The song has been covered by many artists over the years. Angelina created her own arrangement and use the original for a basis. The notes she is writing are supposedly last minutes changes to her arrangement. She was only 9 years 2 months old at time of the recording.

My thoughts on this performance. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. Thank you for featuring Angelina a second time, I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on RU-vid, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Her music is very calming & relaxing to me & I love watching knowledgeable people, like yourself, discover her talent. Now at 17, she has grown into a Superstar vocal artist who looks like a Supermodel & she now towers over most other women with her 6' frame. She actually only wrote one book " Between two Hearts". But that made her the youngest author in Norway. Their is an interview where she explains what her book is about, at nine years old ( Angelina Jordan interview Anne Lindmo) it's subtitled in English, but perhaps it can be converted to Spanish.

Correct..this is indeed her own arrangement..to me this is astonishing as the vocals she delivers at 9 yrs old..as for her intellect..I come from a family stuffed full of academics..none are at Angelina’s level. She is 9yrs and 2mnth old here, her music class after school taught her to break a song down study it then reconstruct it how she wants and only then Perform it , and as you said she's very intelligent and talented so the results are incredible .... AJ doesn't cover songs like you don't cover Mozart or Beethoven she performs her own adaptations of somebody's music and the results are very good, her so called "covers" are actually all Originals !!

Here, at 9 years, 2 months old, her mature musicians call her, "The Boss." She knows exactly what she wants, and gets it. About 6 years old met a girl in the middle East with scarred feet and no shoes. They spoke as Angelinas grandmother taught her Farsi. She ground out she was an orphan. Angelina gave her the shoes off her feet. She promised to remember the girl who said she would pray for Angelina. She keeps that promise by performing with bare feet until every child has shoes.

I really appreciate that you recognize she has her own unique sound rather than many folks that like to say she’s the new (fill in the blank with the artists name). You have barely scratched the surface of her talent. She is often, referred to as the girl with a 1000 voices. She has several originals and she does her own arrangements. She definitely knows what she wants and is quite the perfectionist, she is so humble and polite as she works with the band, orchestras, musicians and back up singers the ensure the outcome is what she wants. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age).
