I found a bin full of this tool at habitat restore I don't even think they knew what they were for $3 for the chrome one not exactly this one but it did the job, can definitely save yourself some headaches 👌👍🇨🇦🍀💙
I use all sizes of these. They don’t get much work but when you need one it’s priceless. Def the highest quality one I’ve used as well. I’ve used other brands. The tooth is replaceable as well. I also flood the joint a bit carefully. Ur biggest issue will be making sure to drill straight and dont over drill. Check the fitting near the end and you’ll see the last bit of pipe left and get an idea of the time it takes to drill to the hub. If ur a plumber I would highly recommend grabbing these. It’s not just for screw ups guys. These can also help you with an existing plumbing system if changes are required. Well done reed.
Ya I’ve had socket savers for years and definitely a must have tool for the rare occasions you need them. But I’ve actually only recently seen these reed ones , never seen them in my area in all my years . They look so much better then the ones I have . I’m going to order them right now
Also a plumber. I had seen these but never knew the name or where to buy em. You know Ferguson don’t have em. Definitely a game changer when something breaks or is leaking where there are fittings on top of fittings, on top of fittings. Lifesaver is over used but these could be the difference between a 30-60 min job or an all day one. Saying all of that, they are just a solid piece of metal, pretty much. Why tf are they so damn expensive?
Do you have to know when to stop or when it bottoms out, then it’s done and it can’t cut anymore and no more to cut? It perfectly bottoms out when it meets the fitting and it won’t cut the fitting?
I bought a set, and had them on standby. And when the time called to use/need them, they worked out awesome. I got mine from Amazon. They worked great. Love them!!! I say buy a set, and keep it on stand by. You’ll need them when you least expect it.
This tool is perfect for pvc waste line repairs! Ever since I’ve added this tool to my set of tools, I’ve reduced the time I spend on these type of service repair calls in half. Work smarter not harder.
Reeds are the best in the business. I've used the 3" on a tee and saved a customer hundreds of dollars. I've used the 1.5" for some tub drains in tight spots. They're worth the crazy price lol
For anybody thinking about getting this, and questioning the price, don't. Do not bother with the cheap ones thinking you're going to outfox it, buy the good one and that one time you need it you're going to be really glad you had it.
Nice to hear someone give a recommendation on that project because they are very expensive per item and the kits are out-of-this-world $$$$$ Especially as a handyman which means I don't use it everyday !!! But I have seriously thought about purchasing a few the popular sizes !!! Thanks for letting me know that you have been well satisfied with this tool !!!!! ATB 🤠
Buying the cheaper stuff and things breaking, its a great example of showing that being cheap, can also be really expensive! It's worth investing in your tools, cause a craftsman, or a tradesman, is only *as* good as said tools.
Never broke a fitting with the cheaper ones, they're the only ones I've ever seen, I'm definitely going to look into that 1! I had one jump out of a 90° for a closet, grab my jeans, and rip open my knee before though.
Socket these are great tools, but sometimes if a plumber would think ahead instead of jamming the fittings together or using a makeup piece where everything's hub to hub. You wouldn't have to use these as often but nobody can use their brain in this trade anymore
Super-nice! Tip: with LOTS of patience and a heat gun, you *can* separate a glued PVC joint. Get it to just the right temperature and tear the "inner" pipe out with a twisting and pulling motion from pliers. Expect to spend 20 minutes on it.
The tool will have it done in less than 15 seconds!!!! Plumbers don’t have all day to fool around with one fitting, especially in the winter time when they could have a hundred calls a day!!!
Don’t know why you would want to cause damage to other systems of the house. You would only be causing additional headaches for the homeowner!!!! Plus harming your own reputation.
Great job now I have to go buy some more tools after 38 years I don't really want to buy more tools but they do look like they do a nice job I have the other fitting savers doesn't seem to work as straightforward as them
I'll need to get one of those. I didn't know Reed made one. So any time. I need to auger a fitting I don't break the fitting but I can never get them to cut straight. So spend the time and end up cutting the tee out anyway. Sucks.
😂😂😂 you may be breaking the pipe out in pieces, but the glue and shards of the pipe are still in the fitting. If you don’t get all that out down to a smooth surface, you are wasting your time, it will leak !!!!
Awesome tool. But if you don't have them, or can't afford them, just heat the fitting until it softens...it will come right out cleanly. That's all I do anymore.
You could’ve saved the hub by probably another 1/8”. When you do it perfectly, the very end of the pipe just peels off in one tiny piece and you have access to the full depth of the hub!
I lost my cheapo somewhere. Needed it today. What the heck? How did this video pop up? Who cares? Thanks for the heads up! Just ordered on amazon. Next day Prime, baby.
But yes your tool is pretty awesome there is a much cheaper option but you get what you pay for in that very instance for sure The tool I absolutely endorse it's a good one it's still expensive as hell though
