Oh my good lord I did not see that coming. 😂 I must have missed a lot of the show originally, because I’ve been finding quite a few segments I’ve never seen lately - and they’re freaking hilarious. It has to be pretty hard for the crew to keep it together with something like this. I’d be practically convulsing laughing, while trying to hold a camera up.

John C. Reilly has a way of moving a "running gag" forward in a way that's just oblique enough to almost (but not quite) get past you. His character starts out distorting names through various vocal tics (especially variations of "dingus" and "jangus") while leaving them semi-recognizable. Then, and only after four seasons, he has degenerated to the point where he's not even making the most minimal effort to pronounce the guest's name, simply introducing a music-store owner named George Sallustio as "the owner, name of gringus." It's his subtlety and attention to detail that should earn him a lot more success than he's gotten as a lead comedic actor (in movies, anyway).
