Voctave is another amazing group. Their Disney Princess Medley really showcases the ladies individually. One of the males, E.J. Cardona sang with Voiceplay on Go The Distance, which is also the song you couldn’t match to the movie Hercules.
There’s a video on RU-vid of them rehearsing before recording this and when Kate Lott (the soprano singing those killer high runs) sings her first one, Kristin and Jeremy’s jaws just drop and for a split second, they forget to keep singing and they eventually break down laughing.
Welcome to the Voctave family. Your reaction was the only one I've seen that talked about the equipment (mics, ILM) and gets five stars. Voctave Disney Princess Melody and Showstoppers next. They feature the ladies (Kate hits an F6) and men respectively (EJ with the belt). BTW, the arrangements are all done by Jamey Ray as mentioned elsewhere.
Love this video. The high notes are being done by Kate Lott. By the way, Jeremy was with a group on the Sing Off the season after PTX won it. Kirstie and Jeremy met when PTX went on the show to do a guest number. They started dating, and even got engaged in around 2015, but they broke it off in 2017. So all the smiles between them were real at the time.
I got to see Kate and a few of the other Voctave members perform with Disney's Voice of Liberty. This is where most of them met, and a very fertile recruiting ground. She is as mind-blowing live as you see here.
Voctave is amazing!! The songs that they cover in that video (in order) are: 1. See the light (Tangled) 2. You'll be in my heart (Tarzan) 3. Go the distance (Hercules) Make sure to check their "Disney Princess Medly", it will blow your mind :)
Great reaction! More on Voctave: featuring the ladies, Disney Princess Medley, others: any of their Christmas music, the Great Movie Medley, Someday, You Will Be Found
Voctave is an amazing group with an incredible amount of experience between all the members. I enjoyed this group for years. They're on a different level, because of the arrangement
2nd to last gentleman on right (with red shirt) is Jamey Ray. He arranges all the songs for Voctave. He is a genius. He has also arranged songs for other groups. He was born with a disability but that did not deter him from following his heart for the love of music. Everyone else has performed at Epcot and traveled the world singing. Two members have performed in barbershop, winning championships on international stages. Tiffany coburn, the taller of the sopranos, has recently signed with a record label (Stowtown I think) Voctave has many hit songs which both inspire and awe listeners. You won’t be disappointed with whichever songs you listen to.
The last song was from Hercules. I have this theory that Kirstie made friends with them (they sometimes do background on PTX, Last December on last xmas album) and besides her Broadway experience that helped her embrace her strength in her soprano side.
Do a search for "Voctave Disney Medley Rehearsal". It's just a short clip of when they were preparing for this. It's really hilarious when the guest soloists first hear that high soprano's astonishing notes.
Thank you for an informed and fun reaction to Voctave. As I recall, Jeremy and Kirsten were engaged when this video was done. Jeremy was friends with Voctave's founder and arranger, Jamie Ray, and Jeremy arranged this for her as a surprise as she was a huge Disney fan. The engagement was later called off and Jeremy and Kirsten went their separate ways. Many members of Voctave have been part of Voices of Liberty that sing at the American Pavillion in EPCOT at WDW. I was at EPCOT last month and met Kate Lott after watching several performances. She was as kind and patient with this grandmother's questions and comments as she is beautiful and talented. You should listen to You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hansen that Voctave did with a 1,000 voice virtual choir during lockdown. Even if you do not have time to do a reaction video it is well worth your time. Blessings!
The highest soprano voice is that of Kate Lott. Their Christmas songs are awesome, especially O Come, All Ye Faithful and Oh, Holy Night. So glad you have now been introduced to Voctave.
Voctave is amazing!! This is one of my favorites but it is not by far their only stellar performance! Look for their Disney Princess Medley, Great Movie Medley and O Come All Ye Faithful. You will not be disappointed.
Great reaction! We are so used to 5 member a capella groups (PTX, HomeFree, VoicePlay) that the 11 member Voctave sounds SO full! I’d recommend the other 2 they collabed together on: PTX Christmas album “Once Upon a December” from Anastasia and “Show Yourself” from Frozen 2 on Voctave’s Corner of Broadway & Main Street album! Both excellent!
The guy in the black shirt next to the one in purple is Jamie Ray. He is the founder of the group and does all the arranging. All has performed in Voices of Liberty.
Great reaction. Voctave is so amazing. They have a lot of great stuff to react to. I also like how you mentioned the law of first mention. So true! :) You are one of my favorite channels. Keep up the great work!
Nice and honest reaction "There are no second opportunities for first impressions" ;D Voctave is one of my favorites without question... Excellent voice quality, blending and pretty good arrangements. See you in the next one
This was filmed a couple of times because of the camera angles, cuts and spices, and the fact that Kirstin and Jeremy changed positions at least slightly between takes. So the recording was probably made in the same studio just before they let the cameras in (just my guess). This was the vid that put Voctave on the map. Millions came to hear Kirstin and immediately fell for Voctave. Incredible talent!
Voctave is amazing!!! My first listen to them was their Disney Princess Medley. That one features each woman very well. Their cover of The Impossible Dream and their Prince of Egypt Medley are my current favorites from them
Great Reaction! I hope you'll do more Voctave Reactions! They have so many amazing songs! :) Some of my favorites are You will Be Found, Mary Did you Know, Disney Princess Medley, Some Like You and Disney Show Stoppers. They also have a ton of Christmas music that is awesome.
Great reaction. Voctave all are all present or past members of Voices Of Liberty at Orlando's Epcot Center. They have all learned a unique way of rehearsing ,where they can run through a song just a few times then sound the way you just heard them. To show off their range of genres, The Great Movie Medley ( all John Williams composed movie themes) ..their jazz version of Man With the Bag... their pandemic virtual video Of You Will Be Found, with over 900 people from around the world joining and Oh Come All Ye Faithful will give you just a taste. There are some vids of them singing at church services too.
If you want to hear a complete tour de force of choral acappella, listen to Voctave's Prince of Egypt medley off their last album. There's no video (yet) but the audio is on RU-vid. It's so good it's indescribable.
Please react to more Voctave videos. I've seen this performance many times but your analysis made me appreciate them even more. Some video suggestions: The Disney Princess Medley of course, Impossible Dream Live, You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch, Disney Showstoppers, the Great Movie Medley.
Love your reactions and would love to see you react to more of their Christmas or Disney songs. They are amazing and thoroughly enjoyable to listen to.
There's a behind the scenes video where Jeremy breaks up at the sopranos' singing. I suggest listening to Voctave doing Mary, Did You Know, with the song's composer.
I recommend 'Impossible Dream'... they do this song by themselves, and in another video, with the DCI (Drum Corps International) Group Carolina Crown.... fantastic....
Jacob, one of Voctave's latest albums "Goodnight My Someone" (i.e. from "The Music Man") includes a fabulous rendition of the Beatles' "Blackbird". It isn't long but it is certainly beautiful. I really enjoyed your reaction.
Voctave is amazing. Kirsten and Jeremy are so very well suited locally. The background harmonies are insane too. I have always liked Kirsten 's voice in Pentatonix and this really let's her voice show it's versitility. You can check out their version of You Will be Found. It's crazy good.
Welcome to the Voctave "worm hole" as you called it. I'd, like so many below, suggest anything Christmas, anything Disney. Like the other major acapella groups, you can't go wrong. But I think you'll love "The Great Movie Medley." And they have a killer version of the national anthem. Also, wondering if you've reacted to VoicePlay's cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" since I know you've listened to some acapella Simon&Garfunkel covers with other groups?
Hi Jacob, it's me again. I thought you might enjoy a bit of background regarding Voctave. The "Disney Love Medley" was the first recording by Voctave when the ensemble had only 8 members present. This was recorded in late 2015 and released in early 2016. Note: There were a few recordings including "All Is Well" made by this smaller ensemble earlier in 2015 under a different name. In later recordings, Voctave had expanded to 11 members (they added an alto and a bass voice). In 2020, the tenor who did the musical directing, Tony De Rosa, and one of the basses, J. C. Fullerton, left the ensemble. They were replaced by tenor, Drew Ochoa, and bass, Aaron Stratton. Throughout all of these changes, the composer/arranger, Jamey Ray, remained. He also teaches at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. The current ensemble just concluded a concert tour of the U.S. The last tour stop was in Costa Mesa, California on April 4, 2023. In late 2022, Voctave released their latest album called "Goodnight My Someone" which includes the song from "The Music Man" called "Goodnight My Someone". It also include a stunning rendition of Paul McCartney's "Blackbird". Each of the songs on the album are available on RU-vid in audio format.
Rounding out the current "Big 4" of the Acapella World today with Pentatonix, Home Free and VoicePlay. You have finally found THE Greatest Acapella Group on the Planet - the 11-member group - Voctave. Nothing they do is anything short of Fantastic. If you can spot him, Jamie Ray who has only 1 arm [his right] arranges almost everything they perform. BTW Jeremy Michael Lewis is partly responsible for naming Voctave during rehearsal for this studio performance, he suggested "V" for the Roman Numeral "5" + "Octave" for the group's 5-octave range = Voctave, and the suggestion stuck.
Welcome to the world of Voctave, arguably the most underrated acapella group, and their wonderful soprano Kate Lott. Everything they do is equally as good or better than this. Try any of the other Disney medleys and you will be impressed, and wait until you hit their Christmas catalog.
Jamey Ray, who does all the group's arrangements said recently in a live feed that The rendition of Mary Did You Know with Mark Lowry holds the highest views above all their others. Since Mark Lowry was the lyricist of the song, his performance is quite remarkable. I would recommend you react to that one, especially since Christmas is right around the bend.
Welcome to Voctave's world!!! I knew you will love these guys!! Voctave is really on another level! Voctave is an 11 singers acapella group, known for their Disney Medleys and other covers!! The man wearing a red T- shirt, Jamey Ray, is the arranger of all Voctave's work!! Wish someday you'll have an interview with him!! You can check " Disney Showstoppers Medley", " Disney Princess Medley" or " Disney Fly Medley! Also I am sure you will be blown away by " The Prince of Egypt Medley" and " Great Movie Medley", total materpieces !!! Also, I'd really love to see your reaction to SoHyang, the Queen ( female version of Dimash for me)! SoHyang is a South Korean Gospel singer, cancer survivior, who decided to sing only for God and for people comfort! You can check her " You raise me up cover from Immortal Songs"( plz react to this specific version) or " Bridge over troubled water cover"! Can't wait!! All the love from Lebanon🇱🇧🇱🇧!!
Yeah Voctave is a little more subdued than the other acapella groups you mentioned, but there talent is undeniable. I would HIGHLY recommend watching/listening to their Christmas album. EJ Cardona, one of their tenors, is nuts good, and apparently part whale based on his lung capacity/breath control.
When I go to your channel to watch your reaction to PTX, I always checked if you do a reaction to this song. And today i found out you did!! So happy. Love your reaction. Also, please react to Angelina Jordan "Bohemian Rhapsody".
They don't have the creativity of Pentatonix, but they're always entertaining and execute really well. It's definitely a bigger sound with those extra voices.
Amazing video. If I'm correct, this was made when Kirstie and Jeremy were either dating or engaged (don't remember if they were engaged at the time of the vid or if that was after). They broke up a few weeks before the wedding very abruptly. But you can definitely see the chemistry they had at the time in this video
It took me about three views of this to realize that Jeremy keeps glancing over and shaking his head at Kate every time she hits one of those high notes. She is the only soprano that makes me cry every time I hear her. Btw, there is a cover of this by a Filipino group where the lead is better than Kirstie.
I know you did not say anything about it, but the last held note the high soprano hits I believe G6. Not 100% sure of the note and classify, but I didn't want you to miss the appreciation of it since it is so high it gets lost in the mish mosh of the perfectly placed notes.
I was a little surprised to see no one answered your question so I will give it a try. Voctave does read sheet music. One of the best educated groups out there, most have a bachelor's degree in music. The core singers were required to have with a former employer & it seems to have stuck. It's too bad Voctave seems to have dropped off the map.
Jacob, you might enjoy this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rjZpz0EvnV8.html. It's the rehearsal for this showing what happened when Kate Lott does what she does. Jim Hester
Hey man, I usually really like your reactions…. But dude… You cut off Kate’s high notes EVERY… DAMN… TIME… You even went back and cut off the same high note twice. Shame. LOL
