I recommend making your own book... When I learn something useful I put it in a word file ... mine is called useful tidbits... it has how to's, recipes for things like soap, plant treatments, cooking... I have tips like how to protect your plants, make kindlings, fire tips... it has what treats what that I know works like ginger for nausea, pepper mint for upset stomach, vinegar for sunburn pain... all work I have used them ... basically I think ppl should build a book or books and add pics if needed as they learn on the internet read or know themselves... in the end they have a useful library book/books that they can pass on

Oh my gosh! I'm so excited! I'm only 1 minute and 15 seconds in and already the first book I see is my all time favorite homestead book! I treasure the book I have so much. It was my grandfathers and now it's mine. He passed away when I was 11 so there was a lot I never had a chance to learn from him. I've been following your channel for quite some time now and I just want to say thank you for loving that book.

My go to book is "Eating Better For Less" by Ray Wolf. It is from the 70's, but has detailed everything you need to know about food. Chapters on nutrition, budgeting, producing food, how much do you need to raise for your family, what a family of 4 needs to put up for the year, how/when to plant your seeds, how/when you harvest, canning, drying, storage, and recipies for the stored items. I believe it is out of print, but I just picked up a used book in really good condition last year ($5.00)

Those are all excellent choices. Seymour's book is my favorite. Just solidly packed with tons of essential information. Like you said if I had to whittle it down to one book that would be it. I would also recommend Creating The Low-Budget Homestead by Steven Gregersen, for folks like myself who are doing it on a shoestring with very low or no income. The Resilient Farm and Homestead by Ben Falk is an outstanding book. Another exceptional book that I got a lot out of is Sepp Holzer's Permaculture.

Jaime, I'd like to add another book to your list. I own most of the Rodale gardening books as well as those you listed. But I acquired Will Bonsall's Essential Guide to Radical, Self-Reliant Gardening a couple years ago. Will gardens in Western Maine and his aim is to live off the products of his farm, without animals or inputs from off the farm. He has some great ideas that I've never found elsewhere. Another Mainer is Eliot Coleman and his The New Organic Grower and The Winter Harvest Handbook.

I have the first two books! I'd recommend "Strategic Relocation" by Joel M. Skousen and Andrew Skousen. It gives a very detailed breakdown/rating of all the states, covering things like yearly weather, political corruption, homeschooling freedom, gun rights, etc. It even points out potential military targets that may be attacked if we were ever at war in the future. Really good guidance if you're trying to choose a location for your homestead and haven't decided where to move yet.

I borrowed my dads original copy of the first Foxfire book back in middle school in the early 70s. He kept asking for it back, but I kept forgetting. He didn't get it back till he showed up at my house unexpectedly 20 years later (I wasn't expecting him so I left it lay out). And as for the Back to Basics book (my husband calls it the tome), I have worn out two copies so far, and am looking in every used bookstore I find to try to find a replacement.

Is there still time to dig an inground pool ~8^) Too much rain .... tomatoes are splitting, and it's too much bother now to fight off plant diseases ..... looking forward to next spring. When I was younger I used to love to read stuff by Euell Gibbons like "Stalking the Wild Asparagus", and I still remember a chapter in one of his books titled "If I Knew You Were Coming - I Would Have Baked You A Cattail Root". He passed away at the end of 1975 .... some of his work is available on Amazon, and may be still hiding in some libraries. Take care & keep your powder dry Guildbrooksters.

You've had our last, about 7 or 8 "Summer's (& I use the term advisedly)" weather this year then. 2018 has been our best Summer since ....? Guesses anyone? 1976 !!! No word of a lie. 42 years since we had like 3 to 4 straight sunny weeks This year is the first July in 7 years that it hasn't rained every single day. It has been a miracle. Now though? The trees are touching the Tarmac whether it's Michael, Winifred, Tom, Dick or Harry that's causing it I'm just praying I don't lose all the fence panels around my gardens. Lol. P.s. So Sorry you're in the "Soggy's" ☔ hope you dry up in time to finish all your Winter prep. P.p.s? Great video guys as usual. 😍🎃
