The power of Nightwish is that nobody (and they are all great musicians) is bigger than the song. They all serve the music.

Marko can be considered as a godfather of Finnish metal. In the early 80's he was one of the first metal singers in Finland.

Sometimes a roadmap really is handy for making sure you see all the sights. Gabriel does a fantastic job on that! And the Army thanks him for his devotion and efforts. If you get on a "scenic side tour", that is OK too.

To be fair Jim, she did say it was going to START a little softer 😁 This is my favorite song so thanks for covering it. BTW Marko is more than pretty good, he's been a lead singer for decades and can make you cry just as fast as Floor. His vocals in 'The Islander' and the Nightwish cover of Pink Floyd's 'High Hopes' will blow you away. It's always nice to see one of my newest brothers enjoying his journey. love watching your jaw-dropping excitement discovering this band like I did. I found them about a year ago and i'm HOOKED since. i'm 50 years old and have been listening to 70s and 80s all my life. but nothing compares to these guys. seriously, nothing!!

They actually got 3 fantastic singers, but I'll let you discover that in time. I see a lot of people recommend The Islander and High Hopes to hear more of Marco, but I'd like to also recommend While Your Lips Are Still Red live at Wembley. It's a beautiful performance and much less reacted to.

"They have two fantastic singers." Ha ha. A lot of people already spilled the beans regarding this, but there's still more to discover someday when you get to their latest album. :P Nightwish has had three main vocalists, Tarja, Anette, and now Floor. If anyone asks which one of them is the best the only safe answer is "Marco." Also if you like cool back-and-forths between Marco and Floor then you're in for some real treats later on. Since you're going through the Wacken set list then there's no need for further recommendations until that's done. While all of the remaining performances are great, for me the biggest one left is Song of Myself. That one has references to a lot of other NW songs in it, so perhaps it should be one of the later ones so you might be able to catch some of them. Only some of these referenced songs were actually played in this concert though. If you want to get a little more gut punched with Song of Myself you might want to get to know about the late Ann Waychoff, who was like a Mother figure for the Nightwish Army. It was one of her favorite songs, and the lyrics hit me only after reading about her medical condition in her eulogies. IMPORTANT INFO TO JIM: . When you get a recommendation from someone, they usually give you the location as well. Now, this is important, since Nightwish ususally makes a somewhat different arrangement/performance on each tour. For instance, there's a noticable difference between The Greatest Show on Earth from Wembley (more intimate setting, Richard Dawkins appears in person, Troy plays e-bow) compared to the same song from Tampere (more awesome, more pyro, "bigger" arrangement, Troy plays Uillean pipes). My recommendation is always Tampere in this case, but save it for a week or three. . Various members have different favourites. Sometimes the difference is huge, sometimes not. Also, the video and sound quality varies a lot between different videos. The links you get from hard-core fanatics like Gabriel and myself are proven good links. Some reactors pick non-favourite links because they don't want to do the same that everyone else does, which is of course a valid choice. I just want you to be aware that there are tangible differences between different versions of the same song. Also, but this you already know: Always go with the live version if its available. . Euh, they have 3 (THREE) fantastic singers, Floor, Marko and Troy (Donockley, multi instrumentalist, singer). You haven't seen him yet but you will if you follow Gabriel's list. On the latest album, he has a song called Harvest. He does the backup singing on the acoustic version of How's The Heart, also from Human:||:Nature, their latest album. But H:||:N is for later on in the journey, so you can hear and feel the evolution they made.

Quick pronounciation guide, members from End of an Era and onwards: . Original three founders first: . Tuomas Holopainen - Easist way to explain is "Two-oh-mas". The "pain" in his last name has a sound more like the "ah" in "last" followed by "y", so "Holo-pah-ynen" maybe? Emppu Vuorinen - Emppu with a pursed "u", so not Emp-you, no, no. "Empooh". The "uo" is tricky, but something like "oo" followed by the "oh" in "four". "Voo-oh-rinen". Emphasis on the Vo-oh part. Tarja Turunen, just use a "y" instead of "j" and Finnish "u" is mostly "o", so "Tarya Tooronen". Emphasis on Too. . Then Jukka Nevalainen joined. Again, "y" instead of "j", so just "Yoocka". Last name is easy, just remember Finnish "ai" is pronounced so you can hear both wovels, somewhat like "why", so "Nevva-lah-y-nen". . (...oh, Odin, why did I start doing this. My Finnish is mostly from playing Volleyball with Finns all my life.... Now all the Finns are going to hate me.) . Marko Hietala is not that hard. Marko (or Marco as he sometimes spells it) is easy. The Hee-ye-tala is also easy. Emphasis on the "Hee-ye". Floor Jansen - sounds just like floor, you know the thing you walk on. J in most European languages sounds like Y, so "Floor Yansen". Simple. Also, she's Dutch, but lives in Sweden (about 90 minutes from me, yay!) Troy Donockley - well, he's British, so you should tell me how to pronounce his name.... Kai Hahto - replaced Jukka. The Kai is easy, it rhymes with "why". Hahto is a bit harder for non-native finns. The middle "h" is supposed to be heard, but not... It's sort of breathy, almost a pause and varies with dialect (or so I've had it explained to me). In Sweden, we usually just compromise by using a soft "ach" which usually drives Finns crazy... There's no way a non-native Finn can manage the proper sound. To make it easy, just go with a soft breathy h, sort of elongating the previous vowel. So "Ha-h-to". . Note to all the Finns: Yes, this is far from perfect, but if you think it sucks, please make your own guide so I can copy it and spread it.

By the time you’ll get to „I want my Tears back“ from Wacken you can see Empuu pranking Floor onstage At about 45 secs you can see Empuu talking to Troy telling him what he is going to do. At about 4:00 you see Empuu go behind Floor and turn down the volume or turn off her in-ear monitor. Then she reaches behind her. The funniest part is at about 4:30 when Empuu crosses the stage again. Floor turns around to watch him so he can’t do it again. Here you see the height difference between Floor’s 6’1” without heels and Empuu’s 5’3”. They laugh at each other. If you than have a look at Ghostriver from Wacken you’ll see Emppu passing Floor with his hands up and waving: See, I am doing nothing ;-) It is do awesome to see, how much fun they have and how relaxed they are in front of 82.000 people.

This is one of Nightwish' biggest European hits from 2002. Marco was the lead singer for his previous band and does sing some lead in Nightwish. This one is more straight forward. They have a few like this one. Most are usually singles from their records. Loved it Jim! Next one. Peace.

Haven’t seen Gabriel’s list, but I’m sure that Ghost River is in there for more Floor snd Marco duet action. Marco’s had some very amazing solo pieces: The Islander or Kiss While Your Lips are still Red with Floor shifting to support him with backing vocals. Nowadays they have 3 amazing singers. The third is also sometimes on the stage in this concert, but he was still 'just' a visiting artist. He's a multi-instrumentalist - plays elbow pipes aka uillean pipes (it has bellows, so no need to huff and puff), and tinwhistle, other pipes (flutes) and an Irixh mandoline ... I likely forgot something, Throw him with an instrument: he'll play it - goes the fanbase idiom.

Marko actually sings lead on two of their softer, gentler songs...The Islander (live at Tampere) and While Your Lips Are Still Red (live at Wembley)...and his voice will surprise you again on both of those.

A little FYI=. Marco the bass player/singer won the last Masked Singer Finland! 💕 If you want soft and Marco you should do Islander! He also does a fantastic cover of "High Hopes" by Pink Floyd!

Actually Jim they have 3 excellent singers Marco and Floor you have heard, but you have not heard Troy Donocoley, he is multi-instrumentialist who plays flutes, pipe, guitar and sings. Listen to "I want my Tears back" from Wacken and you will hear troy excel

Brother - regarding Marco's vocals - many interesting and awesome songs on RU-vid with him duetting (sic) and solo - but one of the most interesting is he sings the whole of Ghost Love Score in one - maybe a session version but still pretty unbelievable. Keep burrowing and you will find many little surprises along the way (Like Floor in After Forever doing Final Countdown etc). Just enjoy

Kai - drummer (the drummer you're seeing in the Wachen videos is Jukka) Marko - bass and vocals And joining the Nightwish Army - I think attending a concert is one requirement, not sure about what else.

Don't know if anybody has revealed it to you, the key boardist is the composer. Though they do hone them together - he says sometimes change a lot, he gave 1 or 2 examples in interviews.The others say the compositions don't usually change that much. Think the bassist has composed a few songs, and the guitarist at least one, I've heard. The lyrics are also by teh key boardist. But maybe not in thise composed by others.

If you want a more marko heavy vocal song, do ghost river at wacken. If you want marko lead, to the Islander live at Tampere.

Marko could be lead vocals for most bands and he has done so on a couple occasions. If you start checking out the Nightwish family tree one of these days, you might want to try 'Tides' from Marko's old band Tarot. And he also had a solo album out this year called Pyre of the Black Heart, which is awesome. The Voice of My Father would be a good one to try first from that. 🤘

Her singing style makes this song so hard, so sometimes she gets a bit winded by the end of the song, but in this one she lasts almost whole song This was made for Tarja's singing technique which Tuomas has changed for Floor, while I personally still think it still sounds better with Tarja, the way Floor belts it is a lot lot harder breath-wise

Wacken 2013 is a fantastic starting point but once you get a bit further down the rabbit hole you will find out that Nightwish don't have 2 vocalists, they have 3. (You haven't met Troy yet). Keep listening to Marko sing - he will keep impressing you. :) Have fun!
