Music Producers That Hate Using Samples & Loops Be Like (Pt. 2) 

This is dope, I was Roscoe 10 years ago. Sounds like some of you are still Roscoe, I had to start from scratch with Reason essentials, now I'm using Live 12 standard and Maschine MK3. It's not about what you can afford, but are you willing to invest in yourself.

Fr tho I've seen dudes who literally only use loops. Melody loops, drum loops, 808 loops--all loops. All that require is a basic ear for what sounds good and some mixing skills.

If we can be honest and blunt, then .. yes we all sample. Hell, I use Native Instruments Maschine expansions for my percussion which are all sampled one-shots. But the game is now crowded wit dudes who use Unison MIDI chord packs + Drum Monkey AI, sprinkled with royalty free loops, and call they sh-t "a vibe" lmao

My experience with sampling when I first started was super negative. Been doing this a decade and I think there’s perks to sampling and disadvantages. Like if I was to just sample and nothing but sample, my piano/keys skill would not be at the level it is now and I couldn’t improvise to a tune without having that knowledge. About 3 years ago I gave it ago and got super lost in the magic of sampling. I feel like there’s a line you get to when you’ve been producing a long time that you don’t care what you use, you can make it great. I feel like it’s about finding that balance. If you can’t improv keys or punch in midi it may hinder you but being able to add sampling to that world of already being a competent song writer absolutely helps.

I prefer MIDIs. Samples usually have too much compression, reverb, effects, and are rarely offered to us unprocessed with individual instrument files. Throwing away a potentially juicy track because the main sample is too comprised.. is worse than ants crawling up your leg and biting your balls red.

speaking of samples , this year i finally got one of my loops placed on a bigger album this year. i bought a ipad from a pawn shop. i had been in jail , homeless, psychwards, out sleeping outside in a category 2 hurricane lost my dogs and more, butGOD. im grateful to see stuff like this where people can see the work and struggle and decide to support the work and help with the struggles

I take pride in writing the vast majority of my stuff but the more I get into sampling I realize it takes just as much creative energy to flip a sample as writing a chord progressions and melodies. As long as you make your stuff your own I respect it.

I do both, I create from scratch, and I sample, I combine both techniques into the same composition.
