Music Teacher Reacts: JINJER - Who Is Gonna Be The One (Live)
So small issue with latency on my mic! I did the best I could to fix it but there are some areas with weird echo.
This was a blast to react to! I went a little crazy with some explanations and excitement over what I was seeing as the song rolled on. The video was waaaay too long so I chopped it out and made it more manageable.
Thank you for supporting this channel and for suggesting this video!

Who will recognize his mother's face Without the protective mask that she wears ? - prophetic lyrics from 2014
@cyberia55
@cyberia55 4 года назад
Tom Shublinski The “protective mask”, in the context of this song, is the lush greenery we see around us. That part of the song is about AGW, how we are destroying the earth. Who will be the one to step up and say enough? Don’t step aside. Fight back with full force. Pick up the weapon of your own choice.
@tomshublinski9054
@tomshublinski9054 4 года назад
Ok, the song also questions who keeps on counting the diseases. Art is telling a different story to different people and can't be pressed into a form.
@cyberia55
@cyberia55 4 года назад
Tom Shublinski I always interpreted that to refer to illness caused by the chemicals and unsavory things we spew into the air and water. “Who’s gonna remember what the sun is?” You can’t see it if the sky is cloudy with smog. “What does the water tase like?” Not so good when it’s fouled. Etc...

Nice reaction/review dude. I got into these guys from watching reaction videos and this is one of my favorite songs cause it just keeps punching you in the face with the riff changes. The tone the guitarist has at the very beginning is nuts just like the bass player's tasting tapping fill after the first verse. And that looks like a Tom and Jerry shirt the drummer's wearing....lol. He's got a really unique setup where his toms are to the side so he can put the cymbals in a more comfortable position. Then, he leads a lot with his left hand too so I'm interested in finding out how he developed as a player.

Captain clock is best listened to as the lyric video, unlike most of their live performances, their live video for that track doesn't have the best mixing, which makes the vocals very "mushy" and hard to make out the lyrics themselves.

I will be 56 soon, and I honestly can't tell you the last time I got so excited about a band. When I discovered them a couple of years ago it reminded me of when I first heard Van Halen, or AC/DC, or Led Zeppelin. Every member is an exceptional musician, and Tatiana is an amazing vocalist.

I’ve never been a big metal fan and I loathed jazz! I’ll be 70 in about 2 months and Jinjer has changed a lot of my preconceived ideas about metal and jazz, already loved reggae and the blues, soul. This band totally blows me away. Each member is essential to their sound!
@j.f.fisher5318
@j.f.fisher5318 4 года назад
What you say about the music providing platforms for Tatiana to perform on is spot on, and one of the things that I find most impressive about how the guys compose their songs. Because the guys do the music without any input from Tati, then hand it off to her to weave lyrics and vocal composition into. So there is an obvious deliberate effort to create a musical composition that gives Tatiana opportunities to leverage her vocal flexibility and lyrical genius. I just find that level of deep creativity that they showcase incredibly impressive, thinking ten moves ahead not just creating music that sounds cool but that will be a platform for Tati to create something brilliant out of. And in that process, I'd like to point out the least widely celebrated Jinjer's role as Roman's ability to come up with such diverse and prolific guitar riffs is critical to make that process work. The lyrics for this are brilliant. Simple, but powerful, with a lot of shades of meaning. As someone who made a 180 degree ideological pivot half a decade ago, the call for personal and social change really hits home - and I love how the soulful reggae at the end brings the theme back and makes the message at the end so much more personal after the powerful demands in the beginning. Incidentally, this song was rebuilt from the ground up to work with a single guitarist after their rhythm guitarist left to do acting. The end was more jazzy or bluesy in the beginning instead of reggae. Also the song was a bit faster paced and not quite as dark and menacing. I've even seen experiments where they sped it up instead of slowing it down, and Tati's vocals are more of a rock-rap.

This song is off of Cloud Factory which was their first full length album released in 2014 and then rereleased by their Label Napalm in 2018. That album has a bunch of excellent songs but Outlander is the one that gets the most reactions. There's a version on a channel called failure.color that used the album recording over live video that shows what the band was like back then. There might be people more knowledgeable than I am that can correct me but I'm pretty sure the whole album is about Pollution/Greed and this song is about asking who is gonna be the one to stand up and help fix the problems in society. The ultimate conclusion is that we all need to choose to be the one ("I'm going to be the one","Don't you just step aside").

@@Blarkysh The discography I found had Inhale, Do Not Breathe listed as an EP. I have no idea what the difference is but that's the reason I put "full length" album. Thank you for the correction. Also, starting off your comment with just the word "wrong" sets a very aggressive tone that is more likely to start an argument than it is to get your message across. In the future it might be better to correct people using less aggressive language.

Stuck in the quarantine bubble and looking for some new music... Check out an amazing female rock band The Warning - they are three sisters from Monterrey Mexico. Daniela (Dany) 20 Guitar/Vocals - Paulina (Pau) 18 Drums/Vocals - Alejandra (Ale) 15 Bass/Vocals The Warning is totally fan-funded through Patreon, RU-vid and crowdfunding platforms like GoFundMe and Kickstarter. They have turned down offers from record labels and talent shows like American Idol because they did not want to lose control of their music, image and wanted to focus on learning. In fact, in one interview with a record label, they were asked if they would rather play to 12 people or 12,000. Paulina (drummer) piped up and said The Warning would rather play in front of 12 if it meant they would keep their integrity and could play the music they want to play, how they want to play... That is the most Rock n Roll quote ever! So now you've been WARNED! I hope you will check out some of their music and see how great they are. Here is a recommended viewing list. I'm glad you mentioned how she sings the middle clean section slightly flat on purpose. I've always thought she sounded slightly flat there, but that it must have been on purpose because it made the vocal melody sound dark, which is just *prefect* given that she's saying "Pick up the weapon, of your own choice...". This is an incredible live track - better than the studio version in *every way*.

Kudos! If adressing to the quiz, I'm not the wize person to relate to. I'm an old metal's fan since late 80th. I've investigated almost every genre (includinng funeral, DSBM, grind, etc.) and there were many of them grately talented enough to win. But they have lost due to stupid trends. And they've split (including those of one man, ironically). Well, the lesson I've learn is to not miss bands "out of the world". Sometimes they're still trying to tell you something unusual.

One thing you didn't comment on, that I haven't seen any other music instructor comment on, happens at 9:36 of your video. Note how her belly/diaphragm roll as she goes into the high. She's using excellent abdominal/diaphragmatic support to give her lungs/vocals the air support needed to hit the notes, proving she's not just growling and screaming, she's PUSHING the notes with her whole body. It gives even more power.

One of the most important thing about Jinjer is that if you pay close attention, you will realize that they never really have solos. They do all shine and have nice little "parts", but it's not that standard 16 bars of guitar solo every song. Instead, it's the whole band doing something amazing. That in turn gives Tati all the space she could ever want to be her amazing self. Great musicians know when NOT to overplay, and they know the power of the band over the individual. It's a lesson Jinjer as a band learned from first losing a guitar player, and then changing the drummer to someone who has truly completed the sound and given them more stength to not just be metal heads.

Not weird at all! I’m a fellow drummer and I love Vlad, even have a signed drum head! But when I discovered them, I had to see them live. I was not disappointed. So tight, sounded like the recorded stuff. Vlad, their drummer is very unique. Not only the fact that he plays open handed, his kit is unusual, but he also plays the guitar. Probably other instruments. I’d recommend “Retrospection”. Vlad wrote the guitar riffs for this song first, then continued to write the rest of the song. He’s super talented beyond the drums, but godly at the drums as well. It’s fascinating.

So you like paragraphs, do you? Well here you go, haha I really like your in-depth analyses as someone who actually has experience in music, I've seen this (and other Jinjer videos) hundreds of times and you are pulling out things I never noticed before, so thanks! Anyway, you wanted to know a little about their discography, so here's a fairly detailed run-down: The band was formed in Horlivka, Ukraine in 2009 By founding members: Maksym Fatullaiev (Vocals) Dmitriy Oksen (Guitar) and Vyacheslav Okhrimenko (Drums) In 2009 this threesome self-released the first ever recordings from the band in an EP called "Objects in the Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear" with this tracklisting: Abbyss Angels (They Will Get Us All) Destroy The Game These are the only four songs with the original male vocalist. And no bass guitar. This EP is not really recognized by the band, they consider it to be more of a demo, from before the band officially formed. About a year after the EP was released Maksym went on a temporary leave of absence (to visit the US I believe) and Tatiana offered to fill in for him so the band could tour. While he was away he decided that he did not want to return to the band and so Tatiana became the permanent vocalist. Around that time Roman joined the band as a second guitarist and took over lead guitar while Dmitriy went to rhythm only. After they finished touring Eugene joined the band to play bass and their drummer quit. They hired a new drummer and went in to the studio to record their first studio album which some consider to be an EP. The band going into the studio had these members: Tatiana Shmailyuk (Vocals) Dmitriy Oksen (Rhythm Guitar) Roman Ibramkhalilov (Lead Guitar) Eugene Abdukhanov (Bass) and Oleksandr Koziychuk (Drums) The album they recorded was titled "Inhale, Don't Breathe" and was released independently in 2012: Until the End Waltz Scissors Exposed as a Liar My Lost Chance Hypocrites and Critics Objects in the Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear Destroy (live) (with the current band roster) Scissors (Live) Waltz (Live) Exposed as a Liar and Scissors are the only two with music videos. It was re-released by The Leaders Records in 2013. Check out this interview ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bt8isOGOQdc.html to hear about where the album name came from. Following this they had another lineup change with their second drummer leaving and being replaced by their third drummer, Yevhen Mantulin. In 2014, with this lineup they recorded and self released their second album, Cloud Factory. Outlander A Plus or A Minus No Hoard of Value Cloud Factory When Two Empires Collide Who is Gonna Be the One? Желаю Значит Получу Bad Water This album focuses on the way human greed and selfishness is leading to the destruction of the environment and humanity. It talks about how the rich and powerful use the common people like resources with no regard for human life, all in order to become more rich and powerful. The name comes from the pollution from the factories of the industrial town they lived in. The song Желаю Значит Получу/I want it; I'll Get it (Zhelayu Znachit Poluchu) is both their only song entirely in their native tongue, Russian, and the only song sung entirely with growled vocals. On this album When Two Empires Collide is the only song with no accompanying official video (music video, lyric video or live video) This album marked the beginning of their international touring. While on tour their drummer, Mantulin, fell out of a window and broke his back. Because of that he was unable to continue with the band, so he had to be replaced. Their fourth drummer was Dmitriy Kim who finished the tour with them. Later on during that tour their rhythm guitarist and only remaining founding member quit without warning leaving them with four members. They never did replace him for various reasons, so from this point on they continued with only four members. In 2016 they went back to the studio to record their third album, King of Everything with these members: Tatiana Shmailyuk (Vocals) Roman Ibramkhalilov (Lead Guitar) Eugene Abdukhanov (Bass) and Dmitriy Kim (Drums) The album had these tracks: Prologue Captain Clock Words of Wisdom Just Another I Speak Astronomy Sit Stay Rollover Under The Dome Dip a Sail Pisces Beggar's Dance This album featured songs that each focused on one thing that rules our lives, things such as time, speech, personal experiences, love, government, religion and money. The first and last songs feature identical lyrics and musical structure. each line of the lyrics comes from one of the other songs on the album. The first song, Prologue is a rock rendition and Beggar's Dance is a jazz rendition. Beggar's Dance is the only (fully) Jazz song they have done. Pisces of course is the first song anybody hears by them, but this is not the live session version, although the differences are extremely subtle. This was their first album released with their current record label, Napalm Records. On this album Prologue, Under the Dome, Dip a Sail and Beggar's Dance are the only songs without official videos. In 2017 their fourth drummer quit and their fifth and final (to date) drummer, Vladislav Ulasevich, joined the band. To date this is the last lineup change the band has experienced and this is the longest they have gone without any changes. The band was so impressed with his skills they decided to do a live session recording of Pisces to feature their new drummer. This is the live session version that you watched. This song was never meant to go viral, the band didn't think it would be a success, they thought it was one of the weakest songs on the album. It turned out to be the perfect reaction video, but that was completely unintentional. If you listen to it really closely you will hear different drumming and different guitar tones compared to the studio version. During the bridge in the studio version they used an acoustic guitar, whereas in the live session they used clean electric. There are also differences in the vocals, in the studio version there are growls layered over the belted part at the end, as well some of the notes she sustains for different lengths of time. In 2018 Napalm convinced them (I believe) to re-release Cloud Factory under them so it could reach a wider audience. In the re-release they included live versions of A Plus or a Minus and Who is Gonna Be the One, which was taken from the video you just watched, featuring their current lineup and a drop A tuning. Everything from Cloud Factory and before was in drop C and everything after was in drop A. In January 2019 they released their EP, Micro: Ape Dreadful moments Teacher, Teacher! Perennial Micro This album has no unifying theme and Micro is the only one without an official video, while Perennial has three (two music videos and a live video). When I look at this album I only see 4 songs, Micro is more like a 'songlet', an instrumental semi-ambient outro to the EP. This is the first record that was actually written for four instruments instead of five and as such it sparked a noticeable shift in direction for the band. Starting with this EP they moved away from metalcore and groove metal and towards prog and technical metal. This is seen with songs like Ape that have a non-repeating structure or Dreadful Moments with wild time signatures and mind-boggling rhythms. In October 2019 They released their newest album, Macro: On the Top Pit of Consciousness Judgement (& Punishment) Retrospection Pausing Death Noah Home Back The Prophecy lainnereP Like Micro, this album has no unifying theme and the last song is a semi-ambient, pseudo-instrumental remix of Perennial, and an outro to the album. Only the first four songs and Noah have official videos so far. Fun fact: the band logo that you see in every video (the gear with the fan-shaped thing inside) is actually an image of a mining drill which was taken directly from the coat of arms of their hometown, Horlivka, which was a mining town. I told myself I wouldn't do this again because I knew how long it would take to write out, but I did it anyway, I hope this info is helpful.

I'd make a guess the guitar is tuned to drop A. I always tune in straight 4ths which raises the high B and E strings to C and F.

I am 61and have pretty much into rock and metal my whole life, there is something special about this band. My first big metal crush was for Doro Pesch of Warlock who saw at Monsters of Rock in 1987 in Germany. Tatiana and Jinjer is now my 2nd metal crush,, I love female fronted metal bands.

When I was a teenager, my friends and I would analyze songs while we listened. Nobody seems to do that much these days, and I miss it. Really appreciate what you notice in songs, reminds me of being young! Just discovered Jinjer a few months ago, they are one of the most interesting bands ever!
