On 28 Sep 2014 I went to the East Mountain Celebration in Tijeras, NM. To get there from my house, I took Old Route 66. As I was driving along, I thought I heard music coming from my tires. At the time I assumed it was my imagination since I had not seen any signs (they may not have been there yet). On 1 Oct the Musical Road made the news. What I heard was real! Yesterday, I went to the Tijeras Pueblo site. On the way, I recorded the music. It comes from specially made rumble strips when you go 45 mph. The song is "America the Beautiful." There are only a few such musical roads in the world. This one was donated by the National Geographic Channel to be part of a new series on human behavior. Although the eastbound speed limit is 55 mph at the Musical Road site (near mile marker 5 on NM-333), it soon changes to 45 mph as you approach the village of Tijeras. There is a short musical rumble strip immediately east of the main one, but I cannot discern what it plays.
