I have seen the SR-71 at the National Museum of the USAF in Dayton, OH. It's hard to believe this mighty reconnaissance aircraft was classified. Fun fact, the orginal name of this plane was RS-71 when president JFK mistakenly called it the SR-71... but instead of telling the president the mistake he made... Lockheed's Skunkworks actually changed all documentation to actually rename it SR-71. Also, there was a lesser known single seat variant designated A-12 along with a prototype high altitude interceptor known as the YF-12... there even was a mothership version for the equally classified reconnaissance drone that I saw at the Grissom Air Museum in Peru, IN known as the M-21/D-21, but all those planes were known universally as Blackbirds.

If i remember, the SR-71 was built with Titanium rather than conventional aircraft aluminum. The engines, the Pratt and Whitney J58 were known as turbo-ramjets. The Blackbirds was designed in response to the USSR shooting down a U-2 Dragon Lady. Plus, to put the engines in comparison... the J58s produced more power than 45 diesel Locomotives or the biggest Atlantic liner ever built. And I would say hell yeah for more videos of this museum. Aviation always has been a strong interest for me... i even volunteer at the American Helicopter Museum in West Chester, PA.

Was my childhood favorite. Made several plastic models of this plane growing up. So unique and super cool looking. I still have an unopened kit sitting in my closet today.😁😁

Literally on my bucket list to see this thing in person, "never going to happen" to sit in the cockpit even if just for a few seconds

When I graduated from Air Force basic there was one on the parade field. It talked about how it leaked until it reached Mach 1. Amazing tech for it’s time.

So cool to see in person, if you’re ever near Dayton OH pay a visit to the National Air Force museum, one of the best in the country. And it’s free. Hopefully you stopped at Buc ees while in Warner Robins 👍🏼

Not only did they design it with no computers but they didn't even really use calculators back then.

thinknof the machines that made the parts. and someone had to design and make that machine. and someone had to make the machine that made the machine. and over and over
