Foxfire collection is a series of books that are great, for many different old time living techniques and ways of living. Most public libraries used to have hem, but they’re still available and I think they’re still being printed.

Some interesting titles there, Josh. A couple I will be on the lookout for when I get some time to myself - crazy busy in the Postal Services right now, as you can imagine. Watching this on a break in the evening shift. A good book I can recommend is called ‘The Year Round Vegetable Gardener’ by Nikki Jabbour. I saw it in a book store few years ago and thought ‘Yeah, right - try that on the East Coast of Canada’. Then I read the synopsis and she lives right here in Nova Scotia! So I bought it. Some good ways to keep the veg coming all year round with some cheap and easy methods. If she can do it here you can do it almost anywhere, I would think. Anyway, gotta get back to sending folks Christmas parcels out - catch you later. 👍🏻

With the proceeds from the Foxfire books, the Foxfire Foundation bought 100 acres in North Georgia and over the years moved 15 to 20 old log cabins to the property. It's the Foxfire Museum. Theres a church, blacksmiths shop, old mill and other historical buildings. It's a once in a lifetime must see. Look it up on RU-vid.

Josh, how is the wood stove doing and would you recommend it? Does the door seal enough to be used inside a small cabin? I found a stove that I really want at tinywoodstoves.com called the Dwarf but its expensive and I have to pay now and wait 2 months and hope they deliver. Makes me a little reserved...I dont like that type of purchasing system. But I do feel like its an outstanding stove. I'm thinking about getting something else that I can buy and receive and install now.
@SteepintheWoods
@SteepintheWoods 3 года назад
Both the grizzly and cub are wonderful stoves, the cub could use a better gasket around the door, but it is not a big deal for us since the house is unfinished, (and harder to heat) for the money the cub is the best buy, (250 with four sections of pipe, and a warming shelf.. not that we use ours) However if money was not an issue I would have gone with the silver fire tent dragon.. there stainless steel, and have a built in oven. It's on our list to do a review on both of ours, but will be a while. We're not doing house videos right now.
@cabinman
@cabinman 3 года назад
@@SteepintheWoods Thanks for the quick review...I had read about the door gasket and that was my main worry too. Probably a manageable thing. If I can get my insulationnin, I could heat with a space heater run by the generator. So many options. Especially since I'm not living there. Yall stay safe and warm.

When my third son was little and if the wind blew across a poison ivy plant, he would break out from it. My mother told me to put a teaspoon of cream of tartar in a cup of water and have him drink it. The mixture helped with him having a shorter time with his episode.

The best thing I have found isn't the kind of thing you can advise people to do but it works very very well, put bleach on it several times a day. It's not holistic.. it's not natural, it's not pleasant, but it does work.. at least for me.

I bought a book that is called "The Encyclopedia of Country Living" by Carla Emery. She has since passed away, but it does keep being updated by her family. A very good book for great down to earth information. Recipes, like how to make your own Baking Powder, to making your own soap. Some of the recipes are even Vegan too. A lot of the recipes are from people like us who are very interested in the whole process and also want to share their experiences too. You all may want to look into one of them too. Merry Christmas.

@@Fat2Fit5k I am extremely allergic to Poison Ivy. My best remedy for preventing it after getting into it is, Buy some "Family Dollar brand T-Gel Shampoo:" wash in it, wash good. My hubby doesn't get it but has been known to pass it on to me, via his hands. He also showers in it, twice when he has been into it and I haven't gotten it from him or being in it in over 3 years. It's base is Coal Tar and I think that is what cleans it off the body and also helps to heal and clean it off. Not sure if that is true, but it is how I think of it. You may want to stock-pile it if you find it works for you too. I have about 20 bottles of it in my cupboards so if we have a SHTF situation I won't have to worry about Poison Ivy for a while. lol Good Luck, Merry Christmas.
