camshafts dude... I'm talking about that nasty slow thumping sound that muscle cars have that sounds like a tractor.
Now u speaking the right language, I love muscle like I do imports but I got a frankinstine 93 Subaru WRX that I eat vetts, challenger and mustangs all day, but I know they can always come back for revenge so I keep building and loving all cars like a car enthusias.
Sure your car may have better handling, better acceleration, better performance. But there's something about good old american muscle that you gotta love... Its you and the car. No tuning, no handling assist, no computers. Nothing but a good old fashioned wooden steering wheel to separate you and that 450+HP v8. Nothing but RAW power, that just makes someone feel alive. Because let's face it, everyone knows its the size that counts ;)
The 2008-2013 c6 corvettes are powered by the all aluminum LS3 which is a 6.2L pushrod v8 making 436hp. Corvettes have not used the LS1 5.7 since the c5 corvette which ended production in 2004 that made 345hp in the base and 405hp in the Z06. 2005-2007 were powered by a 6.0L LS2 which made 400hp.
I don't get it. What's with all the Import vs Muscle crap? I don't see a one of you saying the Ford GT or Chevy ZR1 is bad. I don't see a one of you saying a GTR or '96 Supra is bad. I don't see a single comment saying an Enzo or Veyron is bad. Like what you want, but have a little respect. If you think people need to earn your respect, you aren't worthy of it in the first place.
I love how literally every single person in the comments is ignoring a key factor in these drag races: Most of the time, one of the cars starts nearly a whole second before the other does.
That makes no sense you just contradicted the shit out of yourself with your reply. Most new real American muscle cars are going to be faster than stock new imports. Any car can be modded to do anything.
yea but new muscle old muscle it dosent make a difference all of them still have traction problems when the GTR has traction control and lunch control and 550hp muscle car would not stand a chance
I don't understand why people can't respect every type of car. Yes, muscle cars put down the best 1/4 time, tuners put down the best track times. It's two completely different goals. If your a true car enthusiast you respect all types of cars for what they are. A Bentley Continental may not get the best 1/4 time or track time, but it's goal is luxury. The new Mazda skyactiv engines may not be the quickest off the line but it's a 40+ mpg naturally aspirated engine. It's all about how you look at it.
Straight line acceleration does not make a drivers' car. Most of these muscle cars would end up wrapped around a tree or at the bottom of a ditch in a European rally situation.
Keep flying around turns at 150 mph. See how fast it takes you to crash. You won't be bragging about going around turns when your in the damn hospital bed.
I.... just get confused as hell by the dashboard with the et's. Did the civic have actually a pretty fast 12 sec compared to the other 15 secs and stuff?
when you flick through the comments and realise hardly any of these guys race and have a seriously limited knowledge of how much actually goes into making a car fast. Its more than bhp and displacement.. i mean come on!! we're here because we love cars right. why the fuss?? For the record drives a 04 blobeye, tuned wrx dream car is a 67 gto. gotta appreciate the work that goes in to making all these wonderful machines
Face on evo not on the drag but on a rally race Ur muscle is gonna spin out lol Race on a longer track U will run out of gas before u hit the finish Imports bro
***** And all I'm saying is that the Japanese Domestic Market (and Volkswagen as you mentioned) isn't all shit. America has had some shitbox cars, just like every automobile producer in the world. But trust me imports can sure as hell compete with muscle.
Those huge American V8 engines make massive amount's of Torque, so of course they can scoot down the strip damn fast. Nearly every import there had small Flat 4 engines that don't make nearly as much torque so it's no real surprise that they are a little slower on average for straight line racing. Im also seeing some huge racing slicks on the backs of most of those muscle cars and all that rubber on the track makes those cars hook up really well. Imports can and do beat Muscle cars on the strip, but I do admit it's less often. Watch this for example: /watch?v=IBkSjnY1S6s Just because Muscle dominates the drag strip doesn't make import cars crap. And no im not an import elitist or anything like that, I love all types of cars, I'm not a narrow minded fool like some of you.
It actually all depends on weight and power. Its not about torque. Motorcycles don't have torque at all and they go super fast. Take a physics course buddy.
Rafa Navarro Uhm, motorcycles do have torque...And torque is power. The more torque you have, the faster your flywheel can spin your transmission into gear and thus propel your vehicle forward. I think if anyone needs a class on anything, it's you.
Rafa Navarro dude torque does mean a lot... why else cars can get off fast on acceleration? it's bcuz of torque... you can have all the horsepower; but with no torque; you have no top end...
I love how people are like "oh muscle always beats import" when all of the muscle cars beating the tuners were fully modified for drag, and the tuners were all damn near stock
you can truly judge if you had both. if you are talking smack and never experienced anything else but what you drive, then you are showing nothing more than lack of experience. and if you do chose one thing, it doesn't make everyone else wrong.. and to clarify which handles better, consider that nascar, f1, gp2, indy car and everything else has rwd. that is because it is the fastest way to take a corner. no formula one car has awd or fwd. obviously...front and all wheel drive is best in snow, dirt, or wet conditions (best for rally). rwd IS the quickest way to get around a bend on dry tarmac. its physics.
Wow people actually argue about which sheet metal body framed car is better? Like who cares, you can put in pretty much any engine into any car if you want. Like seriously get a hold of yourselves
tom neve Torque is not good performance cars. It just spins the wheels to no effect. Torque is good for moving loads. Performance cars don't weigh that much, or rather, shouldn't, so there's no point. Power is what shifts you quickly. Your definition of 'shitty' is 'makes a low torque figure'. My definition of shitty is defined by how the engine revs, how it delivers power, how well it uses the capacity it has, how it feels to drive, how easy it is to use the power produced, and how good it sounds. Big American V8s fall at the 'shit' end of every single one of those categories. A little 2 litre Honda Vtec unit, like the one in the S2000, ticks all the right boxes. Exciting, smooth delivery, excellent use of available capacity, feels great, lays the power out nicely and it makes a hell of a sound. A big American V8 works well in a big truck. Not in a sports car... Oh, except wait, a 6 cylinder diesel suits big trucks much better than any V8. Oops.
hahahajhahahahahahahahaha rofl mate you need a reality check if you think a sr20 is better than any v8, torque is one of the most important things in drag and roll races as it gets the wheels moving, say your are rolling at 30mph and there are two identical cars except the torque the one with more torque will be quicker as it will get the wheels spinning faster, easier. the sr20 engine does deliver its power equally but it also doesnt have that much hp as the engine cant have high hp numbers and be reliable. V8s are the best sounding engines, a sr20 isnt it sounds like a hair-dryer. the v8 will produce its power before the sr20 will as it will torque out and produce its hp between 3000 and 5000 rpm then you can shift and be back in the power band the sr20 has to wait untill about 6000rpm to produce less power then the v8. oh and if v8 diesels are bad the why can dodge rams with the 6.7 cummins turbo diesel beat a r35 v spec in a 1/4 mile drag with minor upgrades
Foxtrot Oscar While I agree with a lot of what you said in that American made v8's aren't nearly as advanced as a lot of other motors. Hell the motor in my CBR600 is probably more advanced than anything the big US companies put out. But certain motors are better for certain things. V8s are undoubtedly the best drag motors. I understand that there are seriously fast 4 and 6 cylinder cars, but their is a reason that the fastest drag cars in the world which are top fuel cars use V8's. Also, any type of engine built performance can make a beautiful sound.
beefcake3131 V8s do work well for drag racing... Well, crossplanes. The intermittent power delivery caused by the very design flaw I detest, gives the rear tyres a moment of respite to catch up and regain grip. All faster than a human can detect, but the tyres like it. Some high-powered motorcycles use a crossplane 4 cylinder engine for the same reason. However, drag racing is a fairly useless and boring 'sport', so the V8 isn't all that great in the real world. The reason top fuel cars use V8s is because the rules dictate they must use a certain 8 litre V8. Any engine can make a good noise. However, large crossplane V8s just don't. Small ones, where the imbalances are small and barely noticeable, and that are light enough to rev properly, _can_ sound ok. Triumph's 3 litre V8 is a nice enough engine, as are the TVR V8s. Still not as good as your common or garden 6 pot though, or even most 4 pots with a half decent exhaust.
I think imports are better for these following reasons.. Firstly imports don't race in a straight line. Secondly muscles getting headstart, thirdly muscles have the drag tires and imports don't, fourthly muscles are tuned and the imports are stock. Let the r34 or GTR come wreck them, no hate muscles are cool.
orest kendzora Ya I agree there are definitely some good civics around, but being affordable cars, there's always gonna be teens owning them and doing stupid stuff to them
I lived in Japan and Germany and noticed, they don't hate on American Muscle. In fact they love them, even more because they are so rare and have to be imported because North American manufacturers cant afford to sell them there. Why can't we have that same kind of love for all types of cars here?
No, no. Selling new cars at the dealership. The classics you speak of are shipped by individual owners that move there. Ford is the only one I know of that sells economy cars outside of North America.
4 cyclinder inline engine vs 8 cyclinder V engine. But still not much different. This video prove that the japanese cars with so small engine and less cyclinder are amazing compitition. I LOVE muscle and import. But i hate uneducation with low IQ racist.
Japanese ricer cars make me laugh. The following is shrinking more and more everyday. Fortunately, people are realizing American and European cars are so much better for performance. Why dump 10-20k in a car to make it perform like a 5.0, SS or SRT out the box? LOL.
i doubt that as much as i agree that muscle cars have come a long way in handling, they still fall behind compared to tuners, the only way if they were to surpass tuners is if they made muscle cars all wheel drive
There is only really one import made (Nissan GT-R) that can compare with American Muscle cars. A stock Corvette beat a stock GT-R around a road course. Crazy, huh? RWD is better than AWD when driving around a track. That is why M3s are RWD, as are most other sports cars. It's sad Japanese cars aren't really good performers anymore. Remember when the Maxima was at the top of the heap? Now they are completely forgotten about. Civics are pretty much dead as are pretty much all Acuras.
American cars are like the american football. Only Americans believe is good. Ja Ja Ja. A true fast car is fast in straight and curved, not only in straight like the muscle cars.
I love BMW and german cars in general but to describe me i am into the muscle, cause muscles 💪 are the ones you feel the nerves in everything we touch 💪
Im a huge fan of sleeper cars like a souped up Infiniti q45 those things might have 4 doors and luxury and shit but come with a V-8 averaging between 278-366 hp depending on the year the earlier modles have no limiter and are capable of going over 160 mph stock they also have rwd and hit about 0-60 in about 6.7 seconds and talking about the 90-92 models. You can get one in good condition for 3k or less and they come stock with bose sterio and such! Nobody would expect because they are 4 door.
Gotta say it is quite funny when import fanboys always put a muffler on their car to make it seem so fast. Lol get real. I can get a muscle car and make it loud without putting any junk, fart sounding muffler on it.
Don't get me wrong , their are some very fast imports out there. However, most of them require 30 - 40 lbs of boost in order to achieve great times. Come on people, you can put that much boost on a lawn mower and run good.
im noy rly big into drags but why do a lot of them let one of the people pulls ahead a couple car lengths before they even go? showing off? slow reaction?
The dodge viper has standard parts stripped out of it, racing suspension and all the other jazz. Meaning it is a race ready car. It is barely a car you would want to drive on the road. Compared to a street car that you can sit in for hours on end in traffic and not get uncomfortable.
I like both American muscle and imports for different purposes. Nostalgia and the roar of a V8 makes me wet, but driving quick around a bendy road like out to Tofino a WRX or light weight corner carver would be such a blast.
The matchups weren't very even. You have to take into account the fact that most of the "imports" are four cylinders whereas the definition of a muscle car is an 8 cylinder american sports car. This isn't a biased thing I'm just stating the facts so please don't get butthurt with the replies.
If I were going to drag race my evo or sti,I would do RWD conversion and mod the suspension to put the power to the ground. It's very rare to hear or see about any evo or sti that has RWD conversion because of their rally car nature, but that's just me.
I completely agree with you. There is a reason they dont make them like they used to though. One of the biggies is eficiency. Back then the sheet metal used was much thicker, making the car heavier. Seriously, you lay on it in one of these muscles in the vid, you can literally watch the gas needle sink. While driving a 4-banger FWD may not be fun, you can make them to be decently fast and maintain their eficiency. Fun DD cars, which is what most people use a car for anyways...
They were not "jumping" the line they were intenionaly allowed to take off first cause they were stock compared to the other car not being stock, was done to test the tuned car and see if it could catch up
I was at English town once. All the Muscle cars wanted to race bone stock imports because they were scared to lose. The races werent fair because the muscle cars were modified while the imports were stock. NOT FAIR!!
yeah the main problem ive heard with the evo is the build quality is not good for example i heard from one guy that when he went over 100mph on a track the bumper nearly fell apart so not as well made as a US car lol
Well? Cars happen to be one of my obsessions theres more to it when it comes to cars than playing Gran Turismo and studying the details of each car and history it has. A true car enthusiest appreciates both import and domestic statisticwise I know what each car is capable of.
