I think my favorite thing about JUNNA covering this is that the actual drummer from Dragonforce reacted to it and he absolutely loved it. Just had a smile on his face the whole time.
Some background on Junna. With the help and encouragement of her father, she started playing drums in 2011 at age 15. By the next year she was winning drum competitions. The earliest video of her on her RU-vid channel is her winning a 2016 drum competition. In 2012, around her 17th birthday, she became part of an all-girl band called Girls Rock Band Kakumei. In March, 2020 she left that band and became a session drummer. Shortly after she left, the remaining two members found a new drummer and changed the name to Trident. Trident is still active and a very good trio band. There is a Trident video that has Junna on the drums. In the Through the Fire and Flames video, Junna is 24. There is a lot of confusion about her age, mainly because there is a well-known Japanese singer named Junna that is a few years younger.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts From what I understand, she was the leader of the percussion section of her school's Brass Band. She decided she wanted to be as active as possible in the percussion section, which is why she decided to start playing drums.
Aside from all the obvious reasons to love Junna, from her talents to her showmanship and everything in between, is her perfect utilization of cymbals and not even an ounce of overplaying them. Which is vital in a song such as this one, imo. Great reaction!!
JUNNA actually plays that crazy style in her live performances. Just how she feels the music. The DragonForce drummer said this is the best cover he's seen of this song. He had a grin like a proud father the whole time he was reacting to it.
This is one of the Best youtube videos i hever had seen,With your unsure laugh, and you don't understand how such a young girl can play like that at such a high tempo for so long and hard hitting, and look at here smal feet and hands, and when you said this it's freaking amazing, that is so good :)
Yeah!!! Thanx Tony!!! Alwways having fun watching your reacctions! It was so interesting to listen to a professional like you, and realized I wasn't wrong about her! The drummer needs passion, accuracy, and especially HAPPINESS, like AKANE from BAND-MAID!! Cheers from Tokyo!!!🤘😁
Thanks Tony that was fantastic. I had seen Junna pop up in my feed but never watched her until now. I can’t wait until we see her as part of an amazing band, because how could she not with skills like that right?
She was the original drummer with GRBK (Girls Rock Band Kakumei). They still have some videos up on YT, you may find them under their new name, Trident, though they took that name after she left in 2020.
The bit where Junna has a drink in the PiP is a nod to the hold-my-beer moment in the original Dragon Force MV. I’m still waiting for a reactor who understands the reference.
I believe Junna is actually powered by a nuclear reactor! She is too awesome and I love watching her play. My face always hurts after watching her from the non stop smiling. She has a ridiculous amount of talent and I love the way she expresses herself while playing. I hope you react to more of her videos (like every single one, lol).
I think BabyMetal just found their secret 4th member lol. Actually I do believe JUNNA covered DokiDoki Morning in full Battle Armor lol. So the idea is not so crazy as she would be brilliant. JUNNA is a fireball of positive energy with the skills to back it up. Rock on!! 🔥🥁🔥🤘
Hello from Whidbey Island! Its really cool to watch the video of the actual Dragonforce drummer watching this and he totally loved her energy and said its probably his favorite cover.
Hey, Tony. Great reaction! Love your knowledge and never apologize for stopping or rewinding. It’s why I watch. Anyway…you need to react to “Drone Corpse Aviator “ by Archspire. I’m an older guy, and their drummer does something called gravity blasts which is basically a one handed drum roll on crack. It was something new for me. Really entertaining video..like an old Troma horror flick. Love the channel man!
Waiting in excitement for more Lovebites! Swan song or Set the world on fire, live versions for both :D -Love the energi of Junna, never fails to raise my mood!
Really enjoyed your reaction. I've been a fan of Junna for a while, in this vid she is 24 years old, but started playing at 15, and was considered a prodigy when she started winning competitions at 16. Now she's a session drummer as far as I know, and very much in demand, although she used to be in a Japanese Baby Metal band, that went on to become Trident, after she left. It's a lot of fun watching people who really know how to play the drums, and who really understand how good she is. If the Energizer Bunny and a Powder Puff Girl ever had a daughter who learned to play the drums incredibly well, it would be Junna. For me it's not just the technical precision with which she is playing, she is tight on time all the way through, but the joy which she expresses whilst playing something that any drummer will tell you is not easy, but from a cardio and a technical point of view :)
@@DrumRollTonyReacts Check out her channel :) She does a really good cover of DragonForce's Ashes of the Dawn, and Judas Priest's Killer. Well worth a watch. Thanks for replying.
I use to drum for 15 years. I haven't played for over 10. I was recently asked to help play a few songs for a band. After 3 songs, I was huffin and puffin. Seeing Juna play this song made me do a lot of reflection. lol. I ran a 50 yard dash. She ran a 100 mile dash. lol.
To view recording sessions there is a fee and about 15 seated on a viewing box. She definitely has the power and endurance, every time I watch I cry with the sheer skill & performance. Peace Love and Light
Great reaction Tony. At least when you pause a video & make intelligent comments, you have the good grace to rewind it a few seconds to keep the flow going. So many reactors neglect that part of reacting. One thing that really gets me is the 'heel/toe' operation of the hi hats with her left foot, while working the kick pedal. I think you will also really like her cover of Judas Priest's 'Painkiller' too. There's even a bit of live on stage footage in that one as well. Cheers.
Great reaction. I've seen tons of reactions to this and other covers of hers. I've seen some people in the comments criticizing her for hamming it up too much. I personally dig it. She played it perfectly, but I'd much rather someone make a couple mistakes from hamming it up and enjoying themselves than playing perfectly and looking like a robot. If you do check out some Babymetal like others have mentioned, it would be cool to watch her cover of Doki Doki Morning along with the MV also. Her cover is a shortened version, but its worth watching for her left foot technique.
Hi Tony, just discovered your channel and quite enjoyed this reaction. You really seem to know your stuff, and I appreciate that you recognize the importance of _performance_ in addition to just technical skill. Taking that into consideration, you might enjoy another band that Junna has covered: Babymetal. They're another Japanese band - in fact, the one that really paved the way for the recent proliferation of female-fronted rock and metal bands in Japan (e.g. Nemophila, Band-Maid, Lovebites, etc.) - and they're famous for incredible live performances with great crowd interaction moments and virtuosic playing from their backing band. If that's piqued your interest, I would suggest checking out their song Catch Me If You Can live at Budokan Black Night. I look forward to seeing what you make of it! P.S. As someone who was on the drumline in school and very much into it, the sound of the snares in your intro was music to my ears!
Link to a good upload since there are a lot of poorly-made compilation videos for this song floating around: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YiAJeKgufMk.html
@@silly_programme5061 good link, with Kami Band intro. Tony, be sure to check the dance/choreography, it's a song about taunting the devil during hide & seek / tag 😈🤘🎸💃😎
Been a fan of JUNNA's since her days with Girls Rock Band Kakumei. You should check some of their stuff out. After she left the band and they changed their name to Trident, they have continued to be great. My favorite band after, of course, Band-Maid.
Hi Tony I guess that sweet drum fill with the camera angle you are looking for is at 8:26 you can play it in slow motion with the option where you adjust the video quality but if on PC should be the gear icon in your screen. because it's my favorite drum fill too JUNNA is my favorite drummer.
You MUST check out "Tina S" doing this same song on an electric guitar. Equally as mind blowing just on a different instrument. Junna is just absolutely amazing!!! I have no idea where these young people get so much endless energy. Good for them!!!
Junna was formerly the drummer for GRBK (Girls Rock Band Kakumei). Here is a clip: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9k9txMouU34.html After she left in 2020, they found another insane drummer and rebranded as Trident. Some of the old GRBK stuff can be found by searching Kakumei or Trident.
The best way to describe Junna is to say she is a pile of DYNAMITE ... I would suggest you to try to compile Junna performing this song together with Tina S doing guitar ... Man what a combination that would be
What a little bundle of energy, huh? The videos for Junna just never get boring. :) Another song that also demands a lot from the drummer is undoubtedly 'Kurenai' by X Japan, which coincidentally was covered by a band you only have one video of on your channel so far. :) We're talking about Nemophila with their drummer Tamu Murata, who actually also covered this song already quite a few years before her time with Nemophila. I'll just put the video IDs of the videos here in case you're interested: 1: Bd3Ss30FZjg (full band cover by Nemophila which I recommend first, not only because I like Nemophila, but I think it's maybe the best cover of this song in general) 2: qyRzBO_MEm4 (full band cover but as drumcam version, which Tamu uploaded on her own channel back in 2016. Pretty good if you want more detailed footage of her playing) ___________________ 「 _"完璧なんてありえない" / Perfection? No one gets there._ 」 --- from *BAND-MAID* 'Warning' 🕊
I adore this drum cover by Junna and have sent it to my drummer friends since I first watched it. Another one you would like Tony is the Unlucky Morpheus ( feat.FUMIYA )-「Unending Sorceress 」Drum Playthrough ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5Ii57wXS2vc.html Fumiya is a beast.
This was great you should check out her cover Ruma Rinu Kun its amazing, plus there's only maybe 3 reactions to that one when there should be tons its so good lol
Junna, Akane (Band-Maid), Haruna (Lovebites) , Tamu (Nemophila) - heck even Yoyoka Soma. I am not sure what they put in the water there in Japan but yes, yes to all of it
Wow, never seen this rocker chick. Nice. Anybody else interested in seeing DRTony reacting to the drum playthrough of Slaughter to Prevails Demolisher?
Your analysis and reaction to the new video “【 JUNNA 】Lux Æterna / Metallica - Drum cover - “ of drummer "JUNNA" is appreciated. I think you will laugh along with the surprise again.😂
Junna is a force of nature. She was involved in the project Girl Rock Band Kakumei, actually the band is named Trident. I would dare to say that the weight of a drummer of this caliber conditions a band too much. In my opinion Trident probably sounds better now that it's free of this influence. There are times when stratospheric musicians end up weighing too much in group dynamics
Nice, Junna does a killer Painkiller (Judas Priest), just saying. Then there's Senri Kawaguchi & Sarah Thawer Drum-Off 'Real Life', happy faces pounding out a tune with a story. I am quoting a comment from that Drumeo page : "Abbey 1014 2 years ago (edited) This song "Real Life" has the story behind, Senri disclosed. When the song was written for her second solo album, Senri was at the age of 17ish, the song was originally for twin-drum then Senri asked Ricky Lawson of LA to play together, he was very nice and open to the young Japanese drummer, accepted the collaboration and was preparing the recording in LA side. However the tragedy happened,he passed away suddenly in Dec 2013. Then Senri changed the original title to "R"eal "L"ife " for the memory and respect to "R"icky "L"awson. (From Senri's comment from Zildjian's facebook live stream)" I have a couple of Yellowjacket albums haven't heard 4forever.
It was when the Dragonforce drummer reacted to it Reaction Video - DragonForce Drummer Reacts to Insane Japanese Girl Drum Cover ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2M2Hv5GuSn4.html
She made a short Instagram version of Babymetal Doki Doki morning. First time a saw her special technique with her left foot and later I saw the drummer Dainashi doing the same thing,,,
Junna is not only good - she is a maniac behind the drums. Love her. But here is the ultimate drum version of "Through The Fire And Flame". And even Junna is good, this version is from an other level: ru-vid.comh4eFCGiuwDk
Okay, I've been playing drums for over 50 years. After seeing Junna play I ask myself "WTF....I don't have half that stamina or chops that she does.....why do I continue?"
Junna startet with 14 Years , but Yoyoka startet with 4 ... , another japanese Drummer , she likes older stuff like good Times , Bad Times/ Led Zeppelin , here with 8 years ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-91pz1E8pAOY.html , same with 12 + some other Musicians ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0b5hdiOjupo.html Junna plays fast , ist a Baby Metal Fan , Yoyoka ist more a rock Type , she made over 100 covers already , here another one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tkw57uGnSrs.html Rage against the Machine / Bulls on Parade
Yoyoka is 12 now and already in the top 500 drummers of all time rankings, definitely worth checking out…her cover of Deep Purple’s Burn being reacted to by their drummer Ian Paice is a good option to start with.
