The truly CRAZY thing about Akane's drumming...she is loose (incoming drum geeking). Instead of gripping the sticks hard at the bottom and using forearm action, she's choking up at the balance point and floating the sticks between her thumb and first two fingers (notice how her pinky and ring fingers barely touch the sticks), flicking her wrists to get that momentum. That's why she constantly looks like her sticks are about to fly away! YET, she is faster on her fills than most drummers I've seen, to the point that I have no idea how she manages to keep such tight control. Frikin Amazing!!
This is one song you expect to see in their setlist whenever they perform. This is their favorite song they like to perform live and yes I believe their friendship is real. Seen videos of them joking having fun they celebrates each other’s birthday with a cake and fan cams showing them having fun with the crowd and each other. You should check out *Before Yesterday* this is the first trip to the united states (Seattle) where it shows them having a good time. _(Girls Just Want to Have Fun)_
oh you've already looked it up. btw a reincarnation of john bonham thing is highly likely a fanmade fiction/exaggeration. there is no interview or record that back up the rumor. hyped up B-M fans have made a lot of such stuff without ill intentions. take it into account when you read our comments.
Freedom is a lighter song that is one of the band's favorites. They've inserted various extra intros and bridges into it over the years, including one where Saiki sang the bridge while standing in the crowd and Miku had to sing the entire final verse. Since they use it as a fun fan-engagement song, it gets less lights and pyro stuff, but a lot more of the band moving around the stage screwing with each other, and hyping up the crowd.
I love this performance. I feel we're very lucky that Band-Maid not only captured and released this concert on blu-ray/dvd just before the shit really hit the fan, but also have done a couple of live streams since. Same for Lovebites with their Five of a Kind release. In fact, whilst practically all of the Western bands that I like have remained silent during these incredibly difficult times, all the Japanese bands I like have been releasing new material and/or performing live streams: B-M, Lovebites, Mary's Blood, Nemophila, Aldious, exist†trace, Gachapin, Unlucky Morpheus, BRATS, just to name a few. They've really helped me get through a truly horrible year.
For those wondering about MISA's bass, it's another Black Cloud bass. It was a custom base made for her, from their Private Reserve line, hence the PR on the headstock. It's a 5-string with an SG body and P-bass style split pickups. She's now moved on to a different bass, a custom Black Smoker Beta-J5. Black Smoker is a sub brand under Black Cloud and she's now signed with them officially and shows up on their artists page. For those wondering if you get the Triad Master Beta-J5, so the top of the line version of the bass, it'll be what she's running. It's about 418,000 yen, or $3,800. Her's is white and heavily reliced (aged). It's a Fender Jazz bass style bass, body and pickups are identical in shape and placement. This is not surprising seeing as Black Cloud has done a lot of contract work for Fender's Japan branch.
I just wanted to say that your reaction videos to band-maid are an absolute blast to watch whenever I get feeling low I know that I can just pull up one of your band-maid reactions and get back into the swing of things!!
Glad to see it man. I think this was def requested because you wanted more Akane hahah. She had her moment to shine big time here. Top 3 next BandMaid for you that I think you'll love: 1) Play (live) 2) RINNE ("Reincarnation") -- THE MV NOT THE LIVE VID 3) Real Existence (live)
For clarification on RINNE/Reincarnation -- the one live vid on YT is crappy audio/mixing quality (it's not from a normal show that they uploaded) and for some reason it's a shortened version of the song, so it doesn't do it justice at all.
Real existence live is awesome. Kanami going nuts headbanging like a boss while playing is orgasmic. Theres a lot of great songs like Puzzle, Moratorium, Take me Higher, The non fiction days, Clang, Turn me on, etc. Its a pitty that most of this videos on youtube have been taken down.
@@DavidMISAMISAMISACook ahh that'll do it. I didn't know much of the context here other than it looked like a TV broadcast if I had to guess. That'll do it. Thanks for the info!
Miku actually went to a vocal school before starting the band. When she got the band together, she realized that she didn't have the rock vocals (power) that she wanted the band to have. After they recruited Saiki to join the band, Akane, the drummer, recommended that since Miku was not going to be the main vocalist, that she should play guitar to give the band a fuller sound. Miku did not play guitar before that. Kanami is her teacher. There are two songs that they have played live (that I am aware of), Time and Rock in Me, where Miku is the only singer, to give Saiki a break. Most people recommended the song Freedom (live) from 2020, since it has the Akane drum solo. My favorite, which is on the 2019 World Domination DVD/BR, has Saiki go into the crowd during the solo, and sing the next verse on the shoulders of fans. It was in a female only section, which were her friends invited by Saiki. After the verse, Miku sings the chorus so Saiki can get back on stage. Unfortunately you cannot view it on YT, as any videos from their released DVD's get taken down. You might catch a FanCam video, but it will be poor quality. If you really dig the band live, I would recommend getting the DVD/BR, as they play special intro/fills between songs, and are different on each tour. They also have different lighting and effects for each tour, which are pretty impressive. There are 3 Live from 2018, 2019, and 2020.

I am pretty sure the lighting is done this way in this song to focus you more on the amount of fun and smiling that is going on during this song that might be lost with a bunch of lasers and stuff going on.
Bass is her new Black Cloud Precision SG Private Reserve (PR) for MISA. Black Cloud is a bit mysterious shop with two man operation. Custom only. They are located near Nagoya Japan.
Misa debuted her black cloud SG on this tour finale date ;) Hopefully its still up somewhere, but you want to hear Saiki as the focus, gotta check her acoustic duet w/Kanami(lead guitar) on Anemone or Puzzle. its like the old school "unplugged"
From a recent inductee to the Band-Maid fandom I would like to get your thoughts on Love, Passion, Matador I really like that song especially the solo work.
Saiki used a Shure KSM8 Dualdyne in 2018 prior to undergoing surgery for vocal cord polyps, but afterwards she switched to a Sennheiser e 935 microphone because she was told it was a better fit for the quality of her voice. But that was a few years back and they may have changed mics for the Tenth Anniversary Tour
I havnt seen comments calling for their song Alone, which was very important for them because thats the song they used to convince their label to let them write their own songs
I would like to believe that you are going to watch another song from Band maid. This group has an immense talent which can vary from very many styles: Rock, hard rock, pop rock, American rock and metal. I suggest you see the following song to see how much it has touched on many styles: Moratorium live, Play live, Dont you tell me live, Rinne (like metal) and Dragon cry. Realy thank for you video.
One of my favorite parts of watching them live is just seeing how happy they are. You can't go wrong with seeing Akane's big goofy smile while ripping an insane solo
So good comments on this song. This song is pretty much their "showcase" song if you will for every performance. They play this song in just about every show and its really just a great moment for the band to have a good time playing with each and performing for the fans, "fan service" if you will but in a Band-Maid style. Now that you've seen this I would recommend tracking down the live version of this song from the 2018 Zepp Tokyo live show. This song always brings tears of joy when I hear it and even more so seeing it live as it just completely exemplifies what this band is all about, having fun, playing music, and just being the most adorable little female badasses in music. The pure joy you see on their faces during this song is intoxicating.
I don't think they've released a video for it yet, but if (hopefully not if, but when!) they ever do, "Flying High" is going to be a really, really good one.
Other than the drum solo of this song, the highlight is their friendship and enjoying the live performance. Everyone looks at each other and smiles. Kanami crouches down and stares at Kobato's solo vocals. Akane breaks her face to make her laugh. Kobato is waving his hand to support the drum solo. Good friendship is a great energy.
I read in RU-vid comments somewhere that Miku once made a "mistake" singing the lyrics of this passage and Kanami is actually pranking her, crouching in front of Miku's lyrics monitor and forcing her to sing it from memory. But since Miku wrote the lyrics, I suppose she can sing whatever she wants.
I have to back-track and say that upon closer examination that there is no monitor where Kanami is crouching. There is a tablet on a stand between Miku's mic stand and audio monitor. I apologize for my part in contributing to this bit of misinformation.
@@garymerrill4244 Kobato said in an interview that she was surprised to see Kanami staring at her vocal part. If you look closely, you can see that Kobato is nervous as she stares at each other in the first half of the part. Perhaps because of that, Kobato misses the pitch a little at the end of the vocal part.
Another great reaction Tank! What I love most about these girls is just how much fun they're having on stage, always smiling, always just straight up enjoying what they're doing, and you can't help but smile with them :)
Aaah, there it is :) As much as I love the drum solo (which I can hear like a melody in my head which is actually something I usually associate with Bonham) - what gets me every time is how they re-enter the song from there with the little powerful bridge before the solo. Mindblowing! As a next song I think Blooming MV is a very good choice because there is a lot going on musically (and it's a great song!) and I have a soft spot for Wonderland from the Feb2020 show. Very different, somewhat softer song but also a lot going on and with Saiki's vocals really shining. Also: how much fun are they having on stage!
MISA MISA MISA! yup not in my top 25 but a fan and Band favourite they have played this song live the MOST at 138 times next is Real Existence at 118. Both are older songs not written by them (Miku did do the lyrics for Freedom tho)
I’ll be honest, I’m just as excited to hear the background song during the talking intro as I am to see the actual reaction....thought it was ETID at first then realized it was the damned things
I’d think they’d be only playing 5k+ arenas from this point forward. I’m guessing a lot of people (ok, older people) like me have discovered them during the pandemic 😷 worldwide via RU-vid. I can see them playing big arenas (15k+)in the big cities of North America. They are fantastic. Their musicality is outstanding, not just their playing but the arrangements, their versatility and expression. I love the choices they make.
As fantastic as they are, I don’t think they’d be headlining A-Market arenas in the states yet. Even as big as they’re gotten, it’s still a very niche market as of now.
MISA!!!! MISA!!!! MISA!!!!!!! Actually Akane!!!! Akane!!!!! Akane!! Release the drumming Beast. As usual I like your comments and notes. It helps educate the new listeners to Band-Maid
Thanks so much, Tank! Never clicked on a Patreon notification so fast! Just the pure musical skill these ladies have is insane. Already have my Band-Maid Playlist setup for when Star Wars Squadrons comes out. Like you said, just pure rock 'n roll that makes you wanna fly like a demon. As for recommendations: "Puzzle" (either the acoustic version with just Kanami and Saiki or the full band version) does a great job showcasing Saiki's vocals; a bit light of instrumental tone though. "Wonderland" is also fantastic for vocals and really shows off Miku's harmonies with Saiki. But with a heavier instrumental tone.
I don't think this song is so good, but for some reason it makes me feel very uplifted when I listen to it live. BAND-MAID is a band with a very good live performance. When I was playing in a small live house, I had a tremendous sense of speed, and when the performance was over, I remember being very tired. Also, at that time, there were many uncles who looked scary, but all of them were good people who helped me when I was in trouble.
These girls are totally bringing that distinct JRock sound. Really great musicians too. Can't help but going back to some good old X-Japan after hearing this!
Another great reaction. This is one of the bands favorite songs to play because they get to have fun and actually try to mess each other up by making faces. With all the other intense songs they play this is just outright fun and you can see it on stage.
Freedom is definitly not Band-Maid's finest (song wise) ... but it's a song both the band and the audiences loves a lot, because they always have a lot of fun performing it on stage, and you can always expect something different, unexpected and fun. It's a simple rocker, aiming to provide fun between most ambitious tunes.
So glad to see you react them again. Nice band!! Yeah.. How about they new song "Blooming"(?). It's so fresh to listen and enjoy they skill in this song 🤘
When I first saw Band-Maid via this video, I thought "hey, that's pretty good." Then, when the drum solo started, I was like "holy shit, I did not expect that!" So awesome!
Yo man! Thanks for another great BAND-MAID video! Check out Play, it's from their Feb 14 2020 show. Also recommend their MV Blooming from their channel it's a damn good song.
I felt same way on first listen, but it's so catchy it's now grown on me (I liked songs like "Dice" and "Real Existence" on first listen). "Blooming" took time, too, but is now a fave. They are masters at crafting catchy music. I may have said this already, but I really dig the high production values of your videos. Few reactors put as much thought or care into their videos-from titles to background, to how you structure the videos into parts, each with a purpose. Entertaining and smartly done. Love the technical insights, too. Cheers.
Thanks! I needed this today! Just for fun, Kanami has a couple of short vids on Young Guitar's YT page. One is her demoing some gorgeous PRS 35th anniversary guitars (the one with the dragon inlay is my fav) and the other is for some Morley wah pedals.
I think I watched all your Band-Maid reaction videos, from the first one all the way to this one because I'm just as impressed as you are. Wow man. Goosebumps on every song and every solo.
I introduced my dad and his wife to Band Maid with Freedom so they could see their skill. They were floored. Idea for your next Band-Maid. Want something a little different? Secret Maiko Lips. Id also recommend The Non Fiction Days or Wonderland (must). Anything you choose you will at least love. Ill add something else.. Trident (Junna is the drummer and is also amazing) is another up and coming all female band. They are similar to Band-Maid.
Hi Tank, it's a good reaction and I saw that you now infected. Yes, INFECTED, this Girls a like a Virus, I saw them 5 or 6 years ago on YT playing on the Street, so year's later I'am love this Girls so much more. I look forward what's comes next. 😎💖🤘

Maybe you can check out Band-Maid's alter-ego 'Band-Maiko'? Notwithstanding pandemics, Band-Maid started doing special 'April Fool's' video surprises for their fans to release on April 1st each yeah. Band-Maiko is where they do a MV dressed in traditional Maiko (Geisha in training) cloths and do a song with traditional instrument sounds added in the mix. (and sung in a local dialect from the town famous for Geishas.) This song, Gion-Cho is one such example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-umSt7oMUMcs.html It's even more special in that it was when Kanami first started making the other girls work a bit harder. Kanami at that time was doing all the arrangements and doing a lot of the 'lead/fill/riff' type playing. In this song, she arranged it so she could lay back more and do mostly rhythm and let the vocals do more of the work, and the bass & drums do most of the fill & riff playing ... some awesome smooth bass playing and some great Taiko drum style playing by MISA and Akane and great vocals & harmony!! Band-Maiko MVs are amazing musical and cinematic treats for their fans ... well worth watching!
Freedom isn’t my favorite band maid song, but the song and this particular performance ALWAYS makes me happy :). I liked your blurb about saiki because for awhile I just took her for granted as being a great vocalist but I found myself caring about the instrument playing. That’s until I saw “wonderland” from the same concert. Please react to that one because while it’s not as heavy, saiki is the Queen!
Love this band so much. It’s been a moment since I really was this into a rock band. They are awesome. Now if I can just get them to play Red Rocks I’ll be there!!
It’s one of their simpler songs but that allows them to enjoy it 110% because they could probably play it with their eyes closed. It’s their favorite song to perform live (maybe cos it’s easy and they can have more fun?).
Same here.... Got a little set of by the softer more mainstream tone of this one, but it has grown on me as i've listened to it. They're so, so great!!
This is their fun song they just cut loose and have fun . A older version of this song saiki got lost in the crowd and miku finished singing saiki's part they always seem to just have a blast during this song. If you want to find something new try a band called brats
Everyday I was checking for this upload 🤣 I agree with you on that statement that you have to hear this song multiple times to love it. That's why I never skip their songs to hear for the more popular ones. I learned to love and appreciate all their music. Great job as always bro. Looking forward to more of your reactions. Also thanks for dropping that fact about Jimmy Page, man is a legend.🤘
'Freedom' not being up there as a favorite is totally normal. Once you have the chance to listen to all their songs, having a favorite becomes subjective. You'll find that a "favorite" Band-Maid song can change from time to time.
Love to see you check out their songs: Bubble, Thrill and brand new live song No God Someone might've already mentioned it, but that was MISA's new signature bass guitar
Great reaction!!! I'm so glad you did this one!! Another song you should definitely see is BAND-MAID / Play (live Feb. 14th, 2020) . Honestly, I would recommend "puzzle" live from one of their concerts, but sadly it has been removed from youtube. Nonetheless, I think that you will very much enjoy "Play"! BTW, cheers from Brazil!!
El puente entre el solo de batería de Akane y el de guitarra de Kanami es maravilloso... The bridge between Akane's drum solo and Kanami's guitar solo is wonderful ... Greetings from Argentina!
There was an interview with Akane and they asked about what she said to Jimmy Page after the complement and she said she would work harder to get even better. (I don't know why the other half of this did not come out first time).
Here is the exact quote. "Mr. Jimmy Page-San offered me many words of encouragement and I promised him l would do my very best to live up to his kind words." That's all Akane ever said about their private meeting.
Time to revisit these women - loads of progress. For a blistering instrumental (dropped Herman Li's jaw) try "From now on" official MV. Or for the ultimate live see "Bandmaid Lopalooza, dice, hate?" all new backline too.
In Japanese, music is written as “音楽”(on-gaku) "音(on)" means sound and "楽(gaku)" means fun. BAND MADE,especially Akane's drumming is the embodiment of 音楽.
