NGL Guys as much as I agree w ur choices I'd use MX anywhere 3 for mac and MX keys mini for mac (I've daily'ed these both for the past month and theyre awesome) 3:55 I daily an intel 2019 mba and I find personally that the Dell S2722QC is all I really need as it's my main monitor and it has usb-a and an extra headphone jack (I use airpods 3 anyway) 6:22 Personally as a photographer shooting in CR2 I find that a samsung T7 is my go to drive (It's cheaper and especially in australia it's pretty darn cheap at $229) and best part is it's 1tb

The $85 High-end Hub has a REAL problem. There is only 1 USB-C port (power pass through), but it DOES NOT support data or video. So you still need to plug your Thunderbolt Display into the thunderbolt port right on the Mac. I'm disappointed because the whole reason I bought this thing (and I DID buy it after seeing this review) is because I wanted to get down to using 1 port. My Dell U4320Q currently powers my Mac through USB-C, and I have an HDMI monitor plugged in as well, and all this hub does is lets me plug an HDMI monitor into a USB C port. If you want power pass-through from your monitor, this is NOT the hub you want. Probably go for the OWC Thunderbolt 4 hub.

I think a better mouse recommendation would be the Logitech MX Master 3. You can also combine that with the Logitech MX Keys. Both devices are able to connect to up to 3 devices and you can switch between them with the press of a button.

The MOFT sleeve in stand mode is the opposite of "ergonomic" unless you use a separate keyboard. Looking at that made my carpal tunnel syndrome flare up.

Lol true. I always had an easier time typing with flatter keyboards, but if I used a sloped keyboard without pain, it's usually since my elbows are lower than the keys (resting on an arm rest) which means minimal bend in my wrists

According to their website. So yeah I guess its ergonomic if you just looking at the screen but the typing angle is a bit questionable.

I wish that you would do more of these or create a dedicated channel for accessories. This is such a huge area, especially for the large number of people migrating from Retina MacBook Pros to the Apple Silicon MacBooks and the conversions from Thunderbolt 2 to USB-C. There are a lot of combinations and incompatibilities that are tricky.

About accessories, I really feel magic trackpad is the best accessory for Mac. And, I hope Apple will make their own mechanical keyboard which will be insane. Magic keyboards I have some, come with the iMacs, but I still stick with my Logitech GXXX keyboard, cause the typing experience is far better than Apple. Apple keyboard is too flat for clicking, the only advantage is the touch ID, but it will be replaced by face ID on iMac in upcoming future (not for Mac mini or other non-Apple monitors).

Hands down best accessory to own if you work on the go or travel is a tech pouch. I own the Peak Design tech pouch and it’s the best thing in my backpack. Enough space for dongles, SD cards, MacBook Pro 13” charger, phone charger, portable SSD and HDD and even a portable power bank for my phone

Are there any issues with plugging in two external hard drives into the hub? I've used a hub in the past when I was transferring between two external hard drives. They both disconnected, apparently due to USB power overload, and I lost data I was copying.

After 3 weeks of going thru the specs on every SSD drive for my New i5 iMac and driving myself absolutely nuts comparing everything across the board I finally pulled the trigger on a Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q 2TB USB 3.2 / Thunderbolt 3 External SSD that I’m in the process of setting up after unboxing it last night! We are struggling to get by and have to spend what we do have wisely making sure it’s something that is not only one of the fastest SSDs for the money with the THUNDERBOLT 3 giving an amazing speed that we couldn’t get near with the slower drives that cost way more. With the price and killer specs I knew I had a winner drive and your video made the three weeks of sleepless nights justified. I also picked up a Glyph BlackBox Pro External Hard Drive 7200 RPM, USB-C (3.1,Gen2) (8TB) for $329 as my main storage device while I recycle some old FireWire NAS drives for redundancy and shared network storage. Thanks for the great videos. Your information helped me with choosing what I believe is the best bang for the SSD Buck. Dan New Jersey

To add to your list if anyone wants to buy an empty TB enclosure to use their own blades, based on a Kevin Ross RU-vid test, I've purchased a Fledging TB-only enclosure and an Acasis TB/USB enclosure for my 16" MBP Max. I've put WD Black SN750 1TB and 2TB blades in that I had in my Mac Pro to test. The read and write speeds for the 1TB blade are both 2,700+, but with the 2TB blade the write speeds drop to 1,200+- (the read speeds are still around 2,700). For now I'm using the 1TB enclosure for video editing scratch disk use where I need the fastest write speeds, and the 2TB for the video clips in editing. It's a screamingly fast combination with the MBP Max.

Question: Does that Sabrent drive REALLY work with the M1(X) Macs? Reason I ask is that I bought the Sabrent Rocket + Trebleet enclosure that you recommended many months ago, and I have gotten to the point where I have to get rid of both of those because of random disk ejects. Both Trebleet and Sabrent refuse to take them back, and Trebleet eventually blacklisted the Sabrent Rocket NVMe drive in their enclosure. It seems there are many SSD drives that suffer random disk eject problems on the Mac, and to be honest I don’t trust any review that recommends external storage anymore 😢.

Is there a special trick to experience the fast 2K down/up speed on the Sabrent XTMQ 2TB drive? I reformated it to Mac OS and ran the Blackmagic speed test on my new Macbook Pro 14" M1 Max. I only receive 1400x speeds.

Good video, very helpful. My recommendation for external ssd if you don't need full speed thunderbolt are the sandisk extreme portable ssd. Good price point - especially if on sale - and so far very reliable. They also have a nice rubberized enclosure, which prevents them from getting banged up. I use mine to store my photos library full of 4k 60 video, and they are super fast.

@@stargazer6850 They can get quite warm when writing. Not too bad when reading. I’d say they are pretty reliable, but what I do is back them up to a Seagate traditional 4TB external spinning drive just in case. You can get them super cheap.

Satechi is releasing a usb hub/dongle for the new MacBook Pro this month. It won’t have a wire, or block any of the ports. It has usb-c, usb-a, Ethernet, and headphone jack.

I would love to see an OWC 4M2 with 4x 8TB SSD to have an additional external 32TB SSD to add to the internal 8TB. I just ordered the 8TB, and now all I can think of is this 4M2. I just wish the 8TB NVME would be a little bit cheaper, like half the price :)

Twelve South’s own web page for the BookArc says this: “BookArc is not currently compatible with the new 14-inch & 16-inch MacBook Pro (M1). Updated inserts - and new BookArcs that come with the new inserts - are not expected to be available until Spring 2022 due to current supply-chain issues and pandemic-related manufacturing delays.”

Very much grateful for your video! I’ve used your link to pick up a few of your recommendations for my 14” hopefully being delivered late Jan. Just when I thought I made it through the Spec’ing-out obstacle course, I’m confronted with determining the best option for external storage: QLC vs TLC Flash. There are mixed reviews when comparing both. It is also interesting that the Sabrent Rocket TLC costs $50 more than the QLC version on Amazon. Can anyone provide input?Usage: storing and accessing video games like WoW, STEAM stuff, archiving large statistical data files, archiving music and years of photos.

TLC SSDs are higher endurance and performance compared to QLC SSDs, but are a bit more expensive due to the manufacturing process. If you were to just store files and read them from time to time, QLC was good enough. But playing games off it and, consequently, updating them from time to time, the extra endurance and performance will be noticeable. And, for this use case, make sure you get an SSD with DRAM since it will increase endurance and performance even further.

The Logitech mini keyboard and MX master 3 mouse are much better than the Apple keyboard and especially that Apple mouse. I have two MacBooks for work and one of personal use. The same mouse and keyboard can Bluetooth to all of them and it’s a quick switch to move between them. You can ask Dave content locally on the mouse or keyboard and paste into a totally different computer which is handy. More importantly the mouse is actually ergonomic! You still have gesture controls. And, you can charge the mouse while using it instead of apple putting the charging port on the bottom with the Apple mouse (mine just collects dust now).

Please note. If you don’t have an M1 chip of any kind the Touch ID will not work on the keyboard. Only MacBooks with Apple chips not Intel.

I’ve seen a couple videos recommending the twelve south stand but I don’t understand why no one mentions that it is still not available with the proper insert for the new laptops. I have it from my last 15” and am still just waiting to update it to my new 16” M1 max

Agreed. I watched the video just for the BookArch stand.... I have the newest TwelveSouth stand and 16" MBP MAX, and it does NOT fit at all! TwelveSouth states new stand and stand alone insert upgrade for 21' MBP's will be available late Q1 2022.

MacBook Pro 16" 2021 user here.... I DONT USE ANY DONGLE/HUB! (and Im fine with it) Except for one hub, but this is only mounted on my telescope as a 1 wire solution to the Mac What I miss the most by not using a dongle is the LAN port, sometimes proper Gigabit Ethernet would have been helpful where the WLAN connection is bad. Very very rarely I miss at least a single USB type A port if the cheap USB C to A adapter isn't in reach.

Also.... im "only" using a 20W USB C output power bank (or at least tested, no sense with this huge battery in the 16" model), at moderate load like a 4k (HDR!) movie even then the battery charges with only 20W. But where is the sense in charging a 100Wh notebook with a 30Wh power bank?

I made the purchase 6days ago (macbook 14inch base model).Now i am planing to buy a screen protector and a keyboard protector for the device.What do you suggest? Would i do or keep as it is? Please comment down below as soon as you see. Love from India❤🇮🇳

Be careful with screen and keyboard protectors with the new MBP's. They could impact your screen negatively due to the very tight design. This is what I have been seeing in the groups that I am in. My MBP is due to ship 1st week of Feb so no first-hand experience.

Hey, I'm hesitating between 512GB or 1TB on my base 14“. My use is mostly browsing the web (a MacBook Air would fit me, I just wanted the better display and design) and right now I use about 230GB on my SSD (I have pretty much everything I might need installed) but I plan to keep my Mac for 4-5 years. I just don't want to pay for extra storage that I'll never use but on the other hand it's better for futureproofing 🤔 What would you advise me?

If you think the base 512GB would suit you, that would do just fine. If you ever feel the need for more storage later down the line, external drives are cheap.

@@danielinnj This is a waste of money. They said they only use 230GB, they dont need ten times that. I have a one terabyte model and I still have 918GB free--and I cant think of anything else to get.
