Very emotional, especially when the twisted version of the Lament of the Highborne come in. The place is designed as a sinister Blood Elf palace, and the song really builds the atmosphere as the vocals echos through the halls. It's impossible not to feel the eternal suffering of the blood elves when you hear this, even though I am no fan of those barbie dolls at all.
Countless lives were lost during the Icecrown assault leaded by Kael'thas and Illidan...these are the remants of those who served under the banner of Kael'thas...and the one who leaved them to they're doom I truly believe that The San'layn deserves a place among the playable races!
this comment is heavily mischaracterizing kael'thas, he joined illidan so his people could have access to illidan's mana reserves as the lord of outland and solve their mana addiction crisis, he followed illidan into northrend because otherwise kill'jaeden would've murdered illidan and the blood elves with him if he failed to stop arthas, not to mention, he and his people were there to avenge the destruction of their homeland by arthas. and he even came pretty close to finishing off arthas in that battle. even though many blood elves were killed in that battle, staying back to retrieve their corpses would've only meant he would doom the remaining blood elves to the same fate as the fallen ones as there was no hope of ever winning against the lich king after illidan fell in battle. to say "kael'thas left them to their doom" is straight up falsehood. he sacrificed most of his life, serving his people, and got them through multiple crises even though he was relatively young. time and again he lead his people through hardships and gave his people hope where there was none. he was the shining light of his people and that's why the nickname, "sun king" befits him so well !
I think this music is absolutely perfect for this place. When I'm here, even though I'm a raid leader for my guild, I may contemplate turning vent off, lol. The occasional staccato of the flutes and the fragments of the Lament of the Highborn makes me so happy.
I love the use of the detuned bells at the beginning of this piece, the exact same ones used in Quel'thalas, firmly cementing these guys' Blood Elven origin.
When I got here during an ICC raid I thought I heard Sylvanas singing, but wasn't sure, and didn't hear it after anymore so that's why I am here now, and it is confirmed! Sylvanas is part of the music :D
+ninjabunny Actualy in Legion Lana'thel's daughter will be introduced. She too is Darkfallen and is called Blood Princess Thal'ena, which is pretty much anagram to Lana'thel. She was captured and put in Violet Hold in Dalaran. But in Legion her cell was opened which obviously means she will play role in revamped version of that dungeon where she plans to go out into the world to sate her eternal hunger. If she won't be put down first of course. Maybe by luck Sylvanas will pick her up someday.
For those who ask, yes, some of the Buring Crusade Blood Elf themed music is interwoven into the piece. Blizzard's music guru, who's name eludes me, likes to do this to tie stories together. You can also see this in the login music, which is basically a combination of classic, BC, and Wrath music. The Blood Elf music, including Lament of the Higbourne is to help link the San'layn to their tragic history.
I enjoy how in Wotlk they made music for each section of the raid instead of an overall theme, but every Cata raid I hear the twilight hammer theme repeated constantly.
The Blood Elves/ High Elves that are there were slain by the Lich King and raised into undeath as San'layn, who feed on blood. Blood Queen Lana'thel is their leader. As the comment before me said, that's why it sounds so much like Eversong. :)
I wish Lana'thel would play an even bigger role in Warcraft, i just cant stop thinking about it. I mean she is a flying blood hungry vampire with mutated wings and and a black heart, sooo who doesnt like her?
this music was extracted from the games files by an MPQ extractor. crimson halls are not yet accessible in game but you can view the music that was sent by 3.3
@wkunzelman1 You're technically right. The darkfallen *were* Blood Elves, when they were alive they were the soldiers that went to Northrend with Kael and Illidan. They all got pwned and Arthas rezzed the lot of them and turned them into vampires. Crimson Hall is their HQ in the citadel, and you fight the three Blood Princes (from earlier 5 mans, except Valanar who bit it in a group quest in BT), then Blood Queen Lana'thel.
Actually Uther says that, and he follows it up by saying that the only way to end the cycle is to destroy the Lich King where he was created, the Frozen Throne.
I'm so fickle. I like this...not too terribly excited that it's a revamp of TBC, but really, the music itself is quality. And it really sounds like they got the original chick who sang the original Lament to come back and redo some of this, which is quality on their part. All in all, I have to give this a thumbs up.
@Pyrofreak321 That chime is the "Lament of the Highborne." It's the song Sylvanas sings when you hand her the locket that was a gift from her sister from that one quest in the ghostlands. You can also hear that similar tune in the belf starting area.
JDtheDrunk, he was never under any mind control. When Arthas lost his soul he hungered for power, and Ner'zhul gave it to give it to him. The only control he was under was the part missing a soul
Kael'Thas' blood elves were renegades, they were allied with illidan for a time, then went under the leadership of the fallen titan. The blood elves here are the ones taken by the scourge during the razing of Silvermoon and the creation of the Deadscar.
@Zeldarulah Imagine if they all came back in Cataclysm. Tempest Keep, Magister's Terrace, Naxxanar, Utgarde Keep, Ahn'Kahet, and Icecrown Citadel were all merely setbacks! Did you honestly believe we would trust the future to some blind, half-night elf mongrel, some giant corrupted space goat, or some dead human in some old armor containing some dead orc's spirit? Hahahaha... Oh no, no, they were merely instruments, stepping stones to a much larger plan!
This instance was very cool. Though I now play rift, nothing yet in WoW or Rift has even come close to the awesome atmosphere, bossfights, and music of Karazhan or Icecrown Citedel. This instance was truly greatly architectured, the bossfights were epic, even the trash pulls challenged raiders. I hope Rift can pull something off that comes close to this instance.
Well.. just to give a constructive and intelligent reply: The reason there is blood elf music in this hall, is simply because the Darkfallen - the mobs in this hall - are formerly blood elves that were bested during Arthas' return to Icecrown, when he was assaulted by Illidan and his forces. Blood elves - lament of the highborne - the rest is easy math :)
+Dentarg I Yesterday I tweeted Russell Brower and Derek Duke, the two who composed on the ICC soundtracks and they replied! "It is from a synthesizer plug-in called Absynth".
@rcarass1 Sadly I had always turned the music off... but yes, I got chills when I first noticed the "Lament of the Highborne" in the background. It was just so... appropriate.
ermmm the ones who left kael's side were the renegades...and these blood elves were not taken during the razing of silvermoon, but they are the ones who fell during Illidan's attack on the icecrown glacier
I remember doing Quest line to reach Quel'Delar... Lana'thel's speech was so emocional and sad..I think she would be greater leader of Forsaken than Sylvanas..
@kelthanius well these ones were probebly resurrected from the assault on the sunwell, so Kael'thas didn't really go crazy till much later. At that time they were merely high elves defending their home land.
