Seems to be common mistake of all large herbivores.

When confronted with a situation, the flight or fight instinct kicks in. Herd mentality is to run first until they can gain support from other Musk Oxen to stand their ground or defend. Same can be said about humans too.

Musk oxen are naturally driven to run when a wolf pack approaches, usually it is better to run than risk injury to save one being killed by wolves, and all it takes is usually one musk oxen to run away for the rest of the herd to follow, when it’s 2 wolves like this, they are less inclined to run though
