Ted Nugent and Krocous. 17 back in '81. Krocous was amazing! Nugent sucked! Krocous put on a great drum duo... Couldn't tell when one song started and the next ended with Nugent...also, absolutely no energy. I left halfway through Ted Nugent....they just SUCKED!

Jimmy Page went backstage after seeing Band-Maid perform, to ask Akane, the drummer, for a selfie. And not just because he'd seen how she is the happiest drummer ever but because he was very impressed with her playing. The bass player is MISA (always in capitals, often said 3 times as in MISA, MISA, MISA!).

What I like about this solo, and all the solos in Band-Maid songs, is that none of them are just about showing off. They are all structured to fit the song, and enhance the song, rather that just being "look at how fast I can play!" type solos.

My first show was Little Richard when I was 11 years old in 1957. It was at the National Guard Armory in Yakima, Washington. The place was no bigger than a basketball court. A stage riser was at one end. Richard ended the show barechested, standing on the grand piano. He performed all the music from both his albums at that time. His band was awesome. I was a huge fan. What a way to start my musical journey.

Freedom will always have a special place in my heart because it's what got me into Band-Maid personally, I saw this exact live recording and was instantly sold! It's a very straightforward and "simple" song for them, especially compared to a lot of their newer stuff, but it's one of the band's favorites to play at live gigs because it's just so much fun to play and the crowd always has a fantastic time with it. My suggestion for your next song to check out is Blooming -- I think you'd really appreciate all the layers going on there! Akane's drums are absolutely filthy from start to finish. And the live video that has Manners and BLACK HOLE is a real treat when you get to it, it's two songs from their latest album and really shows two completely different extremes of what they're capable of these days!

My first concert with my friends was The Police, The Fixx, Oingo Boingo and The Thompson Twins in '83. INXS was supposed to be there, too, but didn't make it for some reason. I saw Primus quite a few times back in mid 80s to early 90s. True story. My friends cousin was the promoter for a band that opened for Primus around '90. I got lucky and was introduced to them and got to drink beer with them on their bus before the show. They didn't have a show the next night so they asked us ( about 10-12 of us ) where we were going to drink later that night. We said we were going to this little, hole in the wall, bar that we went to frequently, and they ended up joining us. We got there about midnight. The owner closed at 2am but let us stay and drink until the sun came up. People were singing karaoke ( owner stood on the bar and sang "Tiny Bubbles"), playing pool and having a great time. Primus paid for everything, got in their bus, and drove away.

Hey Tony, great reaction. Rewind Band-Maid as much as you like. Q1- Kansas opened for Queen 1974 Tower Theatre near Philly (where Bowie recorded his live album) I was 17. All members are featured players in Band-Maid. You will not find a more unselfish band. Not a thread of ego to be found. MISA, the lead bass phenom is affectionately called the barefoot assassin as she plays in her bare feet and kills in every song. I will suggest to check out the 2fer1 Manners/Black Hole for a groovy bluesy rocker followed by the 220bpm behemoth of melodic chaos. Then ONSET-LIVE for a Rock instrumental they way they should be done. Simply BAND-MAID is Awesome and FUN. Peace. 992

When he spun around during his solo, the backs of his gongs had a flourecent red tiger and a flourecent green dragon on them. Mind = blown! I was probably stoned (what's that funny smell, Dad?). The first band I saw was King Kurt in 1987, when I was 17. They were a small band, but were notorious for their very messy gigs, where fans would turn up with eggs, flour, various butcher's off-cuts, baked beans, and other messy items, and throw them at each other, and the band. They also had on-stage drinking contests, and sometimes 50p stupid haircuts. Male fans could also get in for half price if they wore a dress. They weren't the cleanest sounding (and definitely not looking) band ever, but they had a lot of fun. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AS_LPu85bSk.html You (and most here) probably won't like the music, but you might like the interview at the start, and the sense of chaos.

Dennis DeYoung saw that I was getting bounced around a bit up front ( I was 12 years old)... so, he pointed at me and motioned to come up and sit at the edge of the stage next to his piano. Then he started playing and singing Lady. The next day I emptied my bank account and bought my first electric guitar... and I'm still playing and singing almost 50 years later. I've been listening to rock for over 60 years now and this is one of the best drum solos I've ever heard. There have been a lot of drum solos over the years, but this one is so structured into the composition of the song that it makes it very special. It's not haphazard and out of control, Akane knows exactly what she is going to do next and is enjoying the hell out of it. She has to be the world's happiest drummer and Band Maid is the world's happiest band. After watching this a few times I went looking for clips for comparison and there weren't too many. But strangely enough, some of both Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa's classic solos kind of give me the same feel as Akane's. You do a great reaction Tony, so don't apologize for stopping and going back, as I personally learn something new from your commentary.

Hi Tony. I can see that you are really appreciating the subtleties their music and the individual and different charactors of these ladies. I see that Paul H has given you more details about the band members. For most this song is all about the drum solo but I love the fact that you picked out the bass lines. At this time MISA usually played a Black Cloud, Black Smoker bass which has a really punchy tone but here she has an SG style copy by the same company but which is more mellow, hence a bit low in the mix. In the quiet verse coming out of the drum solo there are some beautiful two note chords that really get me. In reply to your question. I'm 69. I was 11 when my mother took to my first live show which was the Rolling Stones in 1964- the Beatles were too poppy for me. Another great reaction, Tony! You're the first YT reactor I've heard mention that the band synchs up with the drums after Akane's solo. That's something I marveled about immediately, but no one else ever mentioned it. So thank you for noticing that. And it's not only synched beat wise, but they played in tune with her drums. Quick note about that concert: I believe that "Freedom" video and the prior "Domination" clip that you watched were both filmed at the same gig, in February 2020, at Line Cube Shibuya. One was early during the show, the other near the end. MISA uses a different bass in each one, and also appears to have on more lipstick during "Freedom", so that may be what made you think it was a different show. Looking back, I think that also confused me too, the first times I watched that concert footage. As for my first concert, well, I attended many free jazz performances in the park when I was a little kid, so I can't honestly recall the first one. Might've been a baby in the early 1960's. I do remember watching a live blues band perform on a river boat in the Mississippi River in 1966, when I was 5 years old. That might be the first one I can still recall. However, the first rock music show I attended was Queen when I was 14. Blew my mind. Nothing like Queen in concert during the mid-70's. Freddie Mercury instantly became my fave stage performer, and that's never changed.

I also had Tickets for Nirvana in the Logo in March that year (Band Maid played there see Vladmir Chupins videos) but that did come to pass they canceled it and a bit later Cobain was dead.

First concert (rock concert, I assume you mean) Emerson, Lake, & Palmer - 15 yo [edit] I went to see Jethro Tull right around the same time. Now that I've thought about it, I'm not sure which one was first. I have no idea what the first concert >ever< would have been - I would have one of my older siblings' orchestra concerts and I probably would have been under 2 yo.

A comment about the fans: It's pretty common in Japanese music for there to be a kind of call-and-response structure built into the songs. It hearkens back to traditional Japanese music. So, typically, there are parts that are built into the popular or rock songs for the audience to do something. There will be portions where the audience is supposed to shout along with the beat or clap to it. Like, in the beginning of the song, Miku is encouraging the audience to shout on the 1 & 3 of the beat, which they obligingly do, but then they stop that chant when Saiki begins singing. And then after the drum/guitar solo, the music drops down to just Saiki singing with the kick drum holding the beat, Akane is hitting her sticks together above her head to indicate the audience should be clapping to the beat, which they would continue until the music picked up again. If you get into the J-Rock scene, you'll find that there are all sorts of similar things built into songs by a wide variety of bands to encourage a semi-organized audience participation with the song. (On the pop side of things it can rise to an extreme level of coordinated audience participation. Do a youtube search for "wotagei" to see examples of the kind of coordinated things fans come up with to do in the audience while the pop artists are performing.)

Interesting. I now notice much more in classic One OK Rock songs: Kanzan Kanku (sp?) Dreamer ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xGbxsiBZGPI.html&ab_channel=A-SketchMUSICLABEL No Scared ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qKW4lqj2cNU.html The Beginning (CLASSIC example) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hh9yZWeTmVM.html I had the opportunity to see them live in Dallas last year. They played a few tracks from their Renegades album (didn't listen to much of it prior but after hearing live I understand what the album was engineered for a bit more. It's much better onstage, so that was a great learning experience), then they busted a few classics and when the piano came out for this song with the break down intro vocals the fans that knew them from their earlier works about brought the whole place down. The entire song was versed nearly lyric by lyric for the entire duration. The Beginning is absolutely nuts live and I absolutely cherish that experience. Next on my list is definitely Band-Maid as they have that deeper rock sound more than current OOR, but OOR was still brilliant and worth the 8 hour round-trip in a single day with my 9-5 the next morning!

The British band Family in 1968 when I was 14, with Pink Floyd a couple of weeks later, both at the New Marquee Club in Leeds, Yorkshire. Yeah, Kanami was beginning her solo with a reprise of the drum pattern because everything connects in a Band-Maid song, no fragments, no throwaways; everything working to serve the song. I agree with those who have recommended the Manners/Black Whole double. MISA the bass player is to the fore in both, and Kanami wrote Black Hole partly to give Akane a challenge (220 bpm).

Please do, I'm all about that kind of thing! My first concert experience was seeing Megadeth at the Tremont in Charlotte NC (smaller venue that I don't think is operating anymore). Friends Dad's coworker and friend also worked at the venue and got us the tickets. They sounded great live and did not disappoint. My favorite moment was when they played peace sells and the entire crowd singing along to the whole song

Really nice to see you coming back to Band-Maid! The two songs you've reacted to so far are pretty similarly "core Band-Maid", but they branch out into a ton of different styles and feels. My number one recommendation is the 2-for-1 live video of Manners and Black Hole. Manners is a funky groove rock track, while Black Hole is borderline chaotic speed metal, and they're both EXCELLENT.

On the vocal harmonies, Miku in many of their songs, layers her voice with Saiki's in such a way, you cannot even tell she is doing it. However the resulting vocal is so much fuller than just Saiki by herself. Miku actually is a much more trained vocalist, however she doesn't have the same power that Saiki does. And you are hearing MISA playing the Lead Line on her bass, according to my daughter who is a music teacher at a middle and high school outside of Austin. And the second verse delivered by Miku is in her #2 voice. She has at least 4 different tonalities shat she uses in her singing. Including a somewhat low almost growl she uses in a few songs. Some trivia, Miku had messed up the verse in an earlier performance, singing the first verse again, so Kanami at the start of the song came over and mimicked singing the verse with her to tease her, as the second verse came up, she walked over and sat in front of Miku's vocal monitor, and you can see Miku give her the stinkeye. To this day, in performances of this song the other members will gather 'round Miku and stare at as she sings her verse. Akane - The HAPPIEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD!!!!! And did you notice that all the other members took a knee or sat down and pumped their fists to try to pump up the crowd even more for her solo? Kanami, short, sweet with a little bit of showing off for the fans. MISA and Akane, the worlds BEST Rhythm section, BAR NONE. Now you have become truly aware of the "FULL POWER OF BAND MAID" kudos if you get the reference.

Another great reaction. How about a good old school jam / duel between the bass and lead guitar. Look for the live Band Maid concert version of Don’t You Tell Me. It’s a catchy hook filled pop rock. About 2 minutes in a nice guitar riff. MISA answers, guitar changes it up a bit, MISA answers back and forth like that until MISA runs over to study the notes and plays back, they bring the house down with a killer climax. All fun. Pure joy to watch. They don’t play music like that any more.

First, love the focus on the rhythm section. Misa and Akane are the beating heart of the band and perhaps the best rhythm section playing today. Second, there are lots of band with great individual performers. Where Bandmaid succeeds (and so many fail) is in the musical composition which uses all of these incredible talents to the best effect of the song. There is never too much or too little of anything in each song. They are crafted to perfection. I am looking forward to seeing them in NYC this October.

Another fun reaction Tony. You also exude into that energy loop. You know, one common comments I hear about Band Maid Audiences is there are lot of musicians present. Maybe all Japanese fans can keep time, but in America I can tell when there are a lot musicians in the crowd. The hall becomes that metronome and the energy loop comes alive.

Akane (drums) and MISA (bass) are out of the Tokyo School of Music. It was founded to educate/train musicians for the Japanese music industry. They were working session/backing musicians prior to Band Maid. Kanami (lead guitar) is the composer, she sends the basic music out to MISA and Akane with a drum line for Akane to work from. Once the music is done it goes to Muki for the lyrics with Saiki working with Miku. Saiki has never told Miku she could not sing the lyrics only that the lyrics are hard. As to drummers; here's 3 for you to react to: Haruna of Lovebites; Murata Tamu of Nemophila and Marina Bozzio of Aldious. Marina is the daughter of Terry Bozzio! All 3 are all female bands from Japan.

The live video "Onset" is an instrumental, used to give the vocalist a break. The first video I saw of them was "Play" live and that hooked me. Really any song you pick will be good. The first known band I saw live was Martha and the Vandellas playing from the bed of a flatbed semi in my hometown's downtown. They did Dancin' in the Street so it must have been '64 or '65 while I was in High School, age 15-16.

It's cool to see you mention the rhythmic phrases; I think Akane is a very melodic drummer. She supports the guitar and the vocals so well, but then so does MISA on bass. In fact, the whole band support each other. Watch Saiki; she just disappears when it's time for someone else to take the spotlight. She's not dramatic about it, she just vanishes. A few others have mentioned the "Manners / Black Hole" double video (it's from a live stream they did about a year ago), and that's a good one. There was a very good version of "Alone" (their first band-written song) on a different live stream from about 18 months ago with a very cool bass intro, but I doubt you can use it without getting blocked. The official music video is good, though.

Even though I haven't been to a concert as yet but my first concert will be in October with Band Maid being my first and honestly I couldn't be happier with Band Maid being my first concert as they tour the US and they're on my bucket list of bands I want to see at least once in my life live. Somethings I love about Band Maid is at one point or another everyone gets their moment in the spotlight, their chemistry and their love for their craft. It's been a little over two years since I've discovered them and I couldn't be happier. My only regret is I didn't discover them sooner. As for recommendations if you'd like to keep descending the rabbithole with female Japanese bands I'd like to recommend Nemophila, Lovebites and someone I'd like to see have more exposure is Li-sa-X and her band ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-19VQ9tkWksQ.html Nemophila and their live performance of their song Oiran ,Nemophila is band that has rocked themselves into my heart with their energy and their stage presence. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-99zsH6iG_6c.html Lovebites with their live performance of their song Set The World on Fire. Another metal band that's phenomenal on stage. I could say more but I'll let music from Nemophila and Lovebites speak for itself ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PzsqmnEa89c.html And lastly Li-sa-X and her band . A phenomenal young guitarist who started playing while she was younger and at 17 she can play with the best of them. She teamed up with Hazuki the guitarist of Nemophila and the phenomenal vocalist Rina. As a newer channel I wish you the best with your channel and its growing community

We used to go on family vacations in our van. An Evening With John Denver: Live in LA was one of our favorite 8-Track tapes to listen to while riding down the road. After the show we found an arcade in a remote part of the hotel. While there, John Denver walked by. We were able to meet him. One of the highlights of my life. New Sub last night.
